Hey, how much does it hurt to get one?
I just want a small maple leaf & a silver fern..
I wouldn't say it hurts. It's uncomfortable holding still for an extended period of time. It feels like something is scratching you extensively.
Wow- very cool (and very painful looking). :D I like your design. It's very classy and pretty.
I still lust after an IM tattoo, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. It's been 2 years since my IM, and I'm still on the fence.
For me, some of it was pretty darn painful. Mostly the lower part of the flower as that area was sensitive. The outline hurt more than the coloring. For me, on a pain scale of 1-10, I would give it a 8.
But that's just me. My friend got one done around her ankle and didn't flinch once. Nor did she say that it hurt.
If it's a large tat that you want, the pain will be tolerable. It will end. ;)
TriGirl, if you are still on the fence after 2 years, it might not be for you... :p Which is cool. I already have another tat on my back, so it's not like something new for me. But I can't imagine why I could ever get another tattoo in my lifetime. I'm really picky about where I do and do not want one. I like being able to cover it easily.
That's a beautiful design! Congrats!
Beautiful! Very subtle for the IM logo part but definitely can tell it is there, I like it!
I would say it does hurt but not excrutiating. It is more annoying like you want to slap the artist because it is constant tiny prick. Reminds me of the stick with a straight pin only it is done hundreds of times over for about an hour or more! The one on my ankle that crossed bone didn't hurt. The one on my hip with more soft tissue, okay fat, hurt like heck but still tolerable.
Very nice. But OUCH! You all are a lot braver than moi! I am sure I will be the last person on Earth with a non-tatooed body!
Nope, I'll be three with ya, Smilie!
I have a fascination for them, and love to look at others', but I will never get one. I'm too fickle.

Nice paint! I think I will eventually get one...
Nice!!! I like the design.:D:D
That is awesome! You certainly earned it!
That's beautiful... and yes you earned it (I bet getting the tat was not as painful as earning the right to it! :p)
Who designed it?
HA! I honestly think the IM hurt less.
I had a picture in my head of what I wanted. I tried to give the tattoo artist creative reign, but he kept producing stuff I didn't like. I finally pointed to a picture in his album and said "take out the middle and put a M-Dot in there". THEN he got it right.
Beautiful tattoo! I like that it is feminine but tough as f*&^ at the same time.
Very cool KSH! And very original way to use the Mdot.
Congrats again.
No tat's on me, just because I'm so unsure what I would want. I like the idea though, and will likely do SOMETHING someday!
That is one awesome tattoo.
I like that it's unique but still has the M-dot proudly displayed and it's pretty. Very cool!
That's really pretty! I like the colors. I saw the first picture and thought, that's nice, not very big, but you get the point. Then I saw it on your body... a little bigger than I thought and you REALLY get the point. Heck yeah. ;) I see your sherpa is doing his job, too. :D
I have to say, the m-dot is the ONLY thing I've considered putting on my body, but the only places I've thought of putting it are places you wouldn't ever see, except I suppose maybe during a race (back... shoulder...). I suppose I could see doing the ankle thing, even though I wear sandals a lot, I don't when it's something super-official for work. My husband nearly got me to go to this tattoo place in our hotel in Vegas once... but I resisted, just not convinced enough of where to put it.
I wish I'd bought a couple more m-dot magnets and keychains, they are subtle but meaningful. That's how I feel about the tattoo... something that says "Iron woman, darn it" without being over the top.
Way to celebrate!
Well, I didn't think it was that big, but everyone has been saying how big it is. Oh well, it's not where anyone can see it... ever.
I had thought about the shoulder, but hard to cover in a nice dress.
You know, if you really want one... just go do it! :) But it's not for everyone. Which is understood.
There's not much that would induce me to get a tattoo. Going to the Olympics or completing an Ironman is about it. :D Since the first is unlikely to happen and the second is a huge commitment...
Yours is really lovely and marks a tremendous achievement. I really enjoyed reading all your training reports and I'm kind of saddened that it's over. :) You'll just have to do another one.
Veronica
beautiful way to commemorate the accomplishment :)
Congrats again, and I love how the M-Dot is set in the flower. Very cool!
