Georgena - YOU ROCK! I knew there was a reason I love Terry (besides just my bikes)! ;)
Seriously, since I was the one who pointed out that you should have been better prepared, let me say that you have 100% redeemed yourself and your business! I spent years in retail management and because of it, I tend to get overly demanding when it comes to serivce. You guys have met my expectations in the past, so I should have given you the benefit of the doubt this time (I will admit that I was patient enough to get my multiple orders through!).
Thanks for your gracious offer and for answering my question about the return policy for this sale.
It is greatly appreciated! :)
Yeh, TE and Terry are the best aren't they? You get emails from REAL people, yes Susan and Georgena are real people, and I would say that I buy >90% of my cycling products (including bikes- I have a 2005 titanium Isis, 2003 steel s/s coupled Isis, and 2 retired 2001 steel classics) from them. Anybody ever get an email from Giuseppie Nashbar? I hope Susan isn't feeling like she lost a lot of business over this one. Yeh, we used Susan's wonderful size charts to figure out what to order, but in all honesty, I ordered either mostly stuff Susan doesn't stock, like terry specific tires and parts, and the few clothing items were pieces that I already decided were too expensive to ever buy on TE (and are perfect layering pieces for the jacket that I did buy on TE earlier this year).
So please, Georgena, really join our community and participate in our discussions of WOMEN'S CYCLING. Susan has created something really special here.
Oh, I'd also like to say that I love TE, too. :) Seriously, I'm spoiled by this place. I order stuff and it's here before I even hit 'submit'. TE's service is definitely part of the reason I hold other internet retailers to such a high standard!
I don't think my purchases from Terry will change what I buy from TE. TE is my first choice (my first love:p ) and that will never change. With a 50% off sale, it just gave me a reason to stock up on some things I would normally have not bought. I still get caught by the 'featured' products when I log onto here. That page is dangerous...
You know, this seems like it was originally intended as a private sale, which I admit kind of ticks me off since I've been a customer of Terry for years and wasn't included among those who got advance notice. As I said before, that was for the best because I really don't need anything new, although I'd have bought an Exte Ondo jersey I've had my eye on, had I known I could get it for half off. I readily admit to having a case of sour grapes over this, even though fate served me well by keeping me from breaking out the MC or Visa (why the heck don't they accept Amex?). LOL. :(
Makes you wonder if they really intended this to turn into a inadvertent inventory clear out right before the Xmas shopping season really ramps up! I checked their website today and it seems like the pickings are slim at best.
I know what you mean, heck I own four terry bikes, two of which were bought brand new, I subscribe to the e newsletter and I also didn't get invited to the sale. This may very well have backfired on them. Those are a lot of hefty discounts they gave out on stuff, much of which rarely goes on sale.
If they intended to have a "private sale", it probably wasn't the best idea to advertise it loudly on their website the day before the sale started. That's how I found out about it.
I too wonder about the criteria for advance notice. I am not a regular Terry customer but I've placed several orders over the past year... Though I've done some direct mail before (political stuff, not retail) and the decision about exactly who to mail is very calculated and donors are segmented according to multiple parameters. Retail is probably the same, maybe my $100 here or there wasn't enough to make the cut.
Anyhoo, I can't complain too much (unless I find my credit card charged 5 times), because although it was a major hassle I ended up with a whole bunch of Gore stuff that I probably wouldn't have bought otherwise.
Just got a call from Terry and the Bike Cubes were sold out by the time my order was manually processed, no cubes for me. :(
(why the heck don't they accept Amex?). LOL. :(
Because AmEx is twice as expensive for the retailers than other cards. They take 3.5-3.9% of every sale, Visa and Master card only 1.5-2%.
Just got an email from them that they added the item I couldn't get processed on my own. You are right, we shouldn't complain. We got great deals. I ordered an Exte Ondo jersey that I never would have been able to afford at full price, stocked up on tires and bras, and bought a few layers I really needed but couldn't afford to pay full price for. I hope this didn't end up hurting them, it does seem like a big hit to take, but I know nothing about retail. Regardless, you have to give them credit for going out of their way to honor the sale.
This is from the email I received from Terry on Tuesday, so I doubt it was meant to be a private sale (emphasis added):
"Spread the word to all your bike sisters - we've never done anything like this before and it's doubtful we'll get away with it again."
Well, how strange. I just tried to call in my order since my cart kept getting purged last night during the sale. It is 6:13 EST, and I just got home from work. Got a message on their order line stating that they are only open 9-5 Mon-Fri! That is odd to me as I am used to calling to order from LL Bean, Lands End, places like that that are open 24/7 (I think...). So, I guess the order will have to wait until Monday, and I'll have to call during my lunch hour from work. I suspect they'll be sold out of most of the items I was trying to order last night.
So, it wouldn't have done any good to call last night....sigh. :(
