Any idea why my insurance company would pay to lay new carpet in my Living Room, Dining Room, and Family Room, yet refuse to pay for the padding?
How much is padding, dare I ask?

Nah, just took it to the LMS (local Mac shop) they stuffed goo gobs more memory into it, installed new OS .... I still have OS 9 and can run it in the background for some application. But OS 10.2 (not OS 10 which is not compatible with SBC DSL) is waaaay more internet friendly.
Jennifer, no I have no idea.
Have you thought about Pergo or Pergo-like substance instead? I need to do something about the horrific greenish blueish old yucky carpet I have.
Knott, go with your gutt. Mine would tell me to keep the job of course and quietly get the resume out there, do some interviews....nothing going on here people I'm just wearing a suit to work today nothing to see here move along....then options include when not if you get a better offer you could say "I have this offer will you meet or beat it for me to stay?" or "see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya"
You're not the captain so you don't have to go down with the sinking ship and it sounds like some of the rats are leaving to stretch this line way too far.
Good morning TE TD, I'm off to walk the dog now.
What is Apple up to now, 10.4? 10.6? I have OS 10 "Tiger", I think the newer OS 10 is "Jaguar" or "Leopard" or some other big cat and is available soon.
I want an OS 10 "Maine Coon!" :D
Edit: I just poked around and found out that OS 10 "Tiger" is the 10.4. I still want OS 10 "Maine Coon"... naaw, "Six-Toed Maine Coon." Someone get me Steve Jobs' phone #, I need to have a talk with him. :p
Hey, Kit:
Card: The Hermit. Introspection, searching, guidance, solitude
Last Word: Queen of Pentacles. Nurturing, bighearted, down to earth, resourceful, trustworthy
MP, i just read a historical novel about this. I never understood why the Cajuns went all the way from Canada to Louisiana until i read it. and then your website too!
Too much. But it shouldn't surprise us, the British treated the Irish the same way, and then they came here and wiped out the native americans (and we picked up where they left off!)
Did the insurance go with what the cleaners suggested? Maybe they didn't put in the padding cost with the estimate.
Either way, you can probably get away with replacing the padding only where the bad spot was. Padding is very cheap compared to carpet. Just take a small chunk into a local store and have them give you the same thickness and some tape to connect the pieces if you are laying the padding yourself. (Don't use ordinary tape for this.) A lot of times, they have remnants of padding as well as carpets. Lots cheaper.
Obviously if you can get them to kick in for the padding, get the best you can handle in the budget allowed. Contractors put the thinnest stuff they can find under there and all it does is help ruin the carpet quicker. Better padding and a slightly cheaper carpet will look/wear better than the opposite way around for much longer. I'm not saying go out get a knit-your-own-carpet-kit or anything like that. But you can save mucho dinero if you go down a step or two in carpet and up in the padding.
I recarpeted most of my Mom's house a few years ago for xmas. In the living room/dining room areas, I put in a thicker padding that has a waterproof plastic coating on one side (side up) so if the grandkids spill, it only soaks the carpet and can be cleaned up very quickly. I put in thinner, regular padding back the hallways and in the bedrooms because they don't have the same use-frequency and needs.
Just some things to think about. Good luck Jen. :)
Thanks X. We do not have much choice in the carpet. (from one place I have 4 samples). Next place should be here shortly. It must be the same quality (and price) of the one we are replacing. Which I understand. Yes, we could pay the difference if that was an option for us, but those darn kids. :( We need three quotes and so far the two said you do nort lay carpet without padding. One p[lace looked at our padding and laughed, confirming what I thought about it as well. Time will tell.
Don't you tease me AG. I'm gonna hold you guys to it! OK, it's in my planner, will firm up as we get closer:D I couldn't think of a better bday present than you gals at that race!
BMo3 - X hit it on the head with the padding. Hopefully it will all be done soon so you can enjoy that new carpet smell!
Knot - sounds logical from a company perspective, but I like Trek's idea on getting the resume updated and start looking if you're that nervous or unhappy there. Of course, she's probably hoping you'll find something closer to her, so hey, there's an opportunity!
Knot- Thank you for that reading. It seems pretty right-on, actually.
BMo3- I 2nd X on the padding thing.
Today's lookin' up! Maybe I should have an impromptu TE moving party this Saturday! (Then again, maybe not. I probably own enough little things that I'd rather people not know about! )
The song for today is.... Beautiful Day by U2. Among others. I don't have time to look for a proper one right now...
and "To Love Someone" by Janis Joplin... God I love Janis. Whatta voice. :D
Ok, back to work. ;)
The Boston Globe is putting out an optimistic slant today. It passed by 12 votes (needed only 25%). As of tomorrow, 7 of those votes are gone due to elections. So just need to change 5 votes by later this year or early next when they vote again. There was a 2/3 majority against the ban. I'm figuring that all the legislature needs to do is pass a law saying that they will issue no marriage licenses unless they can issue them to everyone equally.
I have no heat in my house this morning for some reason. The thermostat is set for 22 but it's only 16. Better today than tomorrow when I'm gone to Edmonton for 4 days. Cross your fingers that it's nothing that can't be fixed today.
I still have OS 3.9 I'd like to upgrade but don't want to spend any money.

Dar, I'm not teasing, I've never been to WI...it'd be cool. Let me know the dates and I'll be there. I'll even vounteer at the race (I don't think you'd want me on your team...I'm a sucky MTBiker). Do they have speed dating at that martini bar?
Hey MP, I'm of Acadian descent also! My ancestors arrived in South Louisiana in 1767 and have been there ever since. Although I've been a resident of Georgia for the past 21 years, I consider it a "temporary inconvenience" which I intend to rectify the day DH retires (he's a native Atlantan). Don't get me wrong -- Georgia is a beautiful place, but my heart and my roots are farther south and west.
Have you ever been to Grande Pre in Nova Scotia? It was a very moving experience for me. Really made me appreciate my heritage even more.

You're on! The weekend is July 28-29 and here's the race link:http://www.24-9.com/. We camp out for the weekend in tents but there is a hotel within 10 miles. I live a half hour away. X, Kit, BMo3,CWR - anyone want to ride in the race with me? I'm not that good myself, Lord knows I can't stay healthy on a mtb and I've never ridden the trails at night, but heck, that's what goals are for, right? We can have 4-5 riders and do either 12 or 24 hour. PM me if anyone is interested. Or we can do a co-ed team....
BM03 - why is pad not an option? It's realitively cheap if memory serves me. Or is it because there wasn't any pad under the original carpet? Maybe that's it....
Off to take a quick walk outside. I see that funny yellow thing too and need to soak some of it up!
cc - i would love to come down and visit while your here if i can.
kit - congrats. i'll come to the party too. i'm sure i'll be a little drugged so no recording what i say.
i leave today to go into town for surgery. its at noon on friday. i'm getting nervous. didn't sleep much last night. soon to have one foot down (no pun intended) and another to go.
Wow. Really interesting! My mother's family came from France in the 1600's, settled in Canada and then got booted out. Some went to Louisiana, but most of my mother's family only went as far as northern Maine. I honestly don't have as much of the story as I'd like, as I'm just getting to know my mother (I'm adopted - this is my birth mom whom I only met in person last year).
I haven't been to Grande Pre - what is it? Nova Scotia sounds great. I really want to go there - now I have even more of a reason.
It's a small world, isn't it? Grand Pre is in the Annapolis Valley area of Nova Scotia, near Wolfville. Here is a link to the park website:

I love, love, love Nova Scotia!

I generally enjoy hyperbolic statements and exaggeration for the sake of a good story, but I'm NOT kidding about this one:
I just spent 2 hours on the phone and talked to 10 different people at Verizon to get a messed up bill corrected.
I'm exhausted. Need a beer. (that's hyperbole;) )
coffee and nachos, then off to do all the things I should've been doing for the last 2 hrs. (paying more bills, wish me luck)
Oh Knott...I believe it because I went through it last March...and April...and May...until they finally got the problem permanently corrected. Good luck. :(
Sounds as though we are having similar days. After spending the entire day with adjusters and carpet reps (the insurance co required 3 faxed in, btw they reps were from the only 3 places the insurance co will allow us to go), we will be getting carpet in 2-3 weeks. :) Padding will be included after all 3 companies pointed out to the insurance company the flaw in their thinking.
Now, I can finally shower  , just in time for dinner. Thank goodness for pony tails! :p
I might end up switching, cuz Verizon has not been enjoyable. Certainly not terribly efficient.
They are the only land-line provider for my area, though, so I'm kinda stuck.
off to pay rent and get some groceries. Maybe I'll get that beer, too....;)
Dar: The dates a permantly inked in my calendar. I like to camp.
CWR: Hope all goes well (((hugs)))
BMo3: Sounds like things are finally looking up.
Hey, are all you TD'ers actually working or somethin? It's kind a quiet here.
Here's another example of stupidity on NZ roads..16yr old driving...

Am off to visit a travel agent after work to check out airfares etc to Van...just not via the USA if i can avoid it. You see, quite a few flights from Perth go via LA & i've heard nothing but horror stories about customs there..Perhaps a few SF ladies might see me if it's too expensive to fly via Singapore, KL or Osaka...
Am pondering the idea of the F1 race in Indy or Montreal. BM I would still love to meet you though..Lise would be close by too!!!
c
hey canuck,
that's no good on the accident, but luckily it sounded like minor injuries that will be healed by the time the IM comes.
I looked around at the headlines of your paper. So, what's the party pills story all about? With a title like this: 'Pensioners among West Coast party pill poppers' how could I resist? Is this a real ongoing issue?
And boo to the penguin killers.
Dar - Hey now. I guess I better go out and start looking at mountain bikes cuz I think I just got volunteered to go to Wisconsin for a race. Did I read that right ladies? Hmmmm. Um, er. **thinking, thinking... steam coming out of the ears** Yeah, ok. I hear Specialized Rockhoppers are good. AG, hook me up with your LBS, k? :D Ok Dar, I'll see what I can do about getting that time off. Is it just over a weekend? Or do I need more days than that? I may have to fly. Where the heck is Wisconsin anyway? :p
So now, who else is coming?? (Ya know, I may have to consider moving out west further just for the great rides.)
BMo3 - well, at least things are getting done and now it's just a matter of time.
Knot - I have cingular and I so far had no problems worth mentioning. Good coverage and the rollover minutes have really come handy lately.
((((((CWR)))))) So glad you made it to Anchorage safe and sound. :D
Kit - I see congratulations are in order. So, when's the housewarming party? I better be invited sis. ;)
Well, bedtime for X. Catch y'all tomorrow. :)
CC, what's with that crazy WA weather?
I #$%^$$% hate Verizon!
Remember the fun time I spent on the phone for 2 hrs? Well, an hour ago Verizon shut down my cell phone and sent me an email that they were shutting down my internet because my internet has never been paid since I first signed up for it.
Uhh, no....
Kids, if any of you have Verizon ***DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT*** opt for their Easy-Pay One Consolidated Bill plan. You will pay one big juicy bill every month with your Internet, Cell, and Landline all itemized on it and totalled up for your convenience; and then Verizon Internet and Cell will say they have never been paid!
They will waste your time as you straighten things out and overpay this, that, and the other (with promises they will credit you the extra you've paid on your next bill, or maybe the next one after that...) and then they will shut off your service anyway.
Thank gawd my beloved works for a (rival) phone co. I sent her a desperate TE message, and she called me on my landline (which doesn't have long distance so I couldn't call her) and listened to me bawl and snurfle into the phone. (Thank you, honey!)
Tomorrow is another day. Instead of eating b'fast I will be on the phone again with 10 or 15 of Verizon's Finest, trying to straighten out their scr*w up.
AT+T and Cingular, kids.... AT+T and Cingular. Tell 'em a Verizon Victim sent ya.
well, not saying we never blow it here at big mega telco, and I do works with some idiots*, I've seen some doozies.
Even done some of those orders myself :)
Like when I moved some poor guys phone service from his current address BACK TO THE SAME ADDRESS he was moving from.
But ya know what? Even brand spankin' new rep I fixed the problem, made it right, adjusted the charges apologized up down and sideways. 'cause that's what you do.
The last time I checked my job's still called customer service.
From the sound of things they: violated tarrifs and procedures in the first place, gave her wrong information then promised adjustments to correct that and did_not_do_them, the left had doesn't know what the right hand is doing, nobodys making proper notes, pending claims or follow up, nobody is doing what they say they are gonna do...and ...1 simple call from their left hand to their right hand makes this d&*^ whole thing go away.
Nobody is doing there f'ing job there.
TE TD, I'm gonna be sorry I said this but you have a question about your phone service or what to do, PM me before you call.
I told Knott when her service is back up this whole thing needs to be reported to
http://www.fcc.gov
*hope none of my managers are on TE
Tygab-i think alot of folks rely on the party pills in order to stay awake at thier jobs....sad but true. Especially the folks who drive road trains-Who in thier right mind could drive from Perth to Sydney in 24-48hrs without caffiene etc...!!!
Penguin killers... The penguin colony at St Kilda is actually a major tourist attraction and i'm sure the folks who take care of the little creaturs are mighty upset!
Salsa-i think the temps have changed due to the tropical cyclone in the northern bit of WA...Heaps of weather warnings for the far north, goldfields & southern areas....http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/wa/
It's a relief in a way..but can i have 30c again please.
I'll post my next q here and on my indy500 thread-have any of you flown with Northwest Airlines? Please let me know if it's  or :) There's a cheap flight with Qantas/nw airlines-Perth-tokyo-seattle-van. I trust you ladies to tell me the truth...
The travel agent says I have to wait for Sinagpore airlines to advertise thier new fares before deciding whether to go that route...
CWR-hope the foot heals well. Take care k..:)
Off to find 80's videos i haven't seen in ages on Youtube...
c
(((((((CWR))))))))-Glad you are safely in Anchorage.
Knot-I am sorry you are going through all this. I just switched to Cingular. So far so good. :)
CC- I spent 20+ years flying nothing but Northwest Airlines, dating back to when it was Northwest Orient Airlines. No complaints. :D
(((((((((((((((Dar))))))))))))))))))))))
Well TDers, if these fans are not removed soon I shall have permanent hearling loss. Service Master comes again today to be certain everything is dry.
Next year, we are going with an artificial tree. Any suggestions?
Bikingmomof3, take care of your ears, can you get earplugs? Hearing loss is nothing to kid about. Once those little hair things in your ears are gone they're gone. Ask me about it. Oh, you did? I ddn't hear you.
X, Bmomo3, looks like a lot of us have Cingular, hey! Mobile to mobile! To be fair I've seen some billing fiascos of this sort even with us so I keep the Cingular bill seperate from the POTS line, DSL and Dish. but I've been happy with the service.
(((((((((((((((Dar)))))))))))))))))))))) and TE TD in general including anyone I failed to mention thus far especially the penguins
Morning TD. I'm heading to Edmonton today to visit the future inlaws. Be back Sunday night. Have a good weekend!
I am trying. Hopefully the fans et al, will be removed in 40 minutes, not that I am keeping track or anything. ;)
I joined Cingular becasue I hated my other plan. We had to call every month about some billing problem or another and X has Cingular. Mobile to mobile ios awesome. :) And if X has it, it must be good.
Me too. It is so noisy I cannot concentrate-plus I have not had my share of coffee.
