Ooooh, DH and I had a PERFECT short 16 mile ride through the countryside after breakfast today. It was sunny and in the 50'sF.....just gorgeous!!
Birds singing, daffodils blooming. A few good little hills were in there, it felt really good to get my muscles working again. :)
Spring came really late here but that is making me appreciate it even more.

Here it's pouring and the forecasts say severe thunderstorms for the whole day and night.

Kalidurga, 7rider, 7's friend, and I did a hilly 25 mile ride through rural Montgomery County, MD. It was fantastic. A bit chilly at the beginning, but a perfect temp on a sunny day by the time we finished. 7 did a lot more (rode to the start, then back to her friend's house) but 25 was plenty for me on my second road ride of the year.
Yep, we did the hilly Possum Junction to Leavenworth ride. Last time, I did it at 13.5mph...today I did 15.6mph! Temp was 60 at the start and SUNNY!

We just came back from leading our first ride this year. The weather actually cooperated and was perfect; it looked dicey a couple of hours before we left, but it was partly cloudy and around 60 for the ride.
We had 8 people, including Kfergos and Mayanorange and her husband. Three people bailed at the last minute; they thought it was going to rain.
We did 30 miles of rolling hills, with a a bigger climb near the end. Everyone was nice and sociable, no flats, and no other issues. We had a nice stop at Great Brook Farm, where it looked like lots of mountain bikers were hitting the trails.

It is FINALLY spring here!
We rode the Salt Lake marathon bike blast which is great fun, except for the start which is crowded, dark, and when I should be sleeping.
We were loosely affiliated with a pair of DH's work mates who are only a few months into their cycling adventures. Afterward, at breakfast, they were both high as kites, wearing their numbers and ride medals, beamingly proud at having completed the ride.
Sweet.

We did 50 miles in an organized ride called "Rose Pedals" benefiting Cystic Fibrosis. Started out at a chilly 38 degrees. The sun came up and we rode into 20 mph winds, so we were cold for the first hour or so. Then the weather got mild, we shed some layers of clothes and it was glorious. As usual in Georgia, hill after hill after freakin' hill. I'm very slow on hills.. averaged 13mph. Generated 2 gallons of lactic acid :eek: Too bad I can't bottle it and sell it.. I'd be rich!
Slow, short ride here. My allergies have been really acting up this year (usually they are a non-issue). Beautiful day, though. And the wysteria is in full bloom, so there's a lovely fragrance in the air from time to time.

rode from Bellevue to Snoqualmie falls, 100km and 4933feet of climb (can i mix Kilometers and feet? no? okay) 62 miles with 4933 feet of climbing. ow I tell you there were some nasty hills we did today.
It started off quite cold, in the 30s but it warmed up to the low 60's towards the end of the day.
We went up and down and up and down. At Snoqualmie falls, we stopped and did the tourist thing, It is a breathtaking view. then we went up and down and up and down for another 30 odd miles before we were through.
It was exhilarating, but I could have done with less of the 12% grades. :eek:
our high speed for the day was 44.5 miles an hour.
That was an ugly old trailer in photo #2, rather surprising to see considering the neighborhood we were riding through
I met a personal goal of sorts. I went from my house up to a local park called Snow Canyon. Then went home, through the park. It was something like 23 miles nad 4 hours on the bike, but I did it. The first part going up was the bear. I finally learned how to use the "granny gear" and was able to get up some of those nasty hills. Coming home it was all downhill.
This is some of the terrain that will be covered in the 2010 Triathalon.

We finally figured out that my lungs had not cleared up from my December cold due to cold-induced asthma. So I am now armed with two new inhalers.
We waited until it was a balmy 58 degrees this afternoon to set out on a 13.7 mile loop from our house to Green Lake, then west to Golden Gardens, where we took a break and enjoyed the view of dozens of sailboats out on the water. Picked up the Burke-Gilman Trail back to Wallingford and then up the hill to get home.
Just enough hills for DH to test out his new drivetrain, which is a bit better suited for climbing than what he used to have. He will probably never love going up hill, but hopefully he won't hate it anymore!

We rode 62 miles through York River State Park, Williamsburg, and the Colonial Parkway. It started off in the low 50s at 8ish and by the time we were finished at 2ish it was 91 :eek: The back of my arms have a lovely pinkish glow :o
Terrain is rolling hills and this was only my 2nd ever hilly ride. Hills are kind of tough to find on the coast of VB. We had to drive an hour inland to get there. It was worth it though. I hit 34 mph on one downhill which was pretty exhilarating.
That looks like an awesome ride Mimi! Do you happen to have the route traced out somewhere and would you be able to send it my way? (I don't have a GPS or other fancy gadget though.)Quote:

Thanks, Mimi! I can already feel a difference with the inhalers. I only huffed and puffed up the steepest hill, and after that I was able to pace myself pretty well.

Then the fun really began
MY Bacchetta came with 12-28 cassette. it's supposed to have a 11-34. I asked the dealer where Bought what to do, and Bacchetta sent the correct cassette out for free:) The only catch was he was in Van Nuys (about 70 miles away) I made out there OK/
While Andres (The wrench) was installing the cassette, he notice my Rear wheel was out of true. Carlos Had fallen on my wheel, so that's what did that (new to bents and Clipless pedals)
Then he noticed that my brake pads were worn (only 1000 miles so far), so He replaced them)
The whole thing took two hours, so I occupied myself by test riding stuff and fantasizing about spending my settlement.

I am not sure where I got all my energy today... did spin for 60, walk 30 and swim for 60 this morning and then the ride this afternoon!
I did a little over 9 miles today in the rain on the trails at the state park. It was dusk, so I saw a lot of deer. I wanted to test out my new fenders :)
I've already seen an increase in stamina since starting to ride again this past Sunday. It's amazing how quickly you build up at first. I was just happy that I made it out there. This has been a banner week for me :)

Had a very depressing start and later I found out why... I made myself go out even though it LOOKED kinda ugly because the Weather Channel said "cloudy and 0% precip" for the next few hrs. Well, yeah.. guess what happened one hour into my long training ride? Uh huh...thick misty-type precip....
I should have been wearing a jacket, but I thought for sure that it'd clear off. So..when the rain started, I got cold. I don't like riding in the rain anyway..and especially when I don't have to (ie - when I'm not caught in it out on an organized ride). So, unfortunately, I cut it short and headed home. My 50-60miler turned into a petty 25. This isn't boding well for my double century bid in about 6wks.. Bleh.
I just need some sunshine to shake this clouded brain of mine. Any of you gals experience that - esp in a pms-y time? I am having a hard time mustering up any enthusiasm. Cold and wet riding isn't helping the issue.
