(well, sort of)
I passionately love, adore, worship my LBS!!! ( www.recycledcycles.com )
My bike guru Paul has an injured shoulder, but he worked on my bike anyway, even though one arm is in a sling. Trek and I will have to drop off a six-pack as soon as I can get there next weekend.
Anyway, he found me a 26t granny ring, which bolts right onto the spider my Cross Check came with. The Shimano Tiagra double front der worked for a triple, but was fussy and sometimes refused to shift during my test ride. Paul went to the der bin (it is RECYCLED Cycles!) and found a gorgeous Campy Veloce triple front der and swapped it out. The front shifter on my CC is pure friction (the rear can be friction or indexed) so there was nothing to change for the triple.
The Grand Total: $19.
While I was there a customer was looking at a Surly CC (as I was wheeling mine by) so I talked him into taking it for a test ride. I was sitting on the bench outside filling up my waterbottle with Clif mix and water when he came back, so I showed him how Paul had just made my CC into a triple. The guy was *this* close to buying it, but thought he needed a different size.

Feel the love!
Now my Cross Check is a 48t-36t-26t, and I was able to ride up Perkins from LFP and only had to get off and walk at the intersection of Perkins and 15th. So cool!
I took city streets to the LBS, and then rode the Burke-Gilman/Perkins/Meridian home. It was 1/2 hour faster to ride the city streets, but the Burke route was much MUCH less stressful!
And my triple made it much more do-able!

I love my triple with ultra low gears. I live in the middle of major hill-age.![]()

And to think I was just at that shop. Me with my Campy Veloce double.
I'm happy for you though! And I will stop talking to myself about how a triple would make my life easier right about now....

Yeah, to get home every time I ride, the last 1/4 mile of my ride home climbs up 200 feet. Always something to look forward to. You'de think it would make me faster but it doesn't seem to....yet.![]()
I'm fairly certain I can say I'm the slowest rider on all of TE who rides over 100 miles per week.![]()
