Wow, Snap - that concert will be fantastic!!!
mimi that is horrible about what they did. they need to be drop kicked!
kit, i didn't pressure you to run, i just put the option out there for you and told you that you could do it. and look, you can!
cc when we were down in PI we stayed at Subic Bay. this year we are going to go back to subic bay for a while then go over to boracay island for a bit. that's a bummer what happened to the bike.
snap have fun!
wish i had some fun thing to do for halloween. i miss holidays. its hard to have them up here. :(
God mimi, that's just obscene. Do they have any clue as to who did it? Reminds me of the a$$hat here that terrorized and killed some ducks at our local carwash.
I don't expect we'll ever know. I called there today and no one is getting worse, so maybe all the kitties will heal up.
They are getting A LOT of exposure with their 15 minutes of fame. Their website usually gets 350 hits a day, yesterday there were 2400. If this translates into more cats being adopted, we will all be relieved!
I am sitting in my office looking out at the most beautiful gorgeous day that you can imagine. 65 degrees, sunny, no wind. (oh, a tiny bit of wind!)
CWR- Eh, you pressured me by running and being good at it- so I wanted to try, too. :D Just wishing I could manage a decent pace and breathe decently, too. All will come with time and effort, eh?
Today feels like a long day. I've been here an hour and it feels like two. Blah.
can't say i'm good at it. i just go out and do it. i don't have anyone to compare myself to out here so i'm probably really bad compared to the rest of the world. same with cycling. i just go out and do it.
my day seems like its dragging too. this morning went quick, not i have an hour left that seems like forever.
ack! my friend made me home made crandberry bread for watching her cats while she went to town. i did good up until 15 mins ago from not touching it. now that i broke into it i can't stop eating it!
put down the bread and walk away slowly.....
Nanci-Your riding amazes and inspires me. I am glad you had such a nice time. Do you have any pictures?
I still cannot ride, but I have been out running. Who knew I would love it so much? Everyone here, without knowing it, pushes me to try to be a better athlete, A huge sappy Thank You to each one of you!
People suck, bread is good for you, and I did not hit a squirrel on my way home, and the truck behind me didn't even spazz out.
I saw the Stones here earlier this year. They are legends and that's why I went but it wasn't the best concert I've ever been to. Mick has phenominal energy but looking at Keith Richards, I swear, I was waiting for the guy to die right there in front of me. (8th row tix!) I saw them on their Steel Wheels tour and this one just came up a little short. Compared to most of the other bands out there today, they're still one of the best tickets though. You won't be disappointed.
Bonnie is GREAT live. I've seen her 3 times over the years. She just gets better with age. What a dynamite bill for a concert. You're a lucky woman. Overall, I'd put Bonnie and Melissa Etheridge as the two best concerts I've ever been to. (Just went to another Melissa concert on my graduation day in Aug. and she's even better than before. FWIW - If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend you don't miss it.)
Hehehe... that's sooo cool! I was out riding with a friend last week and we busted out singing the Time Warp. (among others) I love going to RHPS parties!!! Did my first one back in 1993 and got hooked. They used to do a showing once a month in Harrisburg at an old theatre. Oh, the place was so trashed after every one. Good times, good times... I haven't been to one in a few years. Maybe the girls and I need to hit one for old times sake. I'd go as Frankenfurter - he's my fav. Just LOVE Tim Curry!! I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Ugh. Today was such a *nice* day until all the weird stuff started happening. The personal stuff is too weird to bring here, but for work, we had to both evacuate two production lines due to ventilation problems AND I just called the ER to transport another employee because he's got a severe migraine going on. Ugh. Why can't it just be quiet like EVERY OTHER NIGHT?!

Eh, whatever. It's still a nice night. :D Knot, have you decided on any other hot pics of Flossie to show us?
Just breathe Kit... deep cleansing breath. There. Can you smell it? Yeah, it's a nice B-52 just around the corner. Aaaaaahhhh, Kahlua, Bailey's Irish cream, Grand Marnier!! Hmmmm... I think I'll get started without ya. :D
Hope it starts going better.
cindy
buh-buh-but.... we ran out of fixin's....
The Bailey's was first to go- it went in my coffee, too. :o
Grand Marnier goes well in 7-up and Fresca. We killed that a couple nights ago...
Last night saw the last of the Kaluah. DGF did it neat in shots... while I watched in admiration :p
But there's cider at home... so that'll be okay. The thing about incidents here is if it's a chem. spill or a medical incident, we have to have our report done the very next morning... so that means I have to stay after until it's called 'all clear' even if it's another 6 hours. =P
oh! That reminds me, I got a call back again- Interview next tues with the financial planner- very promising. :D At least there I wouldn't have to take the phones with me into the bathrooms...
Kitsune: Awww... all out? If you were my SS, I'd be sendin' ya a really "user friendly" package, if you know what I mean. ;)
I had a job (for 15 yrs) that wrecked my nerves and made me feel like crude. At the end, I used to get panick attacks walking in everyday. Had to go to the chiro 2x/week to get the kinks out of my neck. I feel for ya Kit. I hope the financial planner one comes through for you. You seem like a great gal and I wish you all the best!!

The Lake Okeechobee ride sounds mostly beautiful. My spouse is now in West Palm Beach for the work week, taking 20-mile rides on his folding bike every morning before work. Not sure either of us would be able to manage daytime Florida riding, at least in the summer.
SO....we are back in the house, living in the basement for the duration of the remodel. While we spent those two weeks in the Paine Field Hilton watching airplanes, they had to replace the old furnace chimney because the clay liner had totally crumbled. They cleaned up mounds of soot, but there is still a fine layer of soot dust over all our belongings in the basement. You know--the place where we now have to live for the next few months. Probably the soot soaked up any remaining moisture from that flood, though, don't you think?
When they started banging on the floor, bits of the hideous acoustic tile ceiling in the basement started falling down, sifting in my tea. So that has to come out too (boy, so sad. I hated that ceiling). But not till everything else is done, so that means in approximately a million years, I think.
But the exterior walls are up and dried-in, the new roof is on, and the inside rooms are framed so you can start to see what it'll really look like when it's done. The new windows are all in. And the four skylights.
Brief Mom report for those of you who were following: She went from the hospital to skilled nursing facility for rehab in mid-September, but has been back in the hospital twice in the last week as they try to balance her fluids (not enough Lasix---some CHF; too much Lasix--early kidney failure). She's gamely sticking with it but not getting much better so far. We are still hoping she can, though. Still has her sense of humor, but you can tell it's hard work.
I am going to get gold/copper-colored streaks put in my hair tomorrow morning and will do a 40+ mile ride after that! Gotta take your fun where you can find it, you know...
X- Thanks for your wellwishes. :D I think things'll turn up. Glad you're somewhere better now. This one isn't so much stressful as it's a pain and sometimes degrading and feels like a total dead-end. *shrugs* I'll be out soon enough- just have to remind myself to keep doing the very best I can while I'm still here.
salsa- Copper/gold highlights look SO good in naturally brownish/reddish hair. I hope your mom starts doing better... that's a hard place to be in. Glad your house is starting to come together a bit more, though. Lots of positive energy for you. :)
Kit--sorry to hear it's so lousy. Like everyone else, I'm pulling for a new and much better job for you.
Salsa, I'm glad to hear things are looking up with the house. Keeping your mom, and SK and CWR's folks in my thoughts, too.
I sent out a PM about my fun dates with the SG. If you didn't get it, and want me to send it to you, just let me know! :D L.
Not much. This job is just lousy. Because it's a 24/7 facility, they "have" to have a receptionist here 24/7. So they thought for awhile about how to do that on the super-cheap and got around to the idea that "Oh! our super-cheap contracted security officers are here 24/7- we'll have them do it!" so we're receptionists at this building 24/7 and for the main line after their 'real' receptionist goes home... and since emergency calls some in on the same line that prank/telemarketing/transferred calls come in on, we get the right/privilage/orders to transfer all incoming calls to a mobicell and have to take the mobicell into the restrooms etc with us- no breaks, no lunch, etc etc.
Hope it's not TMI, but when someone has IBS and wants to scurry to the bathroom, the LAST thing they want to do is answer the ****** phone while they're in there!!!
So that's my rant. Hopefully my next job will have fewer weird indignities.
Good Morning!
Salsa- I am glad things are a little better for your mom, my continued prayers. I am glad your home renovation is going well. The highlights will be lovely. Enjoy your ride. :)
Kit- something to weird for TD? I am sorry you are unhappy at work. Taking the phone into the bathroom, eeewww. Tlak about no privacy. I am thinking very positive thoughts for your interview. Keep us posted.
Lise-Than you for the update via PM. :D
I am off to do housework (ick), exercise (yay), and figure out what to wear for my run this evening, as it is suppose to be cooler (yippee) and rainy (YAY). The school keeps scheduling meetings which conflict with my running schedule.
The sun is coming up, and it looks like a great day for a bike ride! Gotta work this morning, then I'm rushing home cuz I'll have 3 hours before I get SKnot, so I'm going for a 3 hr bike ride. (sing it with me now: "A three hour tour")
Yay!
kit good luck on the job (i figure if i wish you that enough it will help you along.)
salsa hope things go better with your mom. you and sk are in my thoughts. and the highlights are going to look so pretty!
Knot thanks now i have that song stuck in my head. :p
Will this help? http://www.gilligansisle.com/theme.html
heeheehee! :p
Mimi coming up for air!
Hi guys. Yes, it is such a beautiful day that i deliberately left late to go to work so i could ride in with a semblance of daylight. And for the first time, I met a coworker who lives near me! so we went in together on the scary streets. My last mile of "cool down" became warm up because he's a fast rider. Owell. it was fun anyway.
Update about the pet shop: 15 minutes of fame can translate into a lot of money. They got a lot more $$$ than they ever imagined and for once their budget is not on a shoestring. All the hurt cats are getting better. they have a wish list and a lot of people just gave them things off their wish list. so now they have a room full of bleach and a room full of paper towels! :D :D :D
They had me take those things off the list!
thanks lise.... i'll get you for that one.
about two weeks ago i twisted my ankle, went away rather quick. so what did i do today, twisted the same ankle. argh!!!!! i love my danskos, but i think i need to start wearing boots with ankle support.
Knot! No! (now the song's stuck for good... Great!) The one complete episode I saw (too sick to change the channel so I suffered) was one where the Doctor said the island was sinking. I think I ranted about the bad science for a good hour afterward...
CWR- Yay for encouragement! and if encouragement doesn't work, threats are always welcome as long as you follow up on them... :D
BMo3- Too weird. It's ok, I'm over it- it's passed. but yeah, the phone thing bugs me. Nothing like being in the BR with about 5 other ladies, having the phone ring, and having to say "Okay- No one flush!!!111oneone!" :p
It occured to me that I was being so cautious about my dating life on line because I was seeing various guys, and didn't want them checking up on me. Now that I'm so enjoying seeing the Southern Gentleman, who cares? I'm happy! Whoo hoo! He will henceforth be called "J", by the way, since the abbreviation "SG" is the same initials as my ex's name (where's the "barf" icon?) He is such a cool guy, nice, funny, smart, has a great deep voice with a southern accent...sigh. I get to see him again tomorrow midday. We're fitting in times to see each other, since between my trip to DC and his move, there won't be many opportunities for the next week and a half. How wonderful to have someone who makes a way to see me when the time is tight. This feels really good.
And now for something completely different...my elbow's even feeling better. Not *all* better, but a lot better just today. The chiro did some different things on Saturday. I'm seeing him again tomorrow afternoon (he's the other man in my life...make the pain go away and I'll love you forever! :p ) I hope to soon be back to normal with the elbow. That would be great.
It's getting cold, wet, and windy here. Even predicting some snow flurries. Today I talked to J. about how beautiful the lake is in the winter. I look forward to sharing that with him. He's from the south, and hasn't lived a winter near Lake Michigan yet. What's so cool is that he loves it up here. Anyone who loves my city is a notch up in my book. :D Hmmm, is dating someone new sufficient reason to get yet another winter coat? I guess not.
awe http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i2.../goodsigh2.gif
and i think its an excelent reason for a new coat! you can never have to many or be to warm!
YES! Yes it is, especially when you live here. Here's my suggestion for warmth with style and sass:
http://www.landsend.com/cd/fp/prod/0...&CM_MERCH=SRCH
It's longer than a jacket, the filling is warm but thin so it doesn't make the wearer look bulky, and pulling up a hood can be cute and romantic! And it's Land's End, so it's good value for money.
Happy shopping ... :D
Lise you sound so happy!! :D
I am pleased to hear your elbow is feeling better. And yes, you definitely deserve a new jacket. Which did you have in mind?
Lise - yay!
And on other matters...
OMG! I did it! I bought Darth. Ground temperatures all over the world have plummeted. ;)
Whoa, Nelly! Congratulations!
No money left for a social life or anything else I might want for the next month (at least), but who cares about that! And when I do get back to my mtb, I'll be fast. :D
Please PM me, Lise! Can't help but be nosy after reading the little hints you've thrown out....... ;)
Congrats, DirtD! Whoo-ee!
Love, absolutely LOVE your ee.cummings quote, CWR. So perfect for my time of life.
I saw snowflakes today. UGH!!! Nothing against snow, but NOT YET!! Couldn't we wait till December, at least? Not that it stuck, but still, the thought of snow. I actually brought the indoor trainer out for it's first session of the season. Not ready for that!
My kitty has a name............ drum roll, please................................
Houdini, the wonder cat! 'Cause he can get in and out of anywhere! As he's already proved to us. Poor little guy - in the time he was out wandering, he picked up fleas, ear mites, and roundworms. All treated at the vet today. So I can only imagine how feisty he'll be when he's totally healthy! Whoooo!!! He and the guinea pig have now met, face to face. Guinea pig in cage, cat clinging with claws to outside of cage, staring each other down. Cat backed of first, falling off the cage. Might as well let them get used to each other. I just wish I'd had the camera handy! Sometime.......
mimitabby - what did I miss about the pet shop?? And the cats??
Spent most of the evening working on my halloween costume. Fun! It's for a Halloween bike ride. The Pumpkin Ride in Preston, MN. Anyone else doing any costume rides? I LOVE halloween. My favorite holiday. No kids left to create costume for, so lucky I get to do it for me. :D
TD moves so fast! I'm not keeping up like I'd like to.
annie
Dirt, that's cool about the new bike! Did you get the red one?
Annie- I'm glad the kitty is working out for you. I guess it hadn't sunk in you're up in Iowa. Did you get any of the snow?
Lise- I'm happy for you. He sounds wonderful.
My daughter called last night, crying inconsolably. All I heard was "amputation." Thank God it wasn't her son or husband, but it was her poor little Senegal Parrot, Prescious Roy, who had shredded his Happy Hut and then entangled his foot and hanged there with the circulation cut off till she found him. $750 surgery, but he survived, and the good news is instead of losing the leg, he may even have no toes but a partial foot left. She blames herself for not checking on him- but she could hear him during the time period, making normal noises and talking...Still- I understand how she feels.
Wow! $750 to amputate parrot toes. That's almost as expensive as human surgery.
I'm glad the bird was OK. Interesting that he stayed calm even while he was hanging there. Guess he figured he was safe because your daughter was near?
WHEW!!!!! Things here have finally settled a bit. The job I came back to IL for was too good to be true...after two weeks of 3-4 hours sleep a night, endless meetings with bosses to get the situation corrected, countless assurances of "it'll be okay" and "it's not that bad" from said bosses...I handed in my keys/phone/pager/ID/computer yesterday and said buh bye.
Then I called an old boss and asked if she could use me to cover for the maternity leave of the caseworker who took over for me and she said she'd LOVE to have me back! She also said it would be fine to do some job hunting on company time if things are slow! Sometimes life just works out. :D
Queen, that sounds good! And letting you job hunt at work is mighty nice.
