Zodiac sign/bike correlation?

Looks like there aren't many of us Capricorns here! (those stubborn, cynical, sometimes demanding types!)

I have acquired 3 bikes, thanks to my son's summer bike shop employment. Oldest is a 2001 Trek WSD 8000 mountain bike. Then a 2003 Litespeed Capella road bike. Last year I got a Bianchi Axis cyclocross. I like all of them for what they were designed for, but the Bianchi is a love relationship. I often ride on roads where there is a lot of broken pavement, no shoulders, and a trip into the soft sand is too treacherous for me on a road bike's skinny tires. Also great for a mixed road and dirt road ride!

I have another question for comment---should this be a separate thread??
What do "we" feel about lending our bikes to others (friends or friends of friends, etc). As a starter, I will say that I would lend only my mountain bike and even then only in particular circumstances. Bikes are personal!!

I'm not sure I would lend anyone my road bike. I do ride Thom's road bike in the trainer and he says my butt changes his Brooks saddle a bit. :rolleyes: While everything on Fluffy could be replaced, it's the bike that really got me into riding.

I've offered our tandem to various folks over the years. I'd probably let someone borrow my mountain bike. Not sure I'd let anyone borrow my commute bike - it's a 1993 Bridgestone MB 1. I'd wanted one for quite awhile and finally lucked into one in my size. So I feel like it's not as replaceable as some of my other bikes.

Leo here....and I have a full custom mtb frame. She's pink and green and all XTR except the front derailleur and brake levers. I got my first scratch on her last week :(


My road bike is nothing special. It's an older specialized transition but rides great. Very comfortable. Looking to get a new road bike soon, but it won't be as nice as my mountain bike. My heart belongs to my mountain bike.

Nope, nada, no how. I have two mtbs I'll lend in certain, very special circumstances. I have seat height and saddle angle set for me and no one shall touch it. I am very particular in how I care for my bikes and how they are treated so I just don't even want to get into the possibility of dealing with damage. I get the shivers watching people put their bikes on the ground derailleur side down or throwing wheels in the car unprotected or clamping frames in racks. Nobody is allowed to do that to my babies.

I'm a leo with a full custom titanium full suspension mtb. with xtr wheels.
It's hott.:cool: I'm going to go all xtr when the new 06 comes out hopefully.

my road bike (polished specialized dolce) is kind of sexy looking too, but doesn't have the soul of my old one, a pearl white bianchi eros.

So I am as leo as it gets I guess

Heh. Methinks there might be some Capricorn in my chart somewhere... :D

As for the bike lending, I find "oh, you don't want to ride that - it hasn't got proper pedals" works really well for keeping non-riders off my baby. ;)

Im a Scorpio. Not being a big star sign follower I have no idea what character traits that should give me. I have two road bikes and one mountain bike (thats for now but I would like more) - is greedy a Scorpio trait.:eek:

I don't know if this is an Aries or Monkey trait, I'm with SK on the loaning of the bikes. Nobody loans, borrow, rides 'em but me......the one exception is AG who test drove the Mondonico.

But when you're 5'1" or shorter it's required that you try the short bike when one's around. Dayuhm I should have ridden her OCLV around the parking lot, never tried carbon and there it was. Oh well.

I thought of you today, fishdr, when I lined up the wastebaskets in my exam rooms with the edge of the sink. :rolleyes: I cannot tolerate mess or disorder in my work environment. Which is pretty funny, since delivering a baby is a pretty messy event! At home I'm a lot more relaxed (messy). At work though, things are organized, lined up, put away, cleaned up, etc. I just say that I make OCD work for me! :p

I'm a cancer also but don't know if that reflects on my bikes. I do have two but neither one was a budget breaker but both are practical useful bikes that have served me well. One stays attached to the trailer and has always been the family sedan and the other one is purely for exercise use only. I do have fantasies about owning a tandem...what does that mean?

I am very anal about organization in all areas of my life. Nesting?? I don't carry the big diaper bag/purse anymore outfitted with every possible small child need but I do keep a similar type of bag in the trunk of my car for emergency face wipes, tape, scissor's envelopes, etc. etc. etc. A girl has to have her stuff and a child always has a messy face at the most inopportune moments.

Your bikes look great! I bought a Motobecane (from around the 70s) at a flea market for $10. As a project, I want to turn it into a single speed. It sounds fun, and I'd love to hear more about how you paint your bikes. I thought I would probably have to take it to a car repair shop, but I like the look of yours, and I'd rather do it myself anyway. Also, can you recommend any good sites or books on restoring/repairing these old bikes, components and frames. Thanks!

I have a Specialized Dolce~ bought it because it was affordable and well made. hmmm seems like I remember reading caps are born old souls and grow younger as they age I decided to take up riding so I could be carefree like a kid.

Absolutely they are personal! I would never lend out my Gitane and my Bianchi SG. It is extremely unlikely that I would lend out my Bianchi Limited, but I would consider lending out my Kuwahara MTB to the right person. I have a Norco Mountaineer that I keep for guest/lending purposes. For me, lending one of my bikes would be like letting someone else use my toothbrush or some other personal thing! Uh-uh...no way no how.

Thanks :) Wow...you found a Motobecane for $10?! Well done! Do you know what model it is?
If you are reasonably adept with your hands, you should be able to do a good job refinishing your Moto. You can get great quality repro decals for it too.
I don't know any specific books about repainting bicycles (I learned by getting down-and-dirty and doing it myself). It'd probably take up too much space on this forum, so if you want to do it yourself, please feel free to contact me by email and I'll be happy to help you. Or maybe it can be a new thread in the Maintenace Forum? Whatever works is fine with me.
