Running for Gold week of Feb. 14th - Feb. 20th

Hey ladies.... I ran 12.74 today and my ankle hurt the whole way. I don't know what I did to it - could have been running in shoes on Friday or wearing heels last night. Anyhow the run itself was a breeze but the ankle really sucked and slowed me down. 10:36 mm.
I can do five more miles.

10 for me! It's been 5 years since I've done mileage like that. My right leg is incredibly stiff--it was sore before I began running. I think I banged it up pretty good luging the day before.

I am tired. I am sore. But it feels good. I avg about 11min/m.

GPS battery died at the end of my run, which apparently means I didn't get ANY of it, or maybe I will next time after I replace the battery, dunno. So sad.

I ran 90 minutes in my VFFs, anecdotally it was around 9 miles - I walked the first ~mile with my husband and dog, and ran the rest. I easily dropped 30-60 seconds PER MILE off my time at the same heart rate. What! Seriously. Every time I looked at my heart monitor, either my HR was low and I had to start pushing, or my speed was high - 8 minute miles at that HR? WHAT? Okay, whatever. I could get used to it. It felt totally different, like running is supposed to feel. I was running on the right part of my foot, I was running with the right lean, going uphill affected my HR much less. It was how I TRY to run in my running shoes, but can't seem to master. Maybe I just got lucky and had a good day at the same time I decided to try the VFFs.

Anyway, the backs of my lower calves are stiff, but that's to be expected.

Yesterday I got to ride 38 miles outside, today running in my VFFs... happy Valentines to me

I got a decent 40-minute trail run/walk in today. Didn't wear the HRM as I just didn't want to know!!

Colby, nice job with the VFFs!! I really miss running in those--it's just too cold right now so I am running in some water shoes that are pretty thin but still not the same.

I'm not sure how far I went, but I ran/walked for about 40 minutes today...and I did it outside! Yay!

I did 5x 4min intervals and then walked the balance. Total came to 37 minutes and that includes one minute of sitting on the sidewalk to put my shoes back on. I did one of my running (and walking) intervals barefoot. It's my first barefoot run outside and it was a freaking blast! I would totally have done a second running interval barefoot if I had anywhere to run. I am doing this near my house and I live in the country. Running on these roads is taking your life into your hands and really didn't relish the idea of having to leap into a ravine to avoid some huge pick-up without shoes on! The barefoot interval was run on the short stretch of sidewalk that I can get to from my house. I can run it from end to end in 4:30 - so that was my barefoot interval.

Tomorrow I'm going to scope out some routes from my office - I think running there would be safer and I can plan to do it right at 5 pm and actually have some daylight.

4 mile tempo run for me...I held a 8 mm pace!!!

We then changed clothes and do 30 miles on our road bikes. Not epic, but solid all the way around.

It was just 2.5 miles for me this morning, but I felt so hard-core out running down the road pre-dawn during my city's first official snow emergency in years-- 5ish inches on the ground and a brisk wind blowing and still more snow falling.

I'm so ready for spring to be here. Heck, I'd be happy to see it get over 32 F! I'm in KY, btw, so this is definitely not normal. We get winter, but not usually like this....

Still doin' the treadmill, just got MORE snow today. Did 5 miles and pushed my pace yesterday up to 6.6 MPH for about a half mile. That's pretty good for me I'm usually around 5.3 ish. Surprisingly I'm not even very sore from it. I did 3 half mile sprints like this. First one was about 6.2 then 6.4 and lastly 6.6. Something to break up the monotony!

Another 20. Had to trick myself into doing it... told myself I'd only go for 16-18, but took a route that allowed for some extra loops. As usual, by the time mile 10 rolled around, I was feeling pretty good.

I almost cut it short because I started getting a blister 19 miles in, just a quarter mile from my house. I took the walkway and started heading home, but once I got back onto pavement, it felt better and I went ahead and finished out the run.

Then I kicked the last 500 meters at 8:50 mm. Woot! When I got home my early registration bonus from the Cleveland Marathon was waiting for me... a pair of logo gloves. It's getting closer...

I am just day's away from my first marathon Feb. 21st) I have not been posting my runs, but I have been out there. Definitely in a "taper". Plan this week is some very short and easy runs, get lots of rest and not strenght training! Last week the lunges kicked my butt!
I am not sure I am ready. I know I can get 26.2 done. But I suspect it will not be easy nor very pretty. My goal time has changed, I started with a 4:30 goal, then drifted towards 4:40 - 4:50. And I am still in HOPES of completing it in under 5 hours.
I am ready to get it over with. So wish me luck and I hope to have an fun and exciting race report to post on Monday or Tuesday.

Good luck kat! I'm betting you'll do a lot better than you think you will. Race-day excitement and all that...

Here's something MapMyRun tweeted today that I saved for myself - don't know if you follow them on Twitter or not:

Run the first 10 miles with your head. Run the second 10 miles with your legs. Run the last 10K with your heart.

Good luck, Kat! I'm cheering for you and I'm sure you will do just fine. Be sure to report back to us. Oak, DH is training for his first and I have passed your wise philosophy on to him.

I did 3.5 this evening and it felt great. I learned something on my long run this past weekend. My Garmin was using my foot pod instead of GPS for the pace of my first 3 miles. I had no idea it was doing this and my foot pod needs to be recalibrated. I thought I was running a 9:30 pace when I was actually running an 11:00 pace. I was pumped. It felt good. I felt like a real runner. When I realized what was going on and reset my Garmin, I was deflated beyond belief. My confidence was shot. I realized how I was mentally sabatoging my efforts by even watching the pace. Tonight I only displayed distance and went for my run not caring about my pace. I just ran and only looked at my Garmin a couple of times to check the distance and just enjoyed the run. Guess what? It was the fastest run yet. Hmmmm.
