Had a day off so I took the bike out this morning. 64 degrees at 7am....perfect! Did my usual route plus some of a route I used to do several months ago. I actually got a little lost, but it was fun and I ended up with 34 miles. I ran out of water at mile 30, but by then I knew I was close to home.
Hoping to do a 100k ride this weekend, so I needed the training!
I tried the Hammer Gel espresso flavor that my Sept Secret Sister sent me, and it was awesome! I have to find some more of that stuff!

Just a short ride into town and back today to do some errands. Wore my feather weight backpack for stashing stuff I had to buy.
As I was locking my bike up on Main St, a woman I used to know years ago walked by, recognized me, and said "You look like a real biker!". Of course I replied "That's because I AM a real biker!" Dontcha just love it?

Quick 36 mile ride this afternoon after work and before I had to pick up SKnot from school.

Flossie goes much faster than the commutermobile. I'm thinking easily 2 or 3 mph faster. First time I've done a regular ride with my computer on Flossie, so I was watching my stats. Fun.

Beautiful fall day with blue skies and comfy temps. I rode on a bike path, and found Salsa! She was starting, I was ending, but we rode along for a way, then stopped to look for salmon in the river.

Saw lots of ducks, woolybear caterpillars, a squished snake, and a big splash that might have been a salmon.

Watched some school kids doing a bike class at the velodrome. (How come my PE classes weren't like that?) There was one girl with looooong braids who was clearly enamoured of the bike-thing. The other kids were participating, and quit as soon as they could; but this girl was listening to the bike and totally into it and rode around the track a few more times after it was time to quit. The coach recognized she was into it, and said something to her about it. Future biker, there.

I drove today because last night's movie ouiting had me all wound up like a ten year old (Little Miss SUnshine is wonderful ) and my innards wouldn't let me out of the house on time, even though I'd decided that no 35 mph winds and forecast showers and "deteriorating conditions" were ging to keep me in. So I rode the .6 miles to the Internet house - it's 42 and spitting. (Ironic, but I had the car idling in the driveway for half an hour, 'cause I haven't driven it in a month and I didn't want to just do a short drive.)

I took off this morning at 59 degrees in shorts and long sleeved microfiber shirt that I bought at REI last year as an under layer for when it's REALLY cold. Figured out very quickly that it will have to get a lot colder before I even think of covering my knees, but the long sleeves felt good.

Rode a new route that had me a tad nervous -- I haven't ridden on those roads before, but it was great. I did have to do a left-turn from a turn lane in a fair bit of traffic and that was new for me, but still, it was all good.

    Yay!

I ended up going 10.4 miles, including a starbux latte and a stop off at the post office. It was great, and I could have gone a lot farther if I'd had more time.

And my suspicions continue to be proven true -- it wasn't the cycling that was kiling me, it was the heat. Now that I can bike when it's cool, I'm loving it.

Debated about riding today because of the threat of rain and the nasty wind. However, I could not stand the thought of not riding during my fall break so I donned my wind pants, a short sleeve jersey and my wind jacket and decided to give it a try. I figured the worse thing that could happen to me would be I might get wet and I knew I would not melt. The wind was quite helpful the first 10 miles or so and I was flying. They clouds broke up and the sun came out and I took my jacket off for I was getting warm. The last 14 miles proved to be tough for I spent most of it fighting the wind. I did have a close encounter with a dog that decided to play chicken with me as I was zooming along at 20 mph. The little fellow (about 40 lbs) ran out in front of me and stopped - I missed him by millimeters. I had a great ride today, my ankles did not hurt, my legs felt strong and I enjoyed my day on the bike. A great way to pass 90 minutes and see 24 miles of beautiful fall colors.

An hour of singletrack at Lake Crabtree State Park after work with friends. Fun! Still have to walk a couple steep, rooted descents (I'm such a wuss) but did pretty good overall -- and no falls! Perfect temperature, around 70 degrees.

Got to ride a little with KnottedYet today

She said it--gorgeous fall day here. After getting those gold/copper streaks put in my hair in the morning, I spent the afternoon riding---39 miles along the river trail. Ran into KN early in the ride, rode together for a bit, yakked for a bit. Her Flossie is quite gorgeous and she was speeding along! After she left, I continued my ride--pooped and slow, for no good reason, but did it anyway. Looked for more spawning salmon but their activity seems to have decreased since last weekend--maybe they're almost done with spawning. YES, ate some gnats, so we know the world is spinning properly, since that is de rigeur for me.
