I ran on the treadmill today. I've never done that before. I was suppose to be doing intervals today and I had fun messing around with how fast I could go. I did 30 seconds of 8mph. Quickly followed by a minute of 5.3 mph.

I ended up with 48 minutes and 4.5 miles.

2.9 miles running in 35 minutes, and then a 5 minute cool down. Total: 3.2miles on the treadmill.

I might have done some hill work (walking fast) if my ipod hadn't died. I'm nothing without my music.

So far today I've walked to the car, in the park, and to the car, and to the house. WHEW, what a workout!

I'm looking forward to testing the muscles later this week with some light jogging

Colby, I think that is totally allowed considering your weekend activities. I'd probably still be laying in coma on my couch.

Yeah for new shoes and YELLOW!!

I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK YELLOW. ARE YOU GOING TO JOIN ME IN POCATELLO FOR THE HALF AUG 30??

I bought new shoes for myself and daughter today and we are going to get up and run at 0530 . We are 9 weeks from our half mary. My longest run has been 8.25 last Friday. I downloaded a whole lot of oldies and some new stuff on the ipod so I am ready. How come it so hard to get the mojo going again?? I have been getting short runs in but have not been in the training mode but I MUST GET IT GOING!

Maybe a little Springsteen, Mellencamp, Mary J and ZZ Top will help??? I'll report tomorrow a let you know.

Nice job on all your runs ladies! You inspire me!

No running for me until later this week. It's a light rest week so I'm only doing 2x 3-mile maintenance runs before going back into Half Marathon training. I may do a 5K race on Thursday, I won't push it too hard though because I have quite a bit of soreness/stiffness in my left glute muscle from the race on Sunday. Hopefully it'll be gone by Thursday.

Our air quality is still crummy so I did another session on the treadmill today.

My daughter and I ran 1 mile warm up and 4 miles at tempo pace and 1 mile cool down for a total of 6 okay miles. The new shoes felt pretty good. I cleaned up and went to a pilates / yoga class which was excellent. I really think I could get into that.

Here's is something that I experienced this morning, a question or thought for the ladies with grown daughters or sons.... I was running at a faster pace than my daughter but would run ahead and than circle around until my daughter (25 years old) would catch up, but I had a moment where I couldn't see her and I knew she should be right behind me. Of course she was there within a minute but I felt this panic as if she was still a small toddler or child and thought she was lost or missing. She is a mature grown beautiful women but at that moment in time she was my little girl. Shouldn't I be over this by now? It will probably always be this way. Once a mother always a mother.

Well, Shirazzie, I guess that means I'd better get my training in gear. After the MS 150 this weekend, I intend to focus on running. I should be able to crank out a half at the end of August (I hope). I'm still working through the mental issues with running on pavement...we might need some pre-half intervention. We will most certainly need some post-half recovery via Zinfandel.

I have a really bad, green mucus head cold right now. But I'm still trying to run in the mornings...just li'l ones. Better than nothin'. Plus it's better than a neti pot!

Only had one hour for the gym today at work. Including getting changed and a shower, that meant just 3 miles on the treadmill (in 31:21). Still, I made the most of it and worked up a GOOD sweat. Certainly better than nothing!

Hello all! I'm going to jump in on this thread...hope you don't mind a party crasher! I've been running for all of 8 weeks, preparing for my first triathlon season. I really don't care for running, but suppose it is a necessary evil I ran about 7 miles last night with my triathlon training group. Totally demoralizing, as I am the slowest person in the (fast-ish) group. Everyone else is a "real" runner and it's the best I can do to hang on.

We did intervals last night, completed the 7 miles in about 1:06:00, good for me, but still way behind the others. I'm going again today for a short 3.5 miles of recovery run (we're supposed to have thunderstorms this afternoon and I'd rather get caught in the rain running than biking). Hopefully today will be better...

    Sorry for the rambling!!!

Did I say I was going to crack the whip? (and then not run for a week and a half)

Anyway, 5.1 miles today. Did I mention I sweat? It wasn't even 80 degrees and sweat was literally pouring off my body. Felt good

Welcome to the group. Don't worry too much about your running, a lot of us TE chix are in exactly the same boat. Hanging on with a group is a great motivator, you'll get faster with time and careful effort. It's hard for me to see people to whom running comes easily... it's always a push for me.

And hey, if you buy enough time on the swim and bike, who cares if you're a couple minutes slower on the run, right?

Thanks! I was a competitive swimmer for over 12 years, so that's pretty much my idea - gain as much time as I can in the swim. I'm still very new to the bike (just started in April), but I LOVE it and I'm already a better cyclist than a runner, lol. I am just not a natural runner - to me, it seems incredibly UNnatural (unless being chased by a pack of dogs or something!)

Thanks for the words of wisdom

Running takes a while until it feels (in a twisted way) good. Now I prefer it.

I got to run 10 minutes today I'm doing a sprint tri tomorrow so I just did about 10-15 minutes each of swimming, running, and cycling. It dawned on me, after circling for ages in the parking lot of our local swim beach, that it's going to be very crowded in the summer.
