    Slicks?

    Yet another newbie question!

I ride in Miami and Atlanta. My road bike lives in Miami, cause there is a great long ride that I love to do down there, and to attempt to keep up with my boyfriend, who rides everyday, I need my fastest bike there.
I bought a mountain bike for Atlanta, cause I might try some trail riding in the future. For now, I just want to use the bike on the road. Are slicks necessary? I'm not riding with anyone, and it's mostly for fitness (and fun!) so speed isn't an issue. If staying with the nubbies is fine, just more work, then it's even better - more of a workout is fine with me.

    Thanks!

You don't have to have slicks to ride the mtb bike on the road. I did many miles on my mtb bike on the road before I got a road bike a couple months ago. The drawback to the knobbies is the vibration, and I always felt the pavement wore the tires more quickly than the dirt. I have a mountain bike that I use as a commuter which has tires with minimal tread, and that is a good compromise. Those tires are durable, flat-resistant, and can go just about anywhere.

    Hi!

I ride a MTB on paved roads pr paths and while it is more work at first, you do get stronger and then it 's no big deal. It might wear the tires faster, which means buying new tires = more $, but then you could just buy a pair of slicks.

A friend has a pair of mixed tires - slicker in the middle for road, but with knobby edges to help grip off road. She likes this combo.

    Either way, it's funnnnn!
I just love turning the round legs of my Iron Horse!

    Thanks, but...

    Thanks everyone for your help!

However, I ordered a new road bike for here, and it just shipped from the factory, so I'll keep the nubbies on the MTB, and take the road bike out on the road!

    Thanks anyway!
