I just read this term in another thread. What does that mean?
To use a high (hard) gear and "mash" down on the pedals to get them to turn - the opposite of "spinning" which is using a low (easy) gear and allowing the pedals to spin freely and quickly.
Ok, that makes sense. Is mashing a bad thing? It seems like it might be hard on the knees.

Mashing is a very southern term! When you get in an elevator here you ask someone to "mash" the number you need. Before moving here - I only "mashed" potatoes.
