How do I format an atavar?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I want this (hope this link works) :
as my atavar, along with a subtext "The Hills! The Hills!"
Can anybody give me a simple recipe to follow to do this? I've got the image downloaded and text edited in, but can't get it into the 100 x 100 pixel format. I'm not a total computer dunce, but pretty far from geek-level competence.

Do you have photo editing software such as Photoimpression, Adobe or Photo Impact? If so, if you open the image - go to edit to size the image. Once there, change percent to pixels, make sure the image reads no more than 100 X 100 pixels... and save it in My Pictures. You cannot size the image on this website.

Then go to the avatar setting hit browse, find My pictures, upload your image and go from there...

    Resized avatar

Let's see if this works. I saved your image and resized it two different sizes.

You right click on the one you want and save it to your hard drive.

Then you change your avatar on the user control panel.

Thanks! I was using Paint and the % shrink method. I've got a couple of photo editing programs tho. Maybe they'll let me specify pixels, and add the text, and cut the image square. I may also try another version of The Scream (black and white woodcut version may stay clearer when shrunk). If I don't get it right on my own now, then I'll use one of the ones Adventure Girl downsized.

Hmmmm. Got it cut down square and formatted to 100x100, but now the board response is that it is "not a valid file". Wrong file type? Or maybe there's a copyright tag on the file (fair enough, I am ripping off Warhol, who in turn was imitating Munch). Maybe I have to redraw this myself. Or find something else that's legal.

What file type did you use? Try .jpg or .bmp as the type if the file is currently a different type.

It's .bmp, so that shouldn't be a problem. Or does it have to be jpeg?

Yup, you're right. I just re-saved my avatar picture as a .bmp and I couldn't use it. It does work when saved as .jpg.

OK. I'll try the Warhol version again with .jpg later. Meanwhile, this one from today's Norwegian e-newspaper seems to work (there's a trial going on about the theft of the picture).

    Dredged up old thread

Hey, I know this thread is really old, but I brought it back up because I just read that 'The Scream' and another stolen masterpiece by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch were recovered by police on Thursday, two years and nine days after gunmen seized the paintings from an Oslo museum.

    That's great news, AdventureGirl!

Hearing about that robbery made me feel ill... I don't think I will ever understand the criminal mind (and for that I am grateful! ). I appreciate the update!
