I'm at 5, I'm trying to talk myself down to 4. 1 mountain bike, 1 commuter, 3 road bikes.
I'm half intruiged by fixies, so I keep thinking I'll make or buy one, but I kinda think that's a dumb idea, 'cause I seriously like my gears on hills.
I'm a monogamist. I have one cyclocross bike now that takes me pretty much anywhere I want to go, and it will be either sold or donated when I can afford to get an upgraded one.
I have 3, and 1/2 of a tandem :p
I use my Davidson almost exclusively, sometimes I ride my mixte for short rides
and my old Hybrid is in the basement waiting to make fruit smoothies.
and yes, i'd buy another bike in a flash! (so i'm not looking now, i don't need
the temptation)
Three road bikes, one half of a tandem...lol, and a new baby on the way. My mountain bike shipped yesterday! Yay!!
I'd like to say that I'm totally happy and content with what I have now, but I'd really like a beautiful lugged steel fixed gear. Maybe someday!
Woohoo! I'm down to 8.5 thanks to dachsund. The 0.5 is my half of the tandem.
And this doesn't count the Marin Mt Vision frame and shock looking for a new home. Shock has been rebuilt and Pushed Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
This is a true statement!
I have 11.5:D.
Still "need"...
Cross Bike
Hard Tail Mountain Bike
Full Suspension Mountain Bike
Single Speed Cross Bike to Rough Ride
I like that you guys are making me feel sane.
It's okay for me to have 5 bikes, because I don't have 8-10 like you guys :)
I only have 3 - a road, hybrid and moutain bikes. The other two in my garage are spring cleaning finds and need new homes - I just got the bianchi measured and it's too big:( Anyone need/want a 58cm steel bianchi to fix up??
Two bikes- one for fun road riding, one with grocery panniers and racks for errands & shopping. It's all I really need because I basically do only those two types of riding!
Only 11, but I need a cross and a hardtail.:o
Wow you guys have lots of bikes! (I'm jealous :D) I have my zippier road bike and Fern, my nearly read y to take on the world in any capacity Raleigh. So 2.
2 road bikes (one is the brevet/trainer bike w/schmidt hub and lights)
1 mtn bike
1/2 of a tandem (or really 1/3, as we ride w/ our daughter)
1 Ducati :D
I'm really satisfied w/ my bikes right now. Next one will be the aluminum frame Pegoretti I believe. But that is a LONG way down the road (so to speak).
I have 3 bikes: one road bike that is strictly a roadie, a hybrid (well, it's technically a flat bar road bike, but to me it's a hybrid) with pannier, lights, etc, and a FS mountain bike.
I would like either a touring bike or Bike Friday. Or, a Bike Friday that I can use for touring. The idea of short inn to inn trips has intrigued me for awhile, but I definitely don't have the bike to do that. My DH has a Friday, but it's a road bike. He isn't traveling much anymore and since he loves his road bike, he has thought of trading it in for a Friday we can tour with.
So besides our 7 bikes, we have our son's classic steel Serotta hanging in our bike shed. Even though we bought it for him, we won't sell it!
I own only 3 :D
-'#1' road bike
-training road bike
-time trial bike
and I'm waiting for slingshot bikes to develop a new road model so I can buy a 'travel' bike... :)
I picked up a pair of Oakley Straight Jackets on Chainlove in the "Ducati Special Edition" color....flat grey and red with "Ducati" printed on one lens. I told my DH...."Now I need a Ducati to go with the glasses!" :D But, he didn't buy it. :( So....no Ducati for me.
But...I have 5 bikes: 2 drop bar road, 1 flatbar road, 1 dualie, 1 cruiser. I'm jonesing for a rigid singlespeed for playing in the woods at a local state park, and I'd love a custom Frankenstein bike (cross? tour? ultimate commuter monster?) for a commuter. Someday, on that last one. When the money tree out back finally bears some fruit!
Hey, the wheels were flat and I was really excited:p So I'm a dork - I had one of the bike shop guys measure it for me so it really is a 58cm. So it needs a new home! And he said the schwinn is lugged steel but it does need a lot of work. That one is my size if I want to spend a lot to fix it up. It may end up at the garage sale.
And I almost grabbed another one from the curb this morning. An orange bike with orange tape - another step through. But I resisted.
I am bummed about your Bianchi. it could have been a real love child for you.
I only have 4--one that lives at our store, my '73 Schwinn. The others are my road bike, mt. bike, and Bike Fri. I had a hybrid that I loved, but DH made me get rid of one when I got the Friday. He just doesn't understand! But I decided to get ride of the hybrid rather than have him get rid of me.
WOW - you guys make me realize I really really need more bikes! I only have the sexy french roadie and the Miss Cherry cruiser/errand/pleasure bike. I need a mountain, and a fixie!
Question - Anybody keep more than 2 or 3 bikes in an apartment? Space definitely is an issue...
More than 3 bikes in a apt. gets to be a hassle.
I currently have a Hybird, a Road bike, and a Recumbent. although the Hybird may morph into another recumebent:eek:
Three.
1) carbon road bike
2) cyclocross/commute bike
3) old raleigh reliant I picked up for $15 and plan to fix up and use as a town bike.
I could see getting two more (If I had the cash right now):
1) a road bike that is light and zippy but that I feel less protective of than my carbon bike -- a "training bike" if you like. There's a weekly practice crit series in the summer near where I live, and I'd love to try it, but among other things holding me back, I'm scared of crashing my bike.
2) a mountain bike
Two. My road bike, a Merlin that I absolutely love & a LeMond Poprad (technically a 'cross bike) set up for commuting and whatnot.
I only have 2 bikes ;) - mMy old Trek 2300 and my brand new Trek Madone 5.2 I also live in a 2-bedroom condominiium with my 2 daughters so space is an issue. But I refuse to put either bike in the bike storage room out back. There are tons of bikes in that room - on top of each other. I guess my girls and our dog have to get used to the fact that the bikes are part of the family :D I forgot to mention that I also have a very large treadmill in the corner of the living room. Since I'm not currently running, the bike trainer fits nicely on the 'mill.
I feel inadequate at 2. And yet, justified, because I want more!
I need a commuter, but can make my current Specialized Sequoia into a good commuter if I upgrade to a better road bike. So that is the plan for the future. I also have a Santa Cruz Juliana Mountain Bike who I'm really just getting to know!
I forgot to add that I may only have 2 bikes but I have 16 pairs of running shoes in my office (15 are brand new and still have that wonderful new running shoe smell) :D I get a lot of the double-takes when visitors see the stacks of boxes. They have no idea what to say or ask.
5.5
1 road bike
1 cross bike
1 touring bike
1 bike friday
1 mountain bike
1/2 of a tandem
Speaking of tandems.....can anybody think oog why the &^$% thing would have stopped shifting when the drum brake went on? It was shifting great. Our mechanic says "it's an old freewheel" and we need to just replace the wheel. But, it was shifting fabulously until they "played" with the spacing....
CA
I'm down to three (finally!). One road, one tourer/commuter and one mountain bike. I love all three and doubt there will be any additions to the stable until I can afford full custom.
My H is down to 5 and that's pretty good for him.
We lived in an apartment (2 BR) when we first moved here for about 5 months and the bike situation was a real problem. We had a grand total of 11 bikes at the time. Luckily, we were able to also rent a garage for *most* of the time we lived there. It only became a problem in the last two months when we gave up the garage to save money. We put 4 bikes that weren't being ridden regularly in our new home and I immedately sold one of mine. That left 6 in a small 2 BR. Three in the spare room (with a computer desk and two large dog crates!), one on the balcony, one in the living room and one in the second bathroom. The worst part is that we have a dog who is terrified of bikes when they are in the house. I'm surprized she survived those two months with no long-term mental damage! :p
1 road/touring
1 folder (road)
1 mountain bike
Been wavering over whether to outfit the mtb with a rack for neighborhood errands and groceries, as I have not taken it out in a few years due to injury and being too busy with school/work. But still hoping I'll find the time to get out on a trail one of these days.
Wow....I don't feel so bad any more. I was thinking I was out of control with 4:
- Galanas (Waterford Road)
- Edwina (S&S coupled Waterford)
- Surly (rain and winter slush bike--with a brand like Surly she doesn't need another name)
- Tank (Cannondale hybrid with snow tires)
LOL!
I've been on a see-it, want-it bender this last month. I had to have my kids remind me that I don't NEED another bike at our last trip to REI.:o Fortunately, the bike shopping spree urges are calming down.
I have 4, but the cruiser I have is going to get donated to a local bike co-op now that I have the Masi mixte to use as my toodle around bike. My Rodriguez is a tourer that I use most of the time. It's great for long rides and to pull DD's trailer up the hills we have around here. If I had to go down to one bike, she's the one. I have a classic Miyata mixte that I found abandoned last year, but I haven't had a chance to fix it up yet. It needs a lot of work. Dh likes to remind me that the $$ I'd sink into fixing it up is more than what the bike sold for new in the '80s. But he's not counting in inflation;) While I do think it should be ridden by someone even if it's not me, I'm just not ready to give it up yet.:(
I think it'd be fun to have a lighter go-fast road bike one of these days. And I'm occasionally tempted to try out dirt, but I don't know if I could handle the frequent bumps and bruises that seem to come with being a new rider. Oh, and DD is about to out-grow that trailer I mentioned earlier and she's not ready to ride her own bike farther than the closest park and grocery store. What do I do then? The trail-a-bike feels too unstable for me to be comfortable riding with it in traffic. I wish I could get a FollowMe bike coupler in the states. <sigh> From what I've heard, the low attachment point makes it feel more stable than a trail-a-bike or the Trail-Gator tow bar.
Well, even though this thread topic sounds familiar, but can't be bothered to do a search for older thread..
I'm knocked out...Shefly with her 10 bikes. Jeepers.
Have 3: 2 hybrids, 1 mountainbike
He has 3: hybrid, touring road and folding bikes.
We each have storage lockers, but mine is in a common bike locker with other people's. My standalone storage locker includes a jumble of art supplies and canvasses, which I would have to repack to accommodate another bike if I get one later.
The next one probably down the road, will be a folding bike.
I think we've been down this road before, too, but it's fun to see how many bikes people have, and who else shares this addiction - er, passion :D. And I think there may have been one or two who bested me in number...
Since others have listed, here's my breakdown:
1 road racing bike, Kestrel Evoke Carbon
1 road training bike, Rocky Mountain Turbo
1 road singlespeed, Voodoo Limba
1 MTB FS racing bike, Specialized Epic
1 MTB FS training bike, BMC
1 MTB singlespeed, Soul Cycles Hooligan
1 'cross racing bike, Specialized TriCross
1 'cross training/pit bike, Specialized TriCross
1 'cross foul weather/trainer/commuter bike, Flyte
1 TT racing bike, Cannondale Ironman
1 road tandem, Cannondale (I claim the whole tandem since we have two - the other is a TT-specific Cannondale)
Oh, and since MP counted the Ducati, I have a Honda Ruckus (scooter) for errands and commuting ;)
SheFly (no, we don't have children, college funds, etc....)
Wow, now I'm feeling both jealous AND inadequate with just my one bike.
I like to think of my bike as a general practitioner in a world of specialists. It's a touring bike that I've now used for touring, commuting, charity rides and one tiny triathlon. Every time I think of getting a speedy road bike I hear my depression-era father in my head telling me that what I have is just fine for my needs. And I'm STILL sitting on a generous REI giftcard my sisters gave me back in January, thinking I could use it for a fun cruiser or a partial payment on a road bike. I can't make up my mind, and Dad's voice keeps telling me what I have is fine, so why would I spend money on something I don't need?
