    Totally OT: Shoes that fart

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I have a new pair of sporty sneakers. They make farting noises when I walk. They did not fart when I tried them on at the store. They only started farting when I wore them out and became non-returnable. I really like these shoes, but I wish they were as silent as they are non-deadly.

Does anyone have any ideas to keep their shoes from making funny noises?

(This is a serious inquiry... and LisaSH... don't even mention Beano!)

if they're the ones with the air cushion, stop it up with shoe-goo.

my running shoes did that just after i got them too.

once i put my orthotics in them they stopped. no idea why.

probably slippage between the insole and the actual interior of the shoe, then. I'd suggest replacing the insole if that's the case. A lot of wearing would wear the underside smooth, lending it to squeaking and slipping

They're not actually athletic shoes, so don't think orthotics would fit. It's just like air gets pushed out at every step. I tried thicker socks. Didn't work.

there are orthotics that fit in all types of shoes... it'd be between that and air escaping between the body of the shoe and the sole itself if they're separating.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into those. The shoes are cool and comfy and I'd hate to have to get rid of them.

I have the same problem with a $400 pair of Allen Edmonds wingtips. Absolutely infuriating.

It's my foot sliding against the smooth inner sole.

We used to tell our patients with farting custom insoles to put talc in the shoe, between the shoe and the insole. (take the insole out, sprinkle some talc into the shoe, put insole back in)

I don't know if that'd work if the shoe is farting against your socks/shoe interface, but maybe it would help?

Heh, now I'm envisioning little white clouds of talc puffing out with each step.
