Report From the Road
2006-14-06 08:00 EDT
Team 404 - Team Cyclonauts - had a support vehicle back out onto the road and run into their own rider just before Time Station 2! The rider sustained minor injuries and had to go to the hospital to get checked out. As of 8:00 a.m. on June 14th, the team is still on their way to Atlantic City.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mitch when we worked SAG togther at a local club ride this year. Super nice guy!
the person hit by his own support vehicle was homey!

OK, I just got off the phone with Maggie. Larry "ZMan" has checked in to TS#4 Blythe, CA at 9:23 AM and the rest of the team is getting ready for a team meeting.
Bernie "Homey" Barge was involved in the accident last night and has been released from the hospital. Crew members are bringing Bernie and his bike to Blythe and there will be a team meeting. He has been released by the doctor and a decision will be made as to if he will continue.
The rest of the team are currently still on the rotation and riding towards TS#5 in Hope, AZ
I have no new updates as of right now, but I will let everyone know when I do. I'm on my vacation this week so I'm going out for a bit of a ride myself again, I'm carrying my cell phone and a notepad for updates while I'm out. If I get something that needs reporting before I get home, I'll stop at the local library to post updates likely first at bikejournal.com then later here and the blog site.

Wow I cannot imagine doing the RAAM, that would be awesome! I think I'm rooting for all of them, it must be the thrill of a lifetime to finish, let alone win or place!
OMG! I'm glad to hear Bernie was released from the hospital... please do update whether or not he can continue...
cali- where did you find this update? I went onto their site and the only thing I could find is the post about "they're off!" but nothing else??? where is the info on the race? clearly I'm looking in the wrong place...
mary had posted it at bikejournal..... and i posted it here before she had a chance to get over here to post it! she's their official poster!
maybe she can post a link to the blog she's keeping in this thread.... in the meantime... i think they do have links to a picture site and blog at bikejournal (there's a link to the forum thread on the main page!)

Oh my gosh! I just learned about RAAM this past week. :p
I ran into one of the many organizers for the event over the past weekend. He invited me to the send offf parade that occured on Sunday. I wrote about the parade on the June 11 ride report. It was a blast!

I never did go for that ride, but I've been busy translating my blogs from one code to another plus trying to keep up on the websites for updates.
Last I heard from Maggie, Homey had not caught up with the team yet. They are doing 3 man exchanges until that time and the decision is made as to if he will ride or not. He WANTS to continue in the race Whatta Trouper.
I never dreamed how much work would be going in to this when I volunteered and all I've got to do is try to keep track of phone calls and information online. I can only imagine the mental fatigue on the road with this. I will try to keep updates coming. The link at the top of this post is the updated Blog from Team Cyclonauts forum.
It's nearly 5pm and too late to head out for a ride [may try for trainer at least later] but I do have over 100 miles in the past 2 days myself so no slacker if I don't get to ride, just want to enjoy what vacation time I have left and weather is going downhill after today. :(
Unfortunately the weather is supposed to get Hot, Hazy and Humid with chances of storms just in time for the Teams to come through Indianapolis, Peachy...
OK.... so i'm confused (not hard to do)....
homey got hit... and went to the hospital....
the rest of the team (3 members?) kept going.... now don't they ride one at a time? tag team? so the 3 are tag teaming? (relay?)
so when you say homey hasn't caught up... is he RIDING his BIKE???? or in a vehicle?
Sorry for the confusion, it's getting confusing sometimes on this end as well :eek:Quote:

That put the team into a 2 man exchange rotation (yes they are relaying). At one point then a vehicle transported team member #3 to catch up with the rest of the crew while they were still in Blythe, CA at TS #4, the accident happened just before TS #2 in Salton City, CA.
When the third rider arrived the team then went into a 3 man exchange rotation and at last report they were still watching for the vehicle bringing Homey and his bike to catch up with the rest of the team. I may not hear anything for a while since they were approaching TS #6 at Congress, AZ and I've been told the reception is sketchy at best in that area.
Homey says he wants to ride, but the rest of the team hadn't SEEN his injuries so the decision hasn't to my knowledge been made yet to as if he WILL ride.
Does that help some?
