Cool My Evil Plan - Kids in Tris!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

My 11yo god-daughter E.V just moved here from Victoria. She's a FANTASTIC swimmer (1st in her district for butterfly this year), a good cross country runner and loves her bike to bits. Did I mention that she's the same height as me??? She's got both the TALL genes from our side of the family and her dad's (my mum is 170cm tall, my brothers are over 190 and her dad is almost 2m tall!!!)

I've been scheming and praying that E.V and her family would move up to brisbane in time for the first gatorade series triathlon in October...

    They're here now!

ME: So E.V. You interested in doing a triathlon with me in October?
E.V: (looks quizically) How far is it???
ME: for your age? 100m swim, 2km Ride and a 400m run
    E.V: YEAH!!! Will I get a medal????

in hindsight now I think E.V's thinking of the weet-bix try-athlon held in april where every kid gets a medal for finishing...

ME: Probably... You're like the fastest swimmer there is. So you just need to ride as fast as you can and run as fast as you can so the other kids can't catch you.
E.V: Is there boys! I won't beat boys...
ME: You're not racing boys, you'll be racing girls aged 10-12
    E.V: (EVIL LAUGH)

So... I think she's interested don't you?? The conversation kept going and she wanted to know how about transitions and everything too! She even wants a tri-suit already!!! If she finishes her first one and wants to do more then I may just have to buy her one... Or if I buy myslef a new one... She can fit into my old one! YEAH!

To continue our story, E.V has a 8yo sister... CH. CH is also a good swimmer, but she's still on training wheels. Because E.V is doing this tri, CH wants to do it too! CH will be in the yougest category provided I can get her off her training wheels in time.

So... I've recruited 2 brand new triathletes. Fingers crossed they enjoy their first Tri so I have some TRI-buddies for the rest of the season! ^_^

They'll look so cute in their tri-suits too!

How adorable!! Between you and Running Mommy- there's kids getting dragged into the sport all over the globe. How fun would it be to have the girls doing tris with you? Too fun!!
Crossing fingers that she'll love it and you two can have a whole other level of bonding.

    Bwahahaha!

Could be just the incentive younger daughter needs to brave life without training wheels too...

I'd love to get my son (9) into doing the kids tris here. He bikes, and he started in the school running club last year. He loves the water but would need some formal swimming lessons to work on his stroke. We were just talking about it last week with him and he's interested and wants to swim this winter. We have a great mini-tri here for kids in August.

kelownagirl- it would be so great to get your son into tris. He's interested, so a little shove from you might be all he needs!
I was so impressed that a student of mine got into tris last year. He was 11 and could ride the wheels off his bike, and run like the wind. Too bad he beat me, cuz I got some ribbing from him the day after we did the same tri (although I reminded him that when I was 11 my body wasn't as old and creaky as it is now ).

EV went to the bike track yesterday... Her average speed was 28kph racing around the track... Her max was 35kph!!! That's faster than me just a few months ago!

She's on a kids mountain bike which weighs more than my hybrid did!!! We raced yesterday, I didn't use my tribars, and I was having a hard time keeping ahead of her! Imagine what she could do on a tri bike!!!

We figured out she should be done in under 5-10mins... 1:30 for 100m swim. 3:30 for a 2km ride and she's a great runner...

kelowngirl do it. Get your son involved! EV is having a blast and she hasn't even done her first tri yet...
