Things that have made your day lately!

I just wanted to share about something that made my day today. Normally I ride in the evenings with my guy, but I haven't ridden since Sunday due to laziness, feeling unwell and other commitments. Tonight my guy was off doing his swim training for the triathalon coming up and I went for a ride by myself (sooo nice to be alone sometimes, seriously.) to a local coffee shop in our "downtown". I had one of their delicious gingerbread cookies and after resting a bit I started to head home. At an intersection that has a long light that bikes don't trigger, the light turned green when I was about 500 feet away. I stood up to sprint intent on not missing the light and powered through the intersection. As I was standing and whizzing by the traffic stopped in the opposite direction, some guy in a truck whistled at me. Now, normally, I find that kind of offensive, but tonight I was feeling strong and powerful and it actually made me laugh and smile a whole lot!! Nothing like busting your chops and cruising through an intersection at 25mph to have someone think you look hot on your bike! It seriously made my day.

So what has made y'alls days lately? :D

The salesman from the car dealership called tonight to let me know that my new car has arrived a week early! I'm so stoked. Picking it up on Saturday. That has made my day, night, and rest of the year :D

Holding the door open for someone and they actually said "thank you!"

I had to get DD a present for this weekend but we are on a tight budget, as usual. So I got her a hoola-hoop. This morning DD crawled into bed with me and out of the blue, said that she really, really wants a hoola-hoop. :):):)

I was in and out of the DMV to renew my driver's license in 15 minutes!!!!

And this weekend I get to bike around the bay in Traverse City with the kiddos!

This is a good life.

Oh gosh, I just thought of this.

The other day I was biking on my mountain bike and towing DS in the burley trailer. We were approaching a hill, my favorite hill. It's the last one on the way home. About 300 feet from the base, a roadie went flying past us. I put my head down and hammered on the pedals to pick up momentum going into the hill. I didn't look up until we reached the top. . . . and guess what!?!? I was right on Mr. Roadie's wheel!!! Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! I didn't even think that was possible. I will forever have the astonished look on his face when he looked back and saw me right there. :cool:

I have like 25 personal days to use up. I'm taking today as a vacation day. So there may be a LOT of posting from me today :rolleyes:

One of my relatives has been on radiation therapy for the last 6 weeks and they are finished. That news made my day!

Went for a ride this morning with my OH - that in itself was enough to make my day, our older niece is staying with us just now so we were able to head out without kids, a rare treat! But even better, the time I've been spending on my bike has obviously helped as he was struggling and I found it just a nice steady ride to stretch my legs and start the day. I'm overweight and he's not, so it's always a boost to realize that my fitness level is better than his :)

It's kind of gross because she's a dog, but after my ride this morning my four month old Basset, MudFlap, jumped in the bathtub with me. I had already showered off but wanted to soak for a few and the little stinker came up to the side of the tub and jackrabbited her droopy-eared behind right in my bath water. Good Lord, I love that dog. She can't even jump on the sofa yet but she managed to get in my tub. Hahahahaha

I made the best of the situation and gave her a good scrubbing so she will smell nice for beer night at our favorite bar.

Some teenager said hey baby to me when I was walking my dog. It's funny on 2 counts because he'd be embarrassed if he knew I was old enough to be his mother, and that maybe he was more interested in my dog? A very handsome dog at that.

My husband. I was single and fiercely independent for so long, that it's taken me a while to get used to the idea that there's this person in my life. Who loves and supports me. A lot.

I spent the better part of Monday having some medical tests done. Because I didn't really need DH to go with me, I had to convince myself that it was okay to want him there for support (what a novel idea, huh?). My tests in total didn't actually take that long, so we otherwise just got to spend some quality time together.

It was a lovely day.

So I work in a pediatric hospital and do pain management. I was consulted for a family for a child still with post-op pain and not well controlled. I really minimally tweaked the medication regimen but she has had a much better day. I think really most was attitude and timing for her, but they think I did something special. Glad they all had a better day! And makes me feel a bit like I do make a difference (somedays at work we don't feel that way!)

So, I regularly play a lot of tennis and if you think cyclist can be snooty about other cyclists, try tennis players - I've never seen more A type people outside a men's road racing category 3 race!

Anyway, I had a great experience. Went down to Tucson to visit my parents and my sister for the weekend. Took my racquet and some balls to practice my serve on Saturday morning early at 6:30. As I was walking off the court and down the row of other courts, three men asked me if I would like to play with this since their 4th did not show.

I almost didn't say yes cause I thought i might be in over my head, but instead just thought I would go for it. Figured I could bow out if they were really much better than I am. Low and behold, I held my ground, hit great shots and pushed the boys at net. They were really nice guys, great cameraderie (sp?) and I was very competitive with them! Wow, I have impoved lately. It made me feel great, they had a good time, and asked me back when I'm going to be back in town visiting. What a nice and pleasurable experience!

This is me to a T, Indy. I'm trying very hard in my current relationship but it is sometimes hard to want to have someone there for you when for a long time you've relied on yourself and done just fine. Have any secrets for getting to that point? ;)

I don't know of I have any real secret. It's more about practice. As for stuff around the house, I've gotten better at asking for help, although quite honestly, I wish he was better at taking a bit more initiative. He's always willing to help when I ask and takes care of things like mowing without prompting, but other stuff--like getting dinner together if I'm running late, not so much.

It's really the emotional stuff that's more of a challenge for me anyway. I try to remember to let my guard down more. I don't have to grin and bear as much as I used to. It helps that we have certain routines that provide a good time for some emotional intimacy. It also helps if you're with someone--and I hope you are--that you trust to be supportive and loving. Even good guys sometimes miss the mark, but when they're pretty dependable, it helps you lean on them a bit more.

Communication is key, too. I have to remember to tell him what I need or want. I struggled with that when we first moved in together. I was trying really hard to keep everything running smoothly around the house and leaving him out of my to do list. I felt like I needed to do it all myself (I'm the planner in our relationship), and that was just unrealistic. So, for a while, we had weekly strategy seesions, until some of it became more routine.

Good luck with your relationship. Just remember that just because you CAN do it on your own, doesn't mean you HAVE to.
