Hey, I need some new songs to grove to while I am riding. What do you all have in your headphones? I have been digging Shakira's new CD, "She Wolf" for a while and now I am board.

I don't wear an iPod when I ride. I would really like to, because certain music will definitely make me ride faster and harder, but I'm just too paranoid to do it. I like to be able to hear others on the trail (my music would drown out a bear bell), and more importantly, hear rattlesnakes. Seems like everywhere I ride has them. Just because you can see them on the trail doesn't mean they aren't there, right next to you as you ride by within striking distance. Fortunately I've only heard them, but have yet to have an encounter. I've only seen sweet natured garter snakes.
IF I used headphones, I would put loud, angry stompy music on it! LOL :D ;)
I totally agree, having ears while you are riding is critical. I ride with only one ear bud and I keep the volume just to where I can hear the song enough to keep in my head, but not so loud I cannot hear animals or other riders. As I have said in the past, I am the rider pulling way off to the side to let others pass.
I encounter a rattler just about every time I head out, last ride was the biggest I have ever seen. The Hub and I came barreling around a corner and there it was spread out right in the middle of the track, Hub was in front and came to a screeching halt, had to turn his bike sideways, only about 2-3 ft away from the snake! He kicked up a big cloud of dirt when he stopped, I thought that would freak out the snake, but it didn't. The snake raised it's head a little, looked at us, then slithered off the track. I never ever ride without a snake bike kit in my pack.
"Loud and Stompy", I like that, I think some Rage Against The Machine will do the trick. Thanks! :)
I like to listen to drum and bass music. London Elektricity, Danny Byrd etc...
Although, embarassingly enough, I have been listening to Owl City when riding. Very relaxing! :D
I do the same. This has been a hot subject of some debate in my household this season. Yes, we argue about the really important issues of the day over out dinner table;) I prefer to break up my playlists into uphill and downhill since we live in an area where you're primarily doing one or the other. Uphill is more mellow, Melissa Ethridge, Modest Mouse, Pinback, and No Doubt are current favorites. Downhill is faster and louder, depending on my mood I'll go with either some Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake, or classic Madonna or if I'm in feeling a bit more tough I'll listen to Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, or Alice in Chains.
For really technical trails I'll listen to folk music, often Ani Difranco.
My partner listens to surf rock and jazz, the really eclectic jazz that lacks a melody. I would probably enjoy the surf rock but don't want to admit that all
his music isn't noise!
If you've been liking the Shakira, try the Black Eyed Peas, good stuff.:D
I like Skillet.
