Now there's an idea, let's work that into the next contract at mega-telco. I'd walk the picket line for that one: birthdays off!! Yeah!.
No, I'm at work. I do get lots of time off (21 days, + the usual holidays + if I can afford to take unpaid time off just do that +....) well, more time off than many folks. But I'd rather save that up for cycling and or Knott (everybody: awwwwwwww :p )
Awwwww.... :p
Awwwwwwwwwww :p
awwwweeeeeeeeeeee!!!! :)
Awwwwwww :p
Trek - OYL is getting b-day humps on the "other" board, be sure to drop in. ;)
Happy Birthday Trek!!
Hope you have a good day even if you have to work.
Queen!! - So nice to "see" you. Where have you been?
Wahine - I was in Florida for a while helping my folks out with their new computer and some household stuff.
Note to anyone thinking of buying a new PC...avoid Windows Vista like the plague. HOURS on hold with tech support in India and more glitches than I can count, boxed it back up and returned to Best Buy on day three.
Queen, getta Mac hee hee :D
Good to see you again Queen. :) Sorry about the computer hassle. As Trek mentioned (but not in these words) MACs rule. ;) :D
We've been contemplating a new laptop in the next year...I came home and said "I don't care that it costs more, I'm buying a mac next time!", she said she thought it was time to switch too. So will you mac folks be available for consult when I can't figure out the most basic things like clearing the cookie cache? :D
Yes indeed. :) Usuing a Mac is extremely easy. :D
:p Last mac I used looked like this one:

I had one of those. I even had an Apple II. Yup, I'm a Mac girl all the way. Right now I've got the G4 powerbook and I love it. :D :D
Macs are waaaaayyyyyyyy more intuitive than PCs with Windows. You'll have no problem at all and the tech support is great.
don't eat Macs and don't use 'em either.
can rebuild my own computer whenever I want to. I guess that makes me a PC nerd.
and I'll wait until Windows Vista is in its 3rd rerun before i even think about it.
Those of us who live in Microsoftland know to NEVER, NEVER, NEVER get new MS software. We always wait at least a year, better two, so they can get rid of all the bugs---excuse me, I mean "features"---that they didn't bother with in their rush to market it.
Ask Bruno28 about this! Right, Ms. Bruno?
LOVE my Mac.....
Mac! Mac!
You'll find the new Macs (I have an iBook G4) just as intuitive and simple as the old ones. When we got our iBook, all we had to do was turn it on and we were up and running!
When I call Mac tech support I don't think I've ever been on hold more than maybe a minute, and I've only had to call them twice in over a year.
I do recommend getting "The Missing Manual" by David Pogue. Excellent book for the Mac.

Click "security"
Click "show cookies"
Either click the "delete all button" or just delete the ones you don't want.
You can set your cookie preferences to only accept cookies from websites you navigate to. Like TE. I just deleted ALL my cookies to see how it worked. It kicked me off TE and made a bit of a mess. I won't do that again, I'll just delete the cookies I don't want individually.
Hmm...
I agree. I'd never buy MS OS within two years of its release. Took me years to upgrade to XP from 98. Wanted to let all the Win2k, Millenium, NT stuff settle before I settled on an OS that looked it was going to be the staple.
Mimi -- I'm sort a with you but as someone who once worked at Apple and then went into PC nerdland.. I'm agnostic. I think it's cool that the new Mac OS is now commandline capable and so the "under the covers" stuff is open for those who want to be geeks but it's still the same ole friendly Mac to those that don't give a hoot. Pretty cool balance.
Still agnostic though I do have a soft spot for Macs.
Yup, next new laptop in our house will be a mac. I know nothing about them, so all you happy mac users may be needed to provide a bit of guidance..... don't panic, it's probably a purchase that's 2 years away....
Great to hear from you, Kit! Glad you're having fun!
hugs and butterflies to you all,
~T~
Using Vista is character building. :D Just don't try and run any other programmes with it - nothing is compatible - even some of the software dell shipped with my new vista running laptop. Actually there's even problems with windows media player and vista.
Forget the help desk - you are better googling for solutions.
It looks nice though:rolleyes:
Imagine, if you will, two 73 year old parents who call me every time they lose the "flashy thing" (the cursor) and who click on most any pop up that shows up FREE SCREENSAVERS...NEED TAX HELP?...YOU JUST WON A MILLION DOLLARS", and who are on the slowest dial-up I've ever seen. Now imagine those same people sitting there with their shiny new computer with windows vista... ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH
I'm actually pretty competent on a PC but still couldn't make it run worth a crap.
I can relate (only I am not very computer literate) and my dad calls me about his PC problems. :( Repeatedly I tell him, dad, I use MACS. Yet he calls me, not my Brother and SIL who use PCs. That would make sense. Then he proceeds to try and explain the problem in terms similar to what you described and of course what I see on my screen is different than a PC and the terms are different enough to totally confuse and frustrate both of us. I am still trying to convince him that "reload" and "refresh" are the same term. He asks about virus protection, I tell him, please buy a Mac. Nope, so he gets a virus and needs help, which I know nothing about, I am virus free. :p I have begged him to take the free classes at the library. I will not even go into how horrendous it was to teach him how to send an attachment via email. *sigh*
Salsa,
Are the renovations near completion or completed on your house? I need an update. I miss the progress photos, especially your fantastic ability to pick colours.
SKnot hangs around on Mac forums and says that Vista is just Microsoft's attempt at reverse-engineering Mac's OS X.
My kid is a Mac snob. (I love it!)
I whole-heartedly agree w/ Sknot. It is. Gosh. Widgets are great, huh? What a new and novel concept!
Happy birthday, Lenusik
(and little L inside: let Mummy-to-be have a quiet and pleasant day. You can come out to play from *tomorrow*)
