    Garmin Courses

I created a course, or route, based on one I saw on Routeslips. I loaded it on to my Edge and used it today. I was very satisfied.

You can set your own "margin for error." I set it to warn me if I was more than 25 feet off of the course. On spots where I didn't follow the road too well when I built the route, I would get warnings. I also used some greenways which don't show on Google maps, so had to guesstimate, but seldom strayed.

I didn't have any waypoints or instructions, but these can be added. It would be very difficult to get really lost. I was on roads I was totally unfamiliar with. There were only a couple of spots where I stopped or got a little confused. But every time I was wrong and the Edge was right.

    So nifty.

    Way cool.
I haven't uploaded any routes to my Garmin.
What kind of datapoints to you load? Mileage?
Did Routeslip lend itself well to entry into the Garmin?
What display did you use on the unit? Did it point you to the next waypoint?
    Hmmmm.
I should really investigate that some more.....

If you can d'ld a route from routeslips, don't know about it. I did find a route there, print it out, add on to it. Then went to www.bikeroutetoaster.com laid out the route and d'ld to my puter. Then I imported it into training center and used that to load it onto my G.

I understand that in TC you can input things like "turn left onto" or "convenience store" or "coffee shop". These will then pop up a certain distance ahead.

BTW, when you create the course, it will give you an estimate of distance, elevation, etc. The estimate was about a mile short, or less.
