Where? And it would be great if you would post a review, since I've been thinking of getting one.
Edit: Oh, yeah, I should have said how great this is! Way better than candy and flowers! I was just so darned excited that I could possibly get a St. Louis area fitting review.
We went for the side by side massage a couple of years ago.
Creepy, if you ask me.
This year, I innocently asked my husband if they made anything like a cheap version of the Garmin I can use, just to track my mileage/time in my attempt to run outside, as it gets warmer.
Yesterday, as we were watching a diamond commercial on TV, I asked what he was doing on my lap top. He said he was ordering my Valentine's present... a Garmin 100 (or whatever the number is).
So, I think a bike fitting is perfect. But, we are going out for dinner at a very authentic Italian place in the North End on Saturday.
Mr and Mrs. Aggie started a tradition of getting pizza four years ago and never looked back! So romantic, so cheap, so stress free. If we bring it home this year I am busting out the china we inherited last summer. We are mountain biking first if my legs will allow after my 8 mile run, I find it healthy and sane.
About the most romantic thing he has ever done is sent me a pajama gram- flannel pajamas! :p Trust me I love flannel pajamas, they were 100x better than the diamond tennis bracelet 2-3 years earlier.
I too would like a Garmin more than a diamond ring.
Me too. Or bib shorts more than lingere. Or a new mountain bike more than a comparably priced piece of jewelry. Or a laptop more than diamonds. :p
Silvers- Valentines should be about celebrating what makes you happy together. Biking is that for you, I think you have a perfect day planned. Then again I am very un-romantic so what do I know?
I asked for new rear cassette for my Orbea. Hubby is putting it on Saturday! I also told him no chocolates or flowers. We are going out to dinner, though. :D
Oh, and Pajama Grams rock!!
Many years ago, I sent my husband a chocolate chip cookie arrangement for Valentine's Day. I was pregnant and sat eagerly awaiting his return home with my 2 year old. He came home empty handed and we were like, "Where's the cookies?" I could almost taste them.
He had eaten a couple and then gave the rest out at work...
He learned his lesson really quickly! Of course, I chalk it up to being young (28 or so).
I like diamonds, but I like sports stuff more. Well, we ride our trainers and both sing out loud to an old Queen cd that our son used to train by.
So far it looks like we've decided to fight instead of celebrate. If we're still fighting on Saturday, I'm off to Sacramento to try and catch the Amgen start. If we're not fighting, I may let him tag along....
Sounds like you all have great Valentine plans.
V-day should be about spending time with those you love, friends, family etc.
I am riding with my friends from Anaheim to San Diego (100 miles). Boyfriend is meeting me in San Diego, we are spending the night. He will probably surf while we are there. When I told the boyfriend I was more excited about the bikeride, he laughed and said that is why he loves me and he wouldn't want it any other way.
On other V-days when I didn't have one, a group of use went for long rides and then had dinner!
Happy V-Day to all.
More innocent victims sucked into the commercial vortex that is "valentines day".
The horror...the horror...
I'm spending Valentine's day with maillotpois' husband.
well now, that's a way to liven things up!
I think a bike ride together sounds awesome. But who needs a stinkin' holiday to do that?
Since it is also our anniversary, we're dinner-n-a-movie-ing. I think Slumdog Millionaire...
For the most part, we don't 'do' Valentines day but I think a side by side bike fitting is a very 'fitting' way to celebrate!
Our very first Valentines day together after we met, we got each other the exact same gift...we'd only known each other 5 months, so it was a little freaky. Ever since then, we don't celebrate with gifts since we can't top that first one even if we tried.
Besides, my birthday is a few days before Valentines and I don't like it to be watered down by a Halmark holiday anyway. :p
(ps - I got sleek, sexy, black...WHEELS for my birthday!)
:D That is a great idea!!! Besides, who says you cant have both. A side-by-side massage sounds pretty appealing after cycling mile & miles.
I know I'm not getting Roses, Chocolate or Jewelry because everything my hubby has mentioned looking at for me is Cycling or Tri related. Maybe I will get clipless pedals & road shoes or signed up for my first ironman? That's plenty romantic to me!
Heh, I sent my ldr honey a box with chocolate AND Gu. For his b-day, I'm going to get him Pro 3 tires to match the new bike he built up. :D For Christmas he got me Ultegra brakes, front and rear!
Sigh. Roadies are SO romantic!!:p
I like the idea of side-by-side fittings. I can't say that a side-by-side massage appeals to me. When I get a massage, I'm looking for therapy, not romance.
My BF is making a nice dinner for me on Saturday. And we got each other "Snuggies" (as seen on TV) for Valentines's Day. I'm thrilled. His house is always freezing! I also got him a Thai cookbook and he got me an immersion blender. We do nice things for one another all the time, so Valentine's Day isn't so much a holiday as it is an excuse to eat more!
Indy- I will be officially jealous of you the rest of the day. I get blankets every year for Christmas from my MIL to combat my cold nature but what I really want is a Snuggie. My birthday is 2/17- I told my husband, my mom, my brother. Come on guys, get me a Snuggie! I even told me co-worker how much I want one and she has been laughing at me for a week.
Since DH doesn't lurk here he is getting Dark Chocolate, maybe a special 6 pack of beer and cycling socks. We can't afford much else this year with that huge vet bill we had and honestly he wants cycling socks and loves Dark Chocolate or new beers. Now if only he gets me a Snuggie- should I PM all of you his email. :p
I would much rather get a professional bike fit for VD than jewelry or candy (and I love chocolate)!
I don't know what I'd do if DH ever gave me a diamond anything - he knows better, anyway. What would I do with real jewelry?? Great for a lot of people, just not me. Skiing/biking stuff is always the best! I'm giving him the Zoot tri running shoes I got him for Christmas, but held back for Valentine's day when he lost his job (cutbacks), and he's giving me a Craft long underwear shirt and an Ibex ski hat.
Actually, a couple of years ago he pretended that he got me diamond earrings or a ring or something for Christmas - right down to wrapping an old ring box which contained a note telling me to go upstairs and look in the closet. I almost cried out of frustration as I was opening it - he really knows not to do anything like that, but still was very convincing. I was sooo relieved when the gift in the closet was a framed photograph that I had fallen in love with at a local gallery! We've joked for years about diamond tennis bracelets and tiaras and things, which is why he did it.
Saturday we're going to do Ski for Heart, which is a fund raiser for a local charity. He and I are aiming for 50km that day (we have 5 hours - maybe 56k, since that would be 2 laps of everything). Some friends will be joining us for 1/2 of it, but we'll definitely be spending the day together doing something fun. Then probably eating and renting movies and crashing out for the rest of the day.
I think the bike fitting is a great idea, Mr S!
I was debating the merits of admitting on this forum that I've told my DH for many, many years that if he gets me anything on V-Day, I'll kill him. The same goes for Mother's Day..I just (scroogishly) call them "Retail Scam Days." :D
But I am open to nice and frivolous gestures throughout the year, just not on the days retailers would like
An then I wonder how hypocritical I could be if there was a National Love A Bike Day..could be pretty dangerous...
What is an immersion blender...as posted by indy...?
Valentine's is not as cost-oriented for us vs. our birthdays and Christmas. Usually a card, small gift and dinner at home.
I even asked my partner not to give me chocolates for V-day (sounds like conquest :p ) ...because I ate enough sweets at Christmas and for my birthday which was end of January.
Since it falls on Saturday and the weather looks good, this Valentine's we will be going for a bike ride together..which is what we do anyway on Saturdays. Homemade dinner of:
smoked salmon in pastille shells with creme fraiche or yogurt cream
gourmet sausages.... (there's a place that sells creative flavours, ie. lemongrass chicken, elk huckleberry, sake chicken, etc.)
roasted beets with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and goat cheese
green salad
ice wine...we've had this bottle for awhile from our favourite winery in B.C. Better get it uncorked before it rots.
We'll be sitting in the truck, driving to Connecticut for VD. Maybe, we'll go out to dinner with my sister and her GF when we get there. Frankly, I'd be happy if we just ordered some pizza and stayed at the house.
What I really, really, want, is for DH to get a job.
:(
Fight is over! (I can be swayed by thai food). We're off to the bicycle races!
I think it's also good to celebrate Valentine's day if you don't have a partner by doing something loving for yourself, or perhaps a sweet gesture for a lonely elderly person or a child you know, or for your pet. Love can be directed towards any deserving creature! :) Valentine's Day is about love and kindness.
I so agree... way toooooo commercial... like you only show appreciation on one day??
However, if we were to "do" Valentine's Day today (yep, its the 14th here right now), then it is completely appropriate that the race scheduled for this afternoon is a Time Trial... his fave race discipline, my fave race discipline... an excellent way to spend the day together...
I received flowers and a new toilet for Valentine's Day.
Love is in the air. :D
