Knot- The bra arrived and I am so excited. :D It is pouring down rain, yet I still want to go take it for a test run. :) Thank You!! I have yet to try it on, my first action was to come directly to the computer to let you know it arrived safely. Okay, off to give it a go.
Ah, good, you got the bra.
(that means I probably mailed The Letter to the right person...;) )
Bear in mind it is a little old, so a new one in the same size L would probably be snugger. Be sure to let me know if you like it! Susan O said TE would be carrying them. (there are different styles)
Trey! I love it. (get it? ... three legs ... trey ... :p ) I was picturing a cat missing a back leg, sort of half-ruddered, not able to swim very straight. Plus the whole get me the hell out of the water aspect of a swimming cat.
Salsa--so sorry about your TOE! I say charge the contractor. Sort of his fault, right?
KN--what can I tell ya? I don't recommend the four years of stunned celibacy I went through after my big break up. Blech. Have some fun. You're free! :D
UGH!
I hate my internet connection. Just when I need it most (and most figure I'll have it) it goes down and out on me. SO that's why I'm first here this late (otherwise I would've annoyed everyone much earlier...)
KN- Watch out! Sometimes the rebound relationship that starts on the best intentions turns out to be a sweet ltr. Lookit me. I find a cute chica at the fair, and waddaya know, she's still stuck with me and happy about it! a year later.
CWR- Nothing like biking on a hangover. I think the last time I tried, I was puking sake in the mulch on campus when xdh decided to 'race' me to work. Ungh. (Yes, I know it's crass to drink that much sake. No, I won't do it again.)
Yeah. I sure did. If I paid *that much* for something, it's staying down. So I only sicken myself on stuff other people bought. ;)
Doves o' the Day
1. Follow your instincts.
2. Smile before bed. You'll sleep better.
Off to Costco to try to figure out how to buy groceries without using any money...
I WANT my email.
I WANT to see J.
I WANT to be home without having to travel home.
What was that about instant gratification? :p
Clothes in the drier waiting to be packed, everything else is ready to go, cab coming at 8:30 AM. With the miracle of time zones, I'll be in my fair city by 11:30 AM. Home again, home again, higglety-pig.
I had a great day here in DC. Saw mom off, ate b'fast, took the bus down to Dupont Circle, picked up my phone charger from the hotel I stayed at Friday night (whoops--glad I was still in town!). Went to my favorite bead shop, Bedazzled, shopped. Went to a meeting, ran into someone who got sober the same year I did ('84) back in Chi-town! What a treat. Ate a sandwich in front of the new statue honoring Mahatma Ghandi. Appreciated the irony. Went to my favorite museum, The Phillips Collection, but they were CLOSED (every Monday)! So I hopped on the metro, and zipped down to the Nat'l Gallery to visit the Rothkos and Clyfford Stills there (I know I'm misspelling his name). Man, is the Metro easier to use than the El in Chicago. Walked up to the Library of Congress, which I'd never visited before. It is magnificent. They have an exhibit up of a work in progress, an illustrated manuscript of the Bible, commissioned by St. John's University. It is breathtaking. Some of the illustrated pages brought me to tears. The magestic words, calliographed, with the gorgeous, rich paintings that are almost tapestries. No flat image can ever do them justice. The exhibit's up 'til December, so if you're in DC, you must go to the Library of Congress and check it out. This link shows my favorite of the pages I saw: http://www.saintjohnsbible.org/why/overview.htm
Now I've eaten tasty leftovers, walked both dogs, done the laundry, packed, and am ready to crash. Sleep tight, TD!
Hey Ladies!
I'm trying to catch up with TD and the rest. Not having so much luck with that! We had internet up the other day and then the computer wigged out. Now - we have a new one. We're still swimming in boxes, but the kitchen is unpacked! Only 2 more days till the fridge arrives. That will be a good day.
I'm still working on a new name and avatar. Any other suggestions?
FishJr is having a really tough time with the move. She was fine at first, now she's making herself sick. When she gets the least bit stressed - lunch comes back up. Not good. I started work today (it's going to be great btw) and she was fine most of the day, but tonight was bad. She promises to be better tomorrow. She misses her friends. We have her room almost unpacked - I think that's helping. Yeesh. Fishfry on the other hand is oblivious and apparently going through a growth spirt - he is eating everything in sight! Look out!
Wish me luck wading through the posts. See you soon! I may never catch up - I go out of town next week for a training course (lubbock, tx).
Beelzebub? Sorry, not very helpful, but the only "bee" word I could think of. :p
Our very own Biking Beeotch. ;)
No no no, I know, it wouldn't 'fit' but it was all I could think of. I fail. :o
KnottedYet "(all the same, I'd rather take advantage of the exemption clause)"
yes there in chapter 5 "if previous GF has left you alone for over 2 years go directly past the rebound relationship. But only after passing the multiple choice quiz on our hidden agenda with a score of 85% or above"
Lise I believe that was something like "I'm an American I want my instant gratification and I want it now"
Dove chocolate fortunes:
wink at someone driving past today.
remember your first everything.
I won't look for better fortunes because I didn't spin today ;-)
It seems nicer than the typical "Tripod".
That is a lesson I should learn. Come to think of it, the sickest I have gotten off alcohol has always been when others bought. Maybe I should stay away from the free drinks, they always ruin the next day.
Anyone heading to Lubbock will need luck. I must find the picture of the Shetland Pony in a truck taken in Lubbock. People just aren't right up there. <<Sorry to our Lubbock members, I am an Aggie.>>
Welcome home, Fish. Fishbee? Beegirl?
Does FishJr have something she can take care of, like a pet? Sometimes it's such a nice distraction, to have to care about something like that. How is Roux, by the way? Maybe FishJr could do some special stuff to help Roux adjust to the move...
Lise, those museums are SO great. I looked at the St. John's link you posted and that work looks to be exquisite. I could never stand living there but man, what a great place to visit. The temptation to charge the contractor for my toe is significant, even though he had nothing to do with it. I cringe now when I drive past other remodels. I have remodel PTSD except that it isn't even P yet, so to speak.
Knot, let us know if you figured out the groceries/money trick. And if not, did you at least have fun at Costco?
Sorry I'm kinda not firing on all cylinders tonight. But, here's a couple off the top of my head to get ya started...
Beetle Bailey (funny comic but somehow doesn't fit)
Aunt Bee (um, doubt she ever road a bike, always had a pie in her hand)
Spelling Bee (too much pressure and who needs that)
Quilting Bee (yeah, you're right, no time to sew)
let it bee, let it bee... (ode de Beatles, just cause I'm still in love with John L. )
Bumble Bee (actually that sounds more like me)
Queen Bee (hmmm... kinda has a ring to it, oops - it was just my telephone)
Honey Bee (I'm sure you're sweet, but that may be pushing it just a tad)
Bee Bop (nah, sounds like you're smacking them around and then the animal activists will be after you)
BeeGee (I'm sure that would be a copyright infringement of some sort)
Bee Sting (aw, you wouldn't dare)
CBGB's (closed this w/e, may it RIP **sniffle**)
Busy Bee (yup, gots possibilities)
-X.
Honey Bee?
Its late. Thats all I got.
Did someone already call that one and I overlooked it??
Its late................
I like that bit about our hidden agenda.
The hidden agenda that keeps Popoki Nui's (sp?) bike from going as fast as it should given the effort, and the same agenda that comes out with umpteen thousand page handbooks.
Page 1984 has a header that says "Car Repair- look down. If you wear steel toed boots on a regular basis- not for work- you are required to read this section. You'll probably even like it! If not, skip to page 3006- How to Get Girls to Fix Your Car"
I'm tired, gimme a break. ;)
Wow, a semi decent day at work. At least there were no flamingly stupid questions from staff. They seem to be tippy toeing around me....hmmm wonder why?
Friends and I went to the Renaissance Faire this weekend. Ann and I fell in love about every five minutes. Too many really pretty boys; it was overwhelming. Hope this link works:
Faire
I've discovered I like Mead. Whoda thunk it. I bought myself a Tibetan bowl. You tap it with a dowel, then while it's ringing, swirl the dowel around the outside of the bowl. The sound it makes is amazing.
Oh, Snap, mead is FANTASTIC! People tend to make it too dry, but when they know what they're doing and stop fermentation just before all the sugars have been digested, it makes for a such a sweet, flavorful drink. Mmmm.
And Mead is a delightful morning drink.......:p
Mead, good stuff.
Hot buttered rum, good stuff for the weather we're having right now. Nice before bed.
Those are about the only sweet drinks I like. Oh, and Drambuie and Frangelico and Whidbeys, but those only in *very* small doses!
I feel pretty bad now that I know I missed out on Jaeger with opiates in it. =P
Canadians, is Absinthe really worth it? Not sure why it's illegal in the US, but anything made with wormwood raises an eyebrow for me...
Ah, Mead. How I love thee. We have a ren faire about 10 miles away at the Mount Hope Winery. http://www.parenfaire.com I try to go every year. They make a Honey Mead that just does it for me. Bad thing is I'm a rather cheap date so that can be bad. I can be talked into just about anything when I've been drinking. I got pulled put of the crowd and dressed up as a wench one year and put into a play. It was great fun but oh the blackmail-caliber pics that my GF's got. Total debauchery going on up there. All in fun. ;)
They have a wonderful Merlot that is just... sensual. This year they added an ice wine. Very nice, very nice.
**As I longingly look at my wine rack hanging from the ceiling and think, "No, it's too late now, time to go to bed, you idiot!**
Coming on here can be very therapeutic at the end of the day. This was a worse than usual day and you've all helped me get it off my mind for a while. Thanks! But, alas, I can't sleep. I apologize ahead of time for bumming you out. Just need to let it out. Warning: Now would be the time to bump to the next post.
I lost a friend early today in an industrial accident at the printing company where I used to work before I changed careers. Unfortunately, he died in a very horrible, painful way. Joe was a nice guy. Never did anyone any harm. Now he's gone. :(
I was on the emer. med. team while there (boy did we get paged a lot) and saw too many bad things happen to people who were forced to rush way beyond what was safe. A major reason I wanted to leave. Very stressful place. Very sad situation. Heart attacks and strokes on the job are common. :(
Those tough guys on the presses don't ever cry but I had 2 call me today and cry over the phone when telling me what went down. They tried to save him and couldn't. (BTW, the safety switch was deliberately bypassed.) I was very outspoken about these kinds of things while there, much to my own professional peril.
What's worse, in the end, the company won't give a flying sh*t and nothing will change. They'll get fined by OSHA and then keep doing it. AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
Ok, I'm done now. Tired of thinking. Thanks for the vent opportunity. Sorry for the downer. Peace and love to you all tonight. Be safe!
'night TE.
Cindy
orange jouce and peach fodka. Very VERY good
Xrayted...
I'll write you better later, but I know how it is, working with emergency responder staff... You see more than you'd like, and there's always the fear of seeing someone you *know* needing said assistance.
I give my sincerest condolences for your friend, knowing how it is with htose large companies who treat fines as operating expenses. it's shameful. Bastards. I'm sorry... *shakes head*
Xrayted - how awful!
I'm sorry about your friend, X. That's one nice thing about a college town- not many industrial accidents to deal with. When I was in Minneapolis- well, I know what you mean.
Fish, I think you should leave your name. Because you will have to rename the fry too!
Did I miss some rule, and it is OK to drink mead for breakfast? Because it's made from honey and you can put honey on cereal and you eat cereal in the morning?? I love mead, too. And ice wine.
Last night I drank a relatively cheap Riesling. I think I am pretty over Riesling.
I got a note from a girl I ride brevets with- she crashed in front of a logging truck at night on the first day (of a 1000k up in the penninsula) and couldn't unclip and everyone ran over to sotp the truck and another truck came and had to run off the road...Still she rode a little the next day and 60 miles Sunday, but she's afraid to ride t night now...
Oh, X/Cindy, I am so sorry. The safety switch deliberately bypassed? Sounds like a lawsuit from his family, unless they'd say it was *his* fault...how tragic. Thinking of you, and all involved, today.
I wasn't done drifting...
So my friend's ok, just shook up. That bent has never been her friend, as far as I can tell. They don't love each other.
I got my freaking PERIOD last night, at 3:30 AM- I haven't had it in, oh, four years? But I was off Depo for a year, and have just had one shot after starting up again, so it apparently doesn't have things suppressed! Cripes, it was like "Carrie" or something. Nice. I don't know how people who get it all the time can stand it!!
My two days of AC-less wonder are over- we're back up to the 90's today and tomorrow. But then back down to 80 again! It only got down to 67F last night.
Maizey didn't eat yesterday. I think her meal might have smelled like urine- I've heard they don't like that. I need to buy a bar of Ivory soap to wash her food off with.
Choco is still in hiding. I couldn't find him yesterday, but wanted to check, so I looked from underneath his viv and couldn't see him, and then opened it up and got out his moist hide, and felt all over in it, and he wasn't in there, so I go to put it back, and there he is in plain sight- he'd been coiled up underneath the hide...I miss him- I wish he'd hurry up and shed. We're watching the 6th season of Oz right now, and Choco has missed three episodes already!
We had a kid at work yesterday with no arms. She could draw with her feet- color in the lines! I gave her a sticker book and a ton of stickers, and yes, she could do that, too. How cool and lucky.
Nanci, meant to say sorry about your friend, too. I'm impressed when people are able to start riding again after an accident like that.
I'm sure Choco misses you, too.
The guy giving a tour at the Library of Congress yesterday had no arms! What a challenge. Whew.
I am *SO GLAD* that I don't get my period. What an enormous, painful mess that was for so many years. Plus the mood swings, enhanced by the fact of all the pain. I don't think I'll even try going off the Nuva ring until I'm 50 (to see if I would still get a period or if I were in menopause). Since all my women kin have had hysts in their late 30s, no one has any idea when "we" go through the Change. Hoping soon for you. After her hyst, my mom bought a new mattress to celebrate. Never bleed on it again.
(There, that should have driven away any male lurkers! :p )
Off to the airport! :D
Sorry to hear that Fish, my family moved so often when I was a kid that my brother and I ended up going to 14 different schools BEFORE high school. I was more like Fishfry and had no problems with it, my brother, on the other hand, was just like FishJr and got physically ill whenever we moved. If it's any consolation it did pass within a month or so, he told me later that it really helped that I tried to help him ease into our new social settings (school, scouts, sports) by meeting people first and then introducing him. It took the pressure off of him to speak/interact first.
Remember the Cornsnake costume contest? I voted for Paris hilton with Tinkerbell (Tinkerbell is a baby mouse in a purse...)
(((xrayted))) I'm so sorry.
Knot- First of all, we shall not let you cave and go back to her. You did the right thing and the perfect woman is out there just waiting for you.
My life in Knot's bra. That did not sound right. Warning, you may find out more about me than you care to know...I need much more support. I am without perk. The bra fits nicely, a little loose, but that would be from use. It looks fabulous on and I will definitely use it for cycling, but for running I need an under wire or three. Gravity has not been kind.
Inquiring minds want to know, did you discover the secret to shopping without money?
Kitsune- enjoy a drink for me. I have not been able to even have wine for a long, long time. I hate medication!
Lise-you are most likely on a plane as I type this. Your brother's wedding and reception sounded splendid. I am glad you had time to tour DC. I have never been to DC, so I truly enjoyed the tour you gave us.
So when will you being seeing J next?
Fishdr- do not change your name. We like you just how you are, although there have been some interesting suggestions.
I am sorry Fishjr is taking the move so hard. She will be better in a few weeks, probably less. How is Roux?
Snap-I am happy to hear you had a semi-decent day at work. So, you discovered mead. Enjoy!
((((Xrayted))))- I am so sorry to hear about the tragic death of your friend Joe. Prayers are being said for his friends and family.
Nanci-I was saddened to hear about your friends accident. I am so glad she was not injured more severely. Hopefully Maizey will eat today and Choco will be able to watch TV with you again soon. I am sure he misses you as much as you miss him.
