AG - Happy Birthday Girl!! Have an excellant vacation. Glad to hear the match date went well. You'll have to fill me in on what speed dating is when you get back.
KG - CONGRATS!!! Way to go on the update (very cute btw!). You'll have to give us more details....I love listening to love stories.
CWR - have a great vacation as well! Sounds like the dr appt went well. Keep us posted on the surgery.
Trek - thanks for sharing Kathy's memorial ride with us. How very touching. Sounds like a wonderful group of people were there for support. Could you just mail out cute guy for Christmas??
Lise - sorry I missed you last night. Hopefully we can hook up later.
Well I didn't make it to the singles dance Sat night. I drove to Madison to see my friend. Talked to his sister the day before to make sure he would be taking visitors. Talked to him the morning of. Both said ok. Drove down to see him and his mom wouldn't let me stop by! (6 hour round trip mind you!). I'm a little peeved about it all. I know he had major surgery but that's why I called. It's not like I was from town and popping in. I know I need to let it go but it is bothering me a bit. And not a thank you from either on making the trip or hey, we appreciate you driving down here. Nothing.
My car was acting up a bit on the way down (almost at 200,000 miles and it needs a couple thousand of work). So I stopped at the Honda dealer - and bought a used Pilot! At least my trip wasn't wasted:D I'll be heading back down there on Thursday to pick it up - I'm so excited (except for the car payment - not used to those at all!). Merry Christmas to me......of course, this means I have to quit shopping for bike gear and gadgets:(
mtb, (those are my initials) so you bought a car?!? that's not as cool as a bike,
but congrats anyway. I would have been pretty upset if i had to drive 6 hours for nothing !
allez happy bday fellow Saggitarius lady! (we're supposed to be the
best athletes)
Mimi, I was within 5 miles of his house when his mom called and told me "they'd pass" on my visiting. WTF?! I realize she was just being a mom and doing what was best for her baby - he did have heart surgery. But they knew I was coming and I thought it would have been nice to have known before driving down. So he called last night and I didn't answer. I know it's not his fault - he's still looped on pain killers, but I didn't want to say anything I shouldn't.
Hey it's a PILOT! This is my dream 4-wheeled vehicle! I may really enjoy driving in the snow this winter with all wheel drive. I feel safer transporting my priceless freight now (ds). And as soon as I get it home, my TE window cling will go in the back window:D
owww, cop guy just emailed me. Haven't heard from since since before Tgiving so I thought he'd blown me off to. At least not yet then, lol.
Trek, just kidding, lol. The vehicle is a Honda Pilot, my bike is a Trek (but not a Pilot).
Cops. My dad is a retired one, my uncle was the sheriff, my brother is one my cousin is a state trooper and my ex was one (he is no longer one). I'm used to the lifestyle and personality. I think a bigger issue is that they see things more black and white than most people - can be more judgemental than controlling. So far from his personality, not like the others but his hobbies are - working on houses. He wasn't online because he was trying to finish building his garage before the snow came. But that's no excuse not to talk to me:D
Did you guys see that the Phillipines got hit with a bad typhoon and mudslides? Where in the Phillipines is CWR heading?
Dar - welcome back to the wonderful world of car payments. I haven't had one in 4 years. I'm not looking forward to the first installment. I just got a Jeep Wrangler, old car had 160,000 mi on her. Was gonna need extensive work as well. She was great for all those years though. No complaints.
As for CWR, I don't know the PI well, so I need to go home and look up where she is in relation to the slides. I may just try calling her cell later tonight anyway unless Kit manages to get some info on her first. I'll admit, I'm a bit worried too but I'm sure she's just fine.
mimi - yup, I'm that old. :p Actually, I love almost every kind of music there is. (not rap) My favorites are classic rock (60's and 70's) and blues but I grew up with 50's rock.
My cousin Maury, a real great guy and ultra cyclist was very touched by TE expressions of support for Kathy.
There's a chance he'll log in and visit TE just to say thanks to you gals.
Let's give him a TE howdy when he arrives!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALLEZGIRL!!!!
Another mouse down Addy's hatch! And this time, she opened her mouth by herself!
Nanci
Way to go Addy!! :)
Hippy Hoppy Happy Birthday!
Tonight's dinner is beef and mushroom stew. Two big ol' steak things and 1 1/2 pounds of mushrooms, simmering away with bay leaves and rosemary all day.
Smells pretty darn good.
Knot,
May I come over for dinner? It sounds delicious. :)
I am going to try Knot's chicken stew again tomorrow. Cross your fingers that the power gods are good to me. :)
Dinner at my house! We'll have custard with shaved Scharffen Berger chocolate on top for dessert. Someone bring the beer/wine and we'll make it into a party! Hooray! Monday is over, and we're 1/5 through the work-week!
I'll make carrot sticks, too. We can each eat a carrot stick and feel virtuous... :p
Happy B-Day, Allez! Annnnnd Maaaaaannnnnyyyyyyyy Morrrrrrrrree~
X- I'll certainly chat with you tonight. Felt sorta iffy all day. Dunno if it's 'just me' or what. Blah.
Knot, you can do what T.G.I. Friday's does and bread the carrot and fry it. Only the restaurant did it with green beans. And many was it good. (I only had a couple to taste; someone had to do it.)
Re: cars. Yeah, I gotta get serious about saving for a replacement. My car's been absolutely unreliable, and I've spent so much on repairs. Hopefully I can save enough before the next big repair hits, but that means I have to stop spending on bike stuff. :D
Enjoy the new Pilot!
My weight's been all over the place the last couple days, so not sure what tomorrow's weigh-in will bring. Sunday I was up two pounds, then today only up a quarter-pound, so probably I stayed the same or lost just a tad. I'm not so worried about it though because my pants are starting to fall off, so I know my body's getting slimmer.
Well, I gotta run to bed; tomorrow's a swimming morning.
I'm getting low on Scharffen Berger chocolate. Gonna have to make a run down to Berkeley CA to get some more! Maybe I'll go next week... :D
Yay for Addy! Yay for Knot's culinary skills! Yay for AG's bday! Yay for OTG's pants falling off! (well, you know what I mean).
I am really frustrated. I had one credit card on auto-pay. I paid it off. They keep taking my $300 every month. I thought I'd solved the problem last month, when I got my $300 refund, and "cancelled" the auto pay. Today I get a statement with another $300 credit. Argh. It is next to impossible to get a person to talk to me about it.
My cat (Ariel), has a new obsession. I used "skin shield" on the many nicks and papercuts I get on my hands, especially in the winter. The danged cat can smell freshly applied Skin Shield from across the apartment, and jumps up on the desk to sniff my hands until she finds the place it was applied, and then tries to lick it all off. Just now she did that as I was typing, and bit the spot when she found it! At that point she was dumped on the floor. It's kind of cute to have her sniffing all over my hands, but I can't imagine it does her little pea brain any good to lick Skin Shield. Kind of like sniffing glue for kitties?
Aggravating staff meeting tonight--tough things to talk about--money and scheduling. I finally decided that this headache is a migraine, and took some Maxalt. My migraines are nothing like BM3's, I'm grateful to report. Now I'm going to bed. Also grateful for a really quiet call shift. Sleep tight, TD.
Ug, tomorrow I start the application process for grad school: jump thru this hoop, jump thru that hoop, dig out these records, send those records, write this essay, get three reference letters, have anxiety fit over this detail, bust out in tears over that detail, tear out some hair, try to explain coherently and concisely and convincingly why a 40 year-old single mom with no money should be allowed to be one of the 1 in 4 who make it into the program...
whine. And I already ate the last of my chocolate!
Nope. Library school. Wanna go back to what I did for 10 years, but wanna be a science or medical librarian.
No visitors from CA, but I'm going back down for a week next Tuesday! :D
Evening TD. Been busy having the "we've decided to get married" chat with my 8 yo son. He took it well and is excited. Wants to be a part of the ceremony. I suggested holding the rings, he would rather be the minister...
DAR - congrats on the new car. I'd like a 4 WD but will be content with my FWD for now. Too bad about the 6 hour trip. I'd have been tempted to say, well I just drove three hours so I'm going to make a quick stop to give him a hug and say hello... Hope you're feeling better by the time you read this. We've had lots of tummy flu going around here. Glad I'm done with it.
Allezgirl - Happy Birthday. Depending on what time zone you're in, this may be a day late. :) How old are ya?
I was thinking about CWR and the typhoon ever since I heard about it. Guess it's just a good thing she didn't go a couple of days earlier..
X - we must be about the same age because we like the same music...
Nanci - so glad to hear Addy is starting to eat! I take it the first mouse stayed down/ How often will she eat once she's "regular"?
Knot - did you put any liquid in that beef and mushroom crockpot? I've been reading about cooking meat without any liquid and can't quite fathom it. Good luck with your application!
OTG - isn't it amazing how much your weight can fluctuate even in one day?
Dar - here's the Cole's notes version.
DH and I have sort of known each other for about 15 years. We used to live about 1/2 mile from each other when we were both married to other people and our kids went to school together although not in the same grades. His wife actually did some work with my husband at one time. Then for the past 5 years, we've worked together at the same school although we never really "noticed" one another at all. He was divorced but in a fairly long-term relationship and I was unhappily married. Two years ago, in fall, I had just separated and he had just split up with girlfriend the previous spring. He was trying to get the staff to go out to do stuff since he was alone a lot and I was looking for something to keep my mind off being alone too. We started to notice each other a little and started to email as well as talk more at work. We had always sat together at the same table for lunch anyway. We emailed a lot about music and our philosophies of life. I think the email really helped us to open up in a way that may never have happened otherwise, and I have kept all the emails just for fun becasue you can really see how the relationshiop was developing. Then for fun, he invited me to be his date to the staff Christmas party and I thought it would be an easy first date since I had no designs on him. One thing led to another and we started dating more seriously. Unfortunately some people didn't even know I was separated then so it became a bit of the "talk" of the town but we didn't hide anything since we had no reason to. All the kids and teachers thought it was pretty interesting that these two teachers were dating especially since we live in the same community as our school and we run into kids everywhere we go. Last summer we moved in together and then this weekend, he proposed. It's all been very romantic and fun and we really didn't talk much about marriage before now because I really wanted to wait to be properly asked this time round. Anyway, I truly think we were meant to be together, our paths have crossed so many times but the time has never been right. He really is my soul mate and we think alike on so many issues that it makes life easier. Of course, we both understand what is truly important in life now and we know how to keep the love alive I think. We're more romantic and affectionate and in love now than we were a year ago, and I doubt it'll ever really change all that much.
OK that was longer than Cole's notes, I know. :D :D
Med/science librarian--cool idea.
Gooooooooooooooddddd Addy.
I REALLY love the "take a drink of water and spell my name backwards before I swallow it" hiccup remedy. I am going to dribble and drool huge quantities of water all over myself when I try that, and I find it so amusing that I AM going to try it.
Dar, I would have been upset too.
Just for a little variety from work, I would like someone to pay me to stay in bed tomorrow with a good book. Thank you.
I think I am going to keep Addy on the young snake five day schedule with Inez and Choco. Zee had been fed every week- but he's small- but North American Hognoses are prone to fatty liver disease from over feeding- I don't know if this has been reported in South American Hognoses- they are very distantly related...I think stick to one week just to be safe. Maizey is on 10-14 days.
Knot- you always make the best dinners...Good luck with library school. I have a friend who does that- it sounds like a lot of work. But she gets to travel a lot to conferences!
KG- when I make my 20 garlic chicken in the crockpot- (chicken, garlic stuffed all over it, it lays on a bed of sliced onions) there's no water added but it's in an inch of juice when done...
I bought two pork loins yesterday- hope it's warm enough to grill tonight or tomorrow. I covered my flowers, but it only got to 37F. Supposed to be near freezing tonight again.
Nanci
Just wanted to be the first to say...
H A P P Y
B I R T H D A Y

Have a wonderful day hon.

Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before. -Mae West
Good news, TD! I got up and called Evil Bank of the Empire straight away this morning. I persisted even when it sounded like the "too many options" computer had hung up on me. I insisted on getting a phone number when clueless person #1 wanted to transfer me, 'cuz the last time they transferred me directly into Dial Tone Land. I got Ann on the phone. Ann got Jill on the phone. Jill actually seemed to know what she was doing. Jill assured me that she's stopped my auto pay and is (again) refunding the $300 they helped themselves to. I wanted to say, "Now, if I had 300 of your dollars, you'd be charging me 29% percent interest, I see here on the statement. Are you going to pay me 29% interest since you took $300 from me on 11/18? Hmmmm?" But I didn't push it. I just want the madness to stop. I feel better, because I've budgeted so carefully and couldn't figure out why my balance got so low last payperiod (I thought this was a different auto pay). Phew.
Migraine all gone. I tend to try other things--Tylenol, Motrin, rubbing my neck, drinking some caffeine--before I think, "this could be a migraine", and take the Maxalt. Then, 1/2 hr later, when the pain is all gone, and I feel slightly dizzy, I realize, "yep. Definitely a migraine." I love that medicine.
KG, I love your story, and am delighted to hear of your impending nuptuals!
Knot, congrats on getting started! You're right, you've described the whole process pretty well. I am encouraged for the human race that 4 people apply for every one position in library school.
Windows covered with frost. Computer says it's 11 degrees out. Think I won't try running today. I will walk (well bundled) to the el later and go downtown to have lunch with J. :D
And Happy Birthday, Kitsune!
Happy Birthday to You! cha, cha, cha
Happy Birthday to You! cha, cha, cha
Happy Birthday Dear Kit
Happy Birthday to You! cha, cha, cha
'Morning TD. It was a balmy -1.5 degrees this morning:eek: Umm, brrrrrr!
Happy Birthday Kit! So what are your bday plans for the day?
I got 4 Christmas cards yesterday - that made my day:p
KG - thanks for sharing your story:p You two sound so happy. I'm glad your son is also happy with it, I know it's hard when they aren't on the same page. Keep us posted on the wedding plans!
Knot, good luck with grad school apps. You'll get in - just cook them a meal and hand deliver it with the application. In like Flynn I say!
Still not feeling the best this morning but at least no hurling. The boss is out sick today though. I asked the cleaning guy to lysol everything down last night but no one else listens to me around here:o
OTG - I finally lost a pound, hehe. Got to start somewhere cuz you motivate me. Awesome that your pants are falling down - isn't that a great feeling?!
My car is officially possessed (actually, it must have electrical shorts). My interior lights, brake lights and dash lights flash periodically when they want too. I hope I don't get pulled over for it cuz that would be hard to explain.
Happy birthday Kitsune! 22 going on 45.....
'darby: sounds like what my car did shortly before the alternator died.
KG- I really enjoyed reading the details and I am so happy for you! I loved your son wanting to be the minister. :D
Knot-Soon, you will be in CA. :) I know you will be accepted into the masters Library programme. WHo would nto want you?
Nanci-I am so happy Addy gets to stay. I am quite fond of her.
(((Lise)))-feel better. Migraines are not fun. :( Running in the cold does help them. I luuuuuuve running in the cold. Wenbt out lst night and the crisp cold air and wind was delightful. :)
(((Dar)))-feel better. Lots of fluids and plenty of rest.
:D Thank you, ladies!
B-day plans are as follows:
As a surprise gesture, my prev. manager took me out to dinner last night. We ended up chatting for around 3 hours. Lots of fun. :D
Got home, and waited for DGF b/c she'd be home soon at that point. got my 1st b-day present at midnight-- windblock, fuzzy, insulated pants so I can wear 'em on my commute! :D
then sleep... but since it's a full moon, I woke up, totally awake a few times. Oh well.
DGF is meeting me at 12:15ish for lunch @ work, taking me to go have sushi (whee!) and meet my new mgr...
Not sure about this evening, but I'm sure I'll manage something spontaneous and fun. :D Or quiet and relaxing. :) either way. Oh, and this evening I get to pick Miz Cakes up from the shop; presumably a whole new bike after all the work that's being done. What a deal!
Hugs to all you TD ladies, just in case I don't get back on here today~!
I'm gonna puke. Or cry. Or both.
I took the GRE back in the early 90's. I studied my butt off, I got fabulous scores. (better than a certain physics PhD i know) Put them away in a file box. Lost the file box somewhere in the basement where I used to live. Someone found that file box recently. I asked her to send me my scores. She hates me so much she shredded them instead.
I figured no problem, I'll just have the scores sent directly to the grad school.
Called GRE this morning. Nope. They purge all scores after 5 years. I have to retake the test. That'll be about 6 months.
I'm not applying to grad school this year.
Better luck in 2008.... damm.
(silver lining: I won't be stressing about my apps while I'm on vacation next week.:o )
(silver lining #2: I can bust my butt to save some money and find cheaper housing, too.)
(silver lining #3: I can justify buying a pair of running tights AND a new pair of running shoes, cuz now I need retail therapy. Right?)
Happy birthday, Kit!
MtD: Sorry to second that, but yes, that is exactly what my car did before the alternator died. The WORST part was when it started doing that, I took it to the dealer to get fixed. Dealer couldn't find ANYthing wrong. Three days later, I'm stranded on the side of the road at 1:30 a.m. because I was coming home from work (nights at the time). It takes a good 2 hours to get a tow at that time of night. I was so mad.
But congrats on the weight loss! That's awesome work.
I'm peeved because I just had a fight with two co-workers over a comma in an important document. Sure, let's not ask the person who does this for a living. Let's just completely ignore every rule and add them willy nilly. Like, it's, so, great, to keep, using, commas, all, the, time. Sorry. I'm a little testy.
Happy Birthday Kit!!!!!!
