I'm curious to know how many self-declared men there are on TE, aside from Mr. Silver and Boy In A Kilt (who are great additions to the discussions).:)
Also curious to know how many women here suspect there are a lot more guys here, undeclared, than we know? I've often wondered.
I've only seen 1-2 suspicious ones and they don't usually hang around for long. And if I don't "notice" them, then it doesn't bother me that they're here because they are obviously not being obnoxious like some of the immature guys on bikeforums.
there's the guy who wants to have a girls only ride in Seattle next year.
Every now and then a guy gets on here for a few posts to ask or answer a question. They really don't seem to stick around!
We see "El Hombre" now and then in the "Northwest" forum. I think he's the guy who's planning a women only ride for sometime next year?

Fine by me. I raced bikes in high school (so I shaved my legs), and wore both eyeliner and an earring (not two, this was the early 80's mind you). At 15 years old, I figured out that men and women have different opinions about what is "manly." At 39, I don't care much anymore. I can do everything from lead soldiers in combat to comb my daughter's hair. It probably doesn't hurt that my wife finds men of that sort to be extremely attractive.

Mr. GLC is a member here and he occasionally lurks (or does a search) when he's looking for something specific. I'm pretty sure he doesn't hang out here on a regular basis, though. I will say that he probably takes exception to being referred to as "Mr. GLC" since I'm pretty sure he found TE before I did! :p
LeeBob occasionally lurks on the California forum, to find out what rides we'll be doing, because sometimes I forget to tell him. oops. :o
But he says he's not at all interested in the general forum. Not disparagingly so, it's just not his cup of tea.
And he really likes all the TE gals he's met, and their friends and SO's.
I know I've said this before, but one time we were driving home from a TE group get-together, and he mentioned something along the lines of "you're so lucky, you've met so many great people from that internet forum, and there doesn't seem to be an axe murderer in the bunch !" :D
Roadfix is a declared guy, but he gave me wonderful advice when I posted a query on a fixie conversion for my son. He tends to hang out mostly in the maintenance forum. We had a lengthy discussion on this topic in the past, and I think the consensus was that the group was comfortable with guys posting as long as they conformed to the 'culture' here, which is more supportive and respectful than many mixed sex forums.

It's the world wide web not the womens wide web. You can't put a sign that says "women only" and expect most men not to peek in :rolleyes: I don't think I want this board to be like "some other womens boards" ahem :rolleyes: where there's an approval process, that smacks of cliques, discrimination and eliteism.
I don't think we gave TE enough credit. Maybe it's more than "just" a womens board but a community where the primary rule is "civil conversation and discussion" and not "women and Mr. Silver only". :cool: ;) :rolleyes: ;) ;)

When we were vacationing on Orcas Island, we saw a man with a nice black kilt. It was really kinda cool.
I know my husband found TE before I did; he ordered rain pants for me from TE and the account was in his name for 3 years. I only found the board part of TE when I was home on vacation and bored one day during the dead of winter. I have done rides with several of the TE people who live in MA and not an axe murderer among them! Some of my friends think it's a little weird that I would meet up and ride with "strangers," but now they sort of see that it's really OK.
I think Mr. Maislin sees the board as my "place," though. When I was looking for a new bike rack earlier in the summer and he was searching, my post about how I trashed my old rack came up! It was funny and he actually checked out all of the recommendations that people made. But, he didn't continue looking through the posts, even though I think if you met him, you would agree that he is somewhat similiar to Mr. Silver and Mr. Kilt.
You can usually tell the "creepy" guys who post here and yes, they usually do not stick around.
None taken. For one thing, I'm married into a Korean family Koreans refer to people by their relationship to others. I'm generally "your husband" when Soo's parents are talking to her. At first, I thought it was just because my first name (Sean) can't be written in Han Gul and it's a hard name for Koreans to pronounce.Quote:

I've been aware of TE for quite some time. When Soo became a regular, I thought it was cool, but I always thought of it as "her" place. Had she not "invited" me in, I wouldn't have joined. The discussion actually came up because there are a few women that post on a kilt forum I belong to.
But back to the original post. If you see a guy in the bothell area wearing a kilt or riding a red Co-Motion, it's probably me.
I'd be into a medium-length ride. We've done the chicken park to woodinville. If I can get my hands on my friend's Xtracycle, we could go a little longer.

I had my DH post for me when I was on my solo tour a few years ago. Though he posted under my name, he was careful to identify himself. It seemed to go over well.
Every now and again I'll point him to a thread he'd be interested in, but I don't think he visits otherwise. Just not his cup of tea.
On the axe murderer thought:
'Way back when DH & I were about to get married, a mutual friend pulled me aside and warned me that DH probably was/is an axe murderer, 'cause he's too nice to be real. Really - I'm not making this up!
I went ahead and married him anyway, but I've kept the axes away from him. Don't want him murdering any axes, now, do I? :D
Supportive. That's the key. We share information, insight, inspiration, positive support, etc.
My DH posted once. To thank the TE girls for their support as he went through a cancer scare. Lucky for us it was just a scare, but your thoughts, words, positive vibes, prayers, wishes, butterflies, helped us both get through that dark short chapter of our lives.
As long as we keep it supportive it's all good, right?
