I went on a whirlwind tour of family members. In-laws, cousins, parents etc. On new years eve (last night seems a long long time ago) my kids got the stomach bug. Gross details to follow:
Vomiting began precisely at 10pm and continued until 4:30 am. 11 vomits between the 2 of them. 3 loads of laundry by 2 am. Much carpet cleaner and febreeze used. Pink stains still visible on grandma's white carpeting.
As if that wasn't fun enough, I had to wake up at 8:30am to get ready to go to the airport. The little one had to be placed in a wheelchair to get from check in to the gate. Both travelled carrying open plastic bags. Little one vomited on the floor of the airplane as soon as she sat down. This despite having 25 airline barf bags and 2 plastic grocery bags at her disposal. I love crawling around on the floor of the airplane to do clean up.
But thank god we are now home. Whew. Both girls are out cold on the couches. How I'd love to go to sleep too!
Well, Happy New Year everyone. Stay away from the stomach bug! I hope it doesn't catch me.

Wow! That makes my screaming one year old flight back from Hawaii look pleasant.
Hope everyone gets well soon!

Wow, and I thought I had it bad getting strep throat on my ski trip....
Glad things are better now!

Glad you are all home now. May the wee ones feel better soon, may you not get the bug, and I do hope you get some rest.

Oh Doc... I really know what you're talking about.
I have 5 kids within a 7-year time frame, and one of the "milestones" of being a parent was when each child could wake up and get themselves to the bathroom before they threw up in their beds or on the carpet... YAY!!!
One of the absolute blessings of a lesson I learned which has saved noses, carpet and money is baking soda.
I always have a couple of boxes in the pantry, despite only needing it in 1/2 to 1 teaspoon lots when cooking.
Sprinkle liberally on vomit spot on carpet, in quilt, on car upholstery - leave to dry and then vacuum... no smell!!! Brilliant.
Wishing you a vomit-free 2007, sounds like you have had your share for the year.
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".
wow. In 24 hours you did more vomit duty than i did with 2 sons all their childhoods. (Infancy doesn't count)
you deserve a medal!
OMG, I think, I'm you, but with dogs instead of kids!I spent New Year's Eve and Day cleaning up dog vomit from my two dogs - they were both vomiting every hour all day and all night. One dog even made three trips to the vet ($500 later...). Those were the two longest days ever, and as I said to my husband, Happy Effing New Years.
I hope kids and family are all recovered, and that things begin to look up for you this year.
At least with vomiting kids you can have a conversation and try to hit the toilet/bucket. But with dogs![]()
All is well now. Whew. Here's hoping everyone has a healthy year.

But you can banish the dogs to the back yard!
What would make both dogs puke every hour? Did they eat something I should look out for?
Karen
Unfortunately, we live in a condo in the city, so no back yard to banish the dogs to. Thankfully, we have hardwood floors so we were able to roll up our area rugs, which made the clean up much easier!
When Murphy (dog pictured in my avatar) first got sick, the vet thought food poisoning, but we couldn't figure out what he may have eaten that would make him that sick. Then, when Ella starting getting sick, the vet thought it must be something viral. We had been to the dog park the day before, so I think they must have picked something up from another dog.
Regardless, I hope we never have to deal with that again - with kids or dogs!
