Do I dare wear the same outfit???

I'm going skiing tomorrow for the first time this year. It's going to be warmish and my red and whilte shell will be perfect but it's the same jacket I had on last Jan. when I fell and tore my ACL.

So the question is do I dare start the ski season with the the same outfit that I had on when my ski season ended so abruptly last year or wear something else?

I'm wondering if the jacket will be a jinx or a good luck charm? Am I'm being overly superstitous about associating the jacket with my injury (it did not cause the accident) or is it just too much Halloween candy?

    Kathi,

Wear the jacket - it had nothing to do with it! ACL issues can happen thru tons of means and it was just bad luck that you had yours w/skiing. But I think most women's soccer, basketball, lacrosse, etc teams have one or more players with ACL recons, and I suspect most happily don their uniforms the first time they are able to again....

I tore mine in 98 doing Tae Kwon Do (1st time) despite being a frequent and then not so good skier (where one could argue it would have been more probable).

And then I stretched the lig at home a few years later jumping from a counter top (ok, not my brighest move ever). and went in for a revision. Fortunately that's been steady ever since.

It's just one of those bad things that can happen.

Other than that, just watch out for other skiers & don't rush yourself. It'll be a bit before you feel trusting of the whole situation again; that's normal. You will be fine! Have fun, I wish I were going!

hmm.. I'm with tygab... but if you're still feeling nervous.. maybe you should bless it and chase away the bad vibes by wearing it a couple times when you ride your bike

Evil superstition.... while I would have no problem wearing the jacket, I do tend to flip pennies on tails to pennies on head prior to picking them up.......

some people would say... this is the perfect time to wear the jacket as the bad luck has been used up and now it can only bring good things to the wearer.

I would say...the jacket has nothing to do with it, but I totally understand the feelings!

    Enjoy the new ski season!

Kathi, I had the same thought the first time I went skiing after my ACL surgery, particularly with the pants since they had to cut them open in the medical center (my fleece pants, but I liked them so I sewed them back up). I realized I was being fearful and that was no good, so to conquer the fear I wore all the stuff and its been fine. Have a great day! Jeez, I'm jealous thinking of you up there while I'm sitting here trapped in my window-less office.
The best part about going up hills is riding back down!

Wow, I'm so impressed by you gals who got back out there on skis after ACL injuries.

I tore mine jumping off something (okay, it was a prop in a play I was acting in-- the most improbable way ever to tear an ACL) and I haven't gone downhill skiing since I had surgery to fix it. I somehow think that if I was able to tear mine doing a normal activity, then I'd really be prone to injuring it while skiing. While I love xc skiing, and I'd love to get back out on the (down)hills, I can't bring myself to do it because I'm so paranoid.

So kudos to you for getting back out on the mountain! Wear whatever you want. And bring a good luck charm to offset any potential bad mojo.

    Have fun!

If I had to buy new clothes every time I injured myself, I'd be a) the most fashionable kid on the trails/road/riding ring, and b) even more broke.

I think of the rips and tears and holes and scratches and missing buttons and the parts held together by electrical tape as badges of honour. "Whatever doesn't kill me..."

It's scary to put that new pair of running shoes back on after you rolled an ankle, or go trail riding in the saddle without the knee blocks you got tossed from and trampled last time, or wear that white workout shirt even after you got out all the blood stains from the barbed wire.

If you think of the jacket as a jinx, it'll jinx you. If you think of it as a good luck charm, it'll give you strength. It's your choice, but I recommend the latter!
