100 km, 100 degrees!
Did my first metric century today - totally unplanned! It was hot, hot, hot (95-100 degrees). I don't handle the heat well and I wasn't even sure if I wanted to go for a ride so I said we'd would just have to take it easy and play it by ear. Somehow, we just ended up about 50 km away from home, and of course we had to get home... :) I was slower than usual, especially on the hills, but we took a few breaks and waded in one of the lakes to cool off. Got home (after that darn 2 km 8% hill at the end) and my odometer only read 97 km so I forced myself ride around the neighbourhood for another 3 km before I came in.
Glad I put on sunscreen before I left because I got pretty burned - I'm lazy that way - hate the stuff but my daughter nags me if I don't. Soaked my head at several gas stations but was still too hot. I think this is what I'll be in for this summer unless I try REALLY hard to get up early and head about before 8am. (We didn't leave until 11 this morning...)
Did a nice 25 km ride last night after the heat had subsided a little - down on the greenway along the creek - got home about 9:30 pm, nice thing about living this far north - it's still light out... :)
