My hot water heater is not working. I absolutely WILL NOT take a cold shower. Good thing there is a shower at work. Not sure if I need to call a plumber or an electrician.

I have seen Trek's dog slide down the kiddie slide, it's pretty funny!
*** Warning: Verizon Rant ***
Now SKnot's cell is "restricted" (turned off by Verizon). Verizon assured me that my balance shows "0" and that both lines are active. Uhhh, no.
Kids, DON'T get Verizon's "One Bill" service. Heck, DON'T get Verizon at all!

Knott, where'd I put the FCC's e-mail address?
Yes, she's a funny dog.

My back is still bothering me but i don't want to bother anyone about it. The massage helped & perhaps the pilates session tonight might do the trick too. I think i'm sitting in this stupid chair properly...
The dear is back..:D :) & we're discussing the household budget for 07-He knows I wanna go to Canuckland earlier than christmas 07..:)-we will need to sit down and work the finances out..It's a good thing we only visit North America every 3yrs or so with the airfare situation..
Mae & Stinky sound cool...a kangaroo hey..

Hey CC - just got back from Oiltown. I WATCHED the jr's beat those Russkies! Yeah! Also saw BC Place on the news - yikes! How are they gonna fix that?! And have they been having a LOT of wind on the coast or what?! More trees down in Stanley Park. :( Sorry your back is bummed - mine is only just starting to feel better after 6 weeks...
My new claim to fame - future BIL challenged me to take an open oreo, put it on my forehead white side down, and make it "work" it's way down my face to my mouth (usually face muscles only.) I did it! Ta da!
Don't think I can find time to actually read the 4 days of TD posts. Got to go back to work tomorrow... Sigh... See y'all...
PS Yay, BMO, back on bike!

When my parents lived in Santa Rosa their neigbors had a wallabee they had rescued (being neglected at a petting zoo I think). On visits we'd walk to the neighbors to see the wallabee. One day I took Mae and whadya know over the fence there was an inter species moment, the wallabee hopped over and the two touched noses through the fence.
Friends! :D
From then on whenever I visited all I needed to say is "want to see the kangaroo?" and Mae would lead us there, look through the fence and her friend would hop over.
I have some photos but they are not very clear of this because of the growth on the fence.
A few years ago I found out that this beautiful animal had been killed by a loose dog. I wrote the neighbors, sent them copies of the pictures and thanked them because their wallabee was one of Maes first friends and helped her. They sent back a very nice note.
Trek - hah! I thought your new avatar title was "Peets, the redwoods, and bridge TROLLS." Remind me to take you to the Troll in Fremont while you're here. Unless you've seen it already...?
No I don't think I've seen the troll, I looked in Norway and didn't see trolls underneath the bridges there.
Well, us Scandahoovians in the PNW have this fellow to remind us of our ancestral homes...
http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/WASEAtroll.html
Edit: BTW, there is a Peet's in Fremont.
X!!!!! Everyone wants to see your hot new ride!!!!
Letting everyone know I'm still among the living :D
Fun fact o' the day:
Stuart Brother's Coffee aka Seattle's Best Coffee is owned by Starbucks now.
All the more reason to visit Peets ;)
And we have Trolls in CA too, like this one observed climbing in Joshua Tree National Park
www.trollshop.net/trolls/joshua-tree.htm
And don't forget the gargoyle on the Bay Bridge, put there after the Loma Prieta earthquake.
Jeez you two. Just couldn't wait could you? hehe. Ok, ok. Yes I bought a bike today at AG's LBS. But, I had an agreement with BMo3 that I was going to call her so she could talk me out of buying a bike. As you've already read, she did not hold up her end of the bargain. So, I am now the owner of a new mtb.
It is a 2007 Specialized Hardrock Pro 17". Alum frame, hydraulic disc brakes, hardtail, color scheme Raw Distressed. It rained like crazy on the way home so she's already had her first bath. :D I need to get some SPD's for her yet. Oh, she's already shared her name with me... Pounce. She has shown quite an affinity for jumping over and off stuff. So much fun. :D Now she just needs a riding partner to play with. ;)

X - I like the paint scheme! (very "user friendly"!) congrats on the new bike! And I'm glad no-one talked you out of it.:D
just stopping in to admire deb's hammock and x's bike and to let Snap and Jen know
I caught their cold... bleah..
mimi
Well, nice try, but that can't be a true troll. Real trolls turn to stone if they're out in daylight. This one (http://home.hib.no/mediesenter/mytob...kitt.troll.jpg)
has been "stoned" so long he's got trees growing on him. At that stage you can safely camp underneath them, or fish alongside them, or whatever.
On the way to the airport, crossing the river from H@ll to Værnes, there's a bridge with a door in it. We think a troll lives there, but we've never seen it. Apparently it's a smart troll that never goes out in daylight.
X...ohhhh..hydraulic disc brakes...ohhhhh...:D *ahem, drool over*
Sure wish my Scott could visit your Specialized but i'm not paying the  fees the airlines will charge & not sure i want to carry it from a to b to c..etc etc..I'm going to get fat when we go on vacation in north america...:(
When is your first off road ride? What type of trails do you guys have? huh huh..telllll ussss..:D
Deb-you sound like one cool & very mechanically inclined lady..!!!
I would be more than happy to support Peets :D ugh can't stand Starbucks or any other coffee chain...
Kids, Ã*t's a frightening idea flying into the US..fingerprinted & all..
I've been fingerprinted twice- whilst in Japan-once for my alien registration card & once for the police check for my NZ residency application..
have a funky night
c
Trolls, huh? TD is so educational. Never know what you might learn here.
I'll admit to being mechanically inclined. The cool part is continually ruined by hot flashes
X, congrats on the new bike.
Kit, hope you're settled into the new place. Take care.
I forgot something important this weekend. A fellow trail worker was having heart surgery last week and I meant to go visit at the hospital over the weekend. I need to remember to call him today. Hope he's doing all right. And I still haven't made that bike cover for my daughter. But Fedora Core 6 is now running on my computer.
*The Power of TE-TD*
You can suspect you know someone's TE-TD behaviour a little too well when you see they aren't doing their ususal early morning TE stuff, you think they may have forgotten to turn on their alarm, so you call them to wake them up. From hundreds of miles away!
Oh, yeah, the power of the internet!;)
they were on, I slept through both
But the 3rd alarm (cold wet doggie nose) and 4th (phone ring) got me going. I like to be up a couple hours before I have to leave, this morning's a bit rushed ahem. Good morning TE TD .... off to work.
'Morning All,
Geez, you were chatty since Friday. Trek, care to work your magic on Peoplepc for me so I can get on the internet at home????
X - why, what a purdy bike! I know just the race for you (evil laugh). I'll sign you up. Now ladies, just 1 or 2 more of ya and I have myself a team!
Nanci - congrats! Sorry you weren't feeling good but I hope you're all better now.
CWR - glad you made it through ok and the meds are all worked out! Post when you can Hon, I've been thinking about ya!
Off to a meeting, I'll cbl.
***looks around**** Where are we?
ALL RIGHT! WHO CLICKED THIER HEELS WHILE WEARING RUBY SLIPPERS?!?!
We've been moved.......
***runs away***
Quick click your heel three times and say, "there is not place like home".
Did it work?
I guess maybe somebody administrative decided that the forums most popular thread should have a more prominent placement. So we got kicked out of the "closet" so to speak.
Apropos ... Here's a new quotable I learned today: "We tend to meet any new situation by reorganising; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralisation."

X... that bike. Whuff! Hot. Maybe not as much as Miz Cakes, but close. ;)   You need a Brooks for that little wonder of engineering. ;) :D
Hah! Hey, if you want to know some local trails, let me know- I'll hook you up. well... local for here. Hey. Lots of people make considerable drives to their mtb trails of choice. Maybe not that considerable, though. *hmph* ;)
Everyone else- busy weekend. Oh the fun of intrapersonal dialogue and b*tchiness. Life goes on. Right? It goes on? Yeah, I know it does... just... need reminding.
CWR- would you still be available for crutch-assisted shin kickings? I may need some help.
uhoh. They changed it. Now what?
I stayed home today. I feel like #$%^^$ ^$^#$@! drinking liquids and
staying warm.
Cats are good company when you have a cold.
Kit- I have a message from CWR: "I can do crutch assisted shin kickings, but they may come at a higher cost".
Mimi-Sorry you caught my cold. I too am home feeling miserable. :(
Wow, don't we feel important now!
Mimi, hope you're feeling better soon (no riding bike and racking up miles while you're home;) )
Alright. Here's my blonde/brain fart moment of the year. Got a portable dvd player at Best Buy this past summer. While my ds was watching a movie in the car the screen made a pop noise and shut off. I tried everything I could think of to make it work - recharged battery, tried plugging it in the wall, made sure it was on, made sure it wasn't on the video thing to your tv. All to no avail. I couldn't find my receipt but had the box, my cc statement and BB wouldn't help me. So I held onto it for 6 months and returned it after Christmas. Dude from the Geek squad plugs it in, switches button from video to tv setting to the dvd player and viola! It works. I appreciated that he didn't make me feel like an idiot in front of everyone and now my ds can watch movies on his way home from dads. Geesh.
I started a new workout program today and, being the extremist I can be, opted for the strict bodybuilder type diet for the first six days to jump start my weight loss. It consists of split workouts - cardio in the am and cardio/strength at night. Coupled with the 2500 race on bj I will be working out for 7 days a week this week. Oh, and did I mention it's only 1200 calories:eek: I'm predicting a grumpy, slightly dizzy Dar by tomorrow. I emailed them this morning to see how to incorporate my cycling into this workout so I don't kill myself. I am just so frustrated with my weight and need to be in shape this summer so I can enjoy myself. Plus it's a promise I've had to myself for years - to be in the best shape of my life when I turn 40 in August. Now here I sit sadly counting down the next 20 minutes so I can eat my 2 1/4 cups of salad with one tblsp of dressing and 1/2 cup ff cottage cheese:p I want to lose 30 pounds in 18 weeks, so I have the weight off and can eat to sustain longer distances on the bike to prep for the 24 hour race at the end of July. Will you be my cheering section? I'm going to take the dreaded "before" pix tonight...
Survey: 1 in 5 managers read e-mail in the loo
http://www.boston.com/business/ticke..._1_in_5_m.html
"Nearly one in five small business managers read work-related e-mails and other documents while in the bathroom, and 49 percent say they work while driving."

At least Kit has escaped the answering-phone-in-the-bathroom job.
Uh, no:rolleyes: I can honestly say I've never checked with a dr. before starting a workout. But if I start getting dizzy I'll have to add calories. Actually, I'll have to figure out what expenditure the workouts will give me and figure out the deficit. I don't want to lose more than 2-3 pounds a week. I'm no Mike Magnason you know! Anyone know a good way to figure this out??
BMo3 - hope you're feeling better too!
You can log your workouts free online, there are several sites that will estimate your caloric expenditure. The only reason I brought it up is because I easily burn around 900 calories if I do an aerobic workout in the morning and an exercise routine in the evening. That would leave my body with give or take 300 calories-not good, I would lose muscle not fat. :(
Just something to consider. All I want is for you to stay healthy. :)
Dar, honestly, I would be more concerned with the activity level and making sure you have a correct carb/protein balance than watching caloric intake. I'm sure either people will back me up or correct me (open to either...) but the body tends to notice when activity level is greater than the calories consumed and will eventually adjust the entire metabolism (i.e. slow it down!) to adjust so you don't "starve to death". Work on building muscle and your intake of proteins to facilitate this new muscle, and the metabolism will increase as muscle burns fat. It's a more gradual change, but avoids the risk of burnout and metabolic changes.
1200 would be 'alright' for someone totally sedentary, but with any kind of activity level, you need to fuel yourself.
Maintain your blood sugar levels, etc etc. The more you can do without your body feeling 'stressed' the better off you are.
Kit, you stated that much better than me. :p Yep the body will shut down not only the metabolism but will store fat and burn muscle. Not good, in my opinion, but I work on burning fat gaining lean muscle.
Dar, there are some really great discussion about this on the forum. I think they are in the Triathalon section.
Jen-who needs to shed 20 pounds of fat and gain lean muscle in place of the aforementioned fat.:o
Thanks guys. The daily 1200 calories is just for the first week to jump start me and consists of 120 grams of protein, 80 grams of carbs and 45 grams of fat. This lower carb week will hopefully force my body to use stored fat (is that right?). After that I will jump to 1600 cal/day with more of a 40/30/30 split. Anyway, I'm logging it all on beachbody.com but there are errors on their pages for calorie expenditures and body fat sites. Any ideas for other ones?
I am going to have so much gas with all these salads:eek: Good thing you guys are in cyber world, lol!
Dar - a lot of the ladies use FitDay (fitday.com....I think)
mimi and bmo3 - You cannot catch a cold through the internet! It's not my fault! I woke up this morning with no voice....
ediets.com always treated my mom well. For an activity lvl like yours, I'd be more tempted to say 18-2000 calories, actually. Just to be safe. Not sure on the ratios. I know everyones' metabolism's different, but this is just my $.02. At my SOMA job, I'm okay with 2000, and gain weight (just a little) on 3000. When I'm really active, though, I'm okay with 3000... never gone beyond that.
focus on fiber, water, and nutritional supplements to make sure that when cutting back on your diet you're not sacrificing nutrition.
Atkins' is really not that bad, but I don't entirely agree with the protein to carb ratio. don't forego them completely, esp. if you're working out. Lean proteins like tofu, beans, turkey (and ground turkey) etc are good for you. :D
Oh, and complex carbs. Basically, eat like a diabetic is "supposed" to. Everyone should, anyway.... theoretically.
Apropos of nothing...today is our anniversary, 17 years together and I couldn't be happier or feel more blessed (I can't believe she's put up with me for this long ;) ).
