Proud Mama Moment
The BF and I recently adopted a dog. He's very sweet and very smart. He doesn't have strong signals to let us know when he needs to go out. He hasn't had an accident in the house since the first week we brought him home but BF and I are outside a lot during the day and he goes out with us. So he doesn't really have to let us know when he has to go, he gets plenty of opportunity.
But sometimes, especially in the evening if we're doing computer work or entertaining, he will do some things that will indicate that he needs to go out but they aren't obvious. You really have to be paying attention. So a friend of ours told us about a trick, you teach the dog to ring some jingle bells that hang from the door knob before he goes out each time.
BF and I have been consistently getting our dog to "touch"/ring the bells before we go out for about 1 week. Tonight he rang the bells while I was on the computer working. Sure enough, he needed to go out.:D:D:D
I know it's not a big deal, but I really am a very proud dog mama right now.:o:cool:

He is adorable! And such a smart boy.
Chloe spins when she really needs to go out. Yeah, my dog is weird.

What a smart boy! He looks so chill in that second picture.

Oh, good for him! He's adorable and you absolutely should be proud of his quick learning skills!
We are going to have to employ the same technique once we move. Right now, the dogs have free access to outside through a dog door into a fenced part of our yard. In the new house, we will be without such a door so the puppy will have to learn to alert us. The old dogs know how to ask for what they want (hopefully, they'll remember!) but Sara is used to just following their lead or doing whatever she wants. She drinks and pees way more than they do too, so it'll be interesting.

Hooray for you and your new baby!
I, too, have small wind chimes next to the door that Zack touches with his nose to signal, "Gotta go!" He knew the word "touch" so it was fairly simple.

He looks like a mini brindle lab except that he has long legs and a very narrow waist. He's tiny, only 25 lbs. My last dog was 130 lbs.

Beautiful dog! And SUCH a good boy.
