SW 2007 Ride Calendar

I'm going to start this, but I'd like others to contribute, especially those of you AZ and NM way. Oh! And you CO girls pipe up if there are any can't miss rides in the western part of your great state.

I've been thinking about what I might want to ride this year, so I've been going through my various lists seeing what's available. I'm thinking maybe 2-3 organized rides here as I'd also like to travel to Cali to ride with the AV girls for something. Anyway, last year in Utah I did the Zion Country Century, Salt Lake Century, the Little Red Riding Hood, and the Desperado Dual. I'll probably do Little Red again and for some crazy reason I'd love to do Tour de Fire in Las Vegas. Zion Country was sure a nice first C for the year (it was nice to get out of the cold for that one).

Anyhow, here are some dates:

Zion Country: St. George, UT, Feb 24
Ghost Town: Tooele, UT, April 21
Tour de Summerlin: Las Vegas, NV, April 21
Cactus Hugger: St. George, UT probably May 5
Tour de Fire: Las Vegas, NV, May 5
Cycle Salt Lake Century: Salt Lake City and points north, UT, some time in May
Li'l Red Riding Hood: Wellsville, UT, probably June 2
Desperado Dual: Panguitch, UT, Aug 4
LOTOJA: Logan, UT to Jackson, WY, probably Sept 8

And...I've wanted to do the X Rides (in Nevada) for a couple of years now, just because it's so quirky. Anyone done that one? It's May 5-6 for 2007.

I know I'm missing the ULCER in Utah County in August, Heber Valley (September), and several of the multi day events like the Skinny Tire Fest in Moab (March 3-5, I believe).

So, let us know what you're thinking about for 07!

I want to go back to Maine for the Loster Roll ride. It's been on my list for two summers now. It's July 21 this year.

Thanks for the post, Yellow! I've been wondering about some of these dates, but have been too durn lazy to look anything up!

I'm thinking of putting a big maybe on for Zion, but for sure I'm planning on Cactus Hugger, Little Red, ULCER, and LOTOJA again this year.

OK, I don't know what rides I am doing for sure, but here is my optimistic schedule:

I would like to do Cactus Hugger 5/4-6, the Salt Lake Marathon Bike Tour 4/21, Little Red Riding Hood 6/2, ULCER 8/11, and be part of a LOTOJA 9/8 relay team.

This one looks fun and is in a beautiful part of the country. I don't think I would be able to pull it off though: Tour of the Unknown Coast in California.

Oh, I went to college in Arcata, CA at Humboldt St...Beautiful part of the coutry. My first real experience in riding was from college thru Blue Lake...it was wonderful. I wish I could do that one too...
But, I hope to do Little Red Riding Hood, maybe Cactus Hugger, The Tour De Cure (June), ULCER (Aug), West Yellowstone to Old Faithful and back (Oct), maybe the SLC Century...I have never done a century. I want to do a century. My longest was 78 in last years ULCER. I hope to sign up for BBTC's so you want to ride a century this year...Right now, I have to get over my cold...

I think you should come do Li'l Red with us old timers (on the board, that is) as your first 100! We had a great ride last year. I don't know if you saw the thread from last year, but we had quite a crowd!

Wow, I just read last years LRRH thread (thanks Yellow for the link)...what fun!!! I had done LRRH in 2005 for the first time. I rode 36 miles on my mtn bike (now commuter bike). It was my first "organized" ride I had done in 20 years and really got me back into riding. I missed last year because I signed up to do the ride before the SLC Marathon. That was ok, but not really my cup of tea, you might say. Yellow, I don't know that I could keep up with any of you...I know riding in a group can help add a few mph, but I am lucky if I can average 14 mph. But, I do plan to ride LRRH this year and so maybe I will be lucky enough to ride with some of you...In the back of my mind, I would love LRRH to be my first century. I have to discipline myself and train...I am home sick today, rooten cold and no energy to climb on my trainer...This makes me want to do more indoor training to really get a jump on the season...

sbctwin, LRRH will be my first century too! I sure had fun last year, though I bonked outside of Newton. I have thought about the SL Marathon bike tour and would like to know about your experience.

Just reserved my hotel room for Little Red, I am getting excited even though it is 4 months out!

Lifesgreat...you mentioned earlier that LRRH will be your first century...so how are you going to train for it? I would like LRRH to be a century for me, but I am afraid I will jinx myself. I really need to get on my bike outside, but the cold and bad air keeps me inside on the trainer. I am getting anxious to start riding outside...

You should definitely consider doing the Zion Century b4 LRRH...it's a beautiful ride
