    Cut 'Em Some Slack...

I nearly hit a kid today while riding to work. Not because I'm a malacious or terribly inattentive person.

I was distracted, thinking about my sister.
I did see the three girls in the crosswalk perpendicular to me.
I did see the car to my right on the cross street, waiting to make a left turn.
I did see the car to my left on the cross street making a right turn.
I saw the two cars coming down the hill towards me.

But I didn't see the kid who stepped into the crosswalk after the car on my left turned right. I saw him as I was partway through my turn.He was right where I wanted to be, meandering on his way to school. A little braking, a little swerving to the left to pass behind him. He says, "Hi Mrs. D." And I smile and say, "Good Morning." But inside I'm p!ssed at myself because I didn't see him and it could have ended badly.

I bet a lot of drivers of cars feel that way when they narrowly miss us. So, I'm going to try to cut 'em some slack instead of assuming they were aiming for me.

I haven't heard from her yet this week. That's why I was thinking about her. Treatments are Mondays and Tuesday. She's had to start using her feeding tube because her mouth is so swollen. Thank goodness for e mail, since she's having a hard time talking again.
