Good News & Bad News...Bad News First

Bad News: Someone just outbid me on Ebay for a pair of Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Short Cut Shorts. Was it one of you? $34...what a deal...

Good News: I went on my first group ride with a WOMEN'S Group this morning!!! I had a blast. Now don't get me wrong. I don't mind drafting behind the guys, but sometimes it is nice to not be surrounded by so much testosterone. It was a nice challenge. I'm surrounded by flat roads on the side of town that I live. This group is based about 30 miles away from me and they are NOT surrounded by flat roads (well, at least by central AZ standards). I was pre-warned about the 9-mile hill. I wasn't too worried about that because I was told it was a long steady climb, nothing too steep. Well, they should've warned me about the 3 other STEEP hills before we would get to the 9-mile hill. You know the kind. The hills that look like vertical walls as you approach them on a bike. I managed to survive and actually enjoy the 50 mile ride, surrounded by new friends on a surprisingly "cool" July day in AZ. I can't wait until I get to ride with the group again. I'm just hoping with a little more training, the hills won't look quite so steep.

Woo hoo! Sounds like you had a great ride with the girls today! It IS nice to ride with the ladies sometimes- they just don't have the "go get 'em killler instinct." They'll actually let people pass them without their ego chasing them down (although today on a ride with DH I spent 2 miles chasing a group of 3 riders just so I could pass them- used it as my speedwork- but I felt like such a guy chasing those three poor ladies down like I was going for a stage win).

    Glad you had fun!!!!

AZSpinner--I'm curious what group you rode with ? Would you mind sharing some additional info ? Where do the rides start ? I have been looking for a group....I live in Scottsdale.

    Thanks

    Bliss,

I rode with the White Mountain Road Club. They are in Scottsdale!! The club is rather large I'm told and their major sponsor is Landis Cycle. The group I rode with met at the Landis Cycle on Scottsdale and Shea. They are having a team meeting this Thursday (8/2) at the Scottsdale shop location at 7pm. The "lecture" will be about biomechanics of cycling and we were encouraged to bring our bikes and trainers, as Terry Roach (kinesiotherapist) will be providing feedback on our form and positioning on the bike. Afterwards, the girls were going to meet with any of us that were interested in racing with the team and to discuss future rides. It was a REALLY friendly group.

If you want more information, feel free to PM me.

    Hope to see you there!
