Hey, everybody!

I haven't been around lately because I've got a second job with a women's sports magazine as their webmaster. They are sending a free issue to anyone who wants to sign up for one and I thought some of you might be interested. (Hope this isn't too advertising-like for the boards!)

It's not exclusively cycing (drat!) but it's got alot of practical stuff for anyone who likes to spend time outside. Here's the bit that appeared in InMotion365, which is an e-newsletter specifically for the Colorado area:

Free Issue of Women’s Adventure Magazine - No fad diets, just fresh air! Tucked in this magazine’s pages you'll find adventure, travel, sports, and health updates. Join readers (women who live life to its fullest) and find adventure and inspiration in every issue.

And the link to sign up is: https://www.kable.com/pub/ddln/suball_freeoption.asp?src=CQIM

Although I haven't been around here much lately, I have been riding and adding my miles over at BikeJournal-Team Estrogen. I think we're going to blow through our mileage goal by the end of September!!! I just can't believe summer has flown by so fast! :D

That IS weird. I'll let them know the field is too small. Thanks, gals!

I signed up too! I hope the magazine does well- so many women's sports magazines have failed - despite having good content.

Used to be Dandelion, right?

I liked it a few years ago, but it's too watered down for me now.

Maybe you can get it back to being juicy and exciting! And put some more biking stuff into it!

Get those folks HOPPING again! (just put a little bug in their ears, just for me, ok?)

Edit: I still get the magazine subscription, but I just glance through it and then take it to work and donate it to the waiting room. And I "borrow" the waiting room's copy of Bicycling.

I'm a subscriber also, I've enjoy the articles but agree that it needs to be more in depth. For example, the article on women's bikes in the May issue just skimmed the surface on bike fit and bike models.

There used to be a magazine called "Woman's Sports and Fitness" that was great. There was an issue on womens gear that reviewed Road bikes, mtn bikes, hiking gear, inline skates, tents, sleeping bags, etc. There was a feature on riding your first century etc. One issue had a Bicycle Buyer's Bible that was 12 pgs of bike information. Many of the issues were "keepers" and excellent reference guides, I've kept some of them even though the products are now outdated.

I miss that magazine because I learned so much and would love to see another one like it.

Unfortunately, it was bought out by Conde Nast and they ruined it. It became a glitzy New York mag and I dropped my subscription.

Thanks for the feedback!!

The founder of Women's Adventure used to be a staff member at Women's Sports & Fitness before the CondeNast takeover. She has plans to grow the range of content in Women's Adventure as the staff grows (we're a shoe-string operation right now!). :)

I used to LOOOOVE Women's Sports and Fitness!!! Oh, that was such a great magazine! I was depressed when that one got bought and they changed it.

Dandelion was a little like WS and F for a while.

i signed up too, and all i have ever gotten from them is a bill which i threw away.
(I'm not paying for a free issue before i even see it!)

phew! i feel a bit better now that i'm not the only one. i tend to think i'm a bit crazy at times.

I also loved WSF and was very sad when it went away. It was the only women's fitness magazine that wasn't fluffy and obsessed with diet and weight and sex.

And I also got a bill for a magazine I never received...

Yep me too. I signed up for the free issue, never got it, and received a bill warning me that I needed to pay to renew before my subscription ran out! (HUH?) I sent them an email the other day telling them I sure would like to check out their magazine, but I am NOT going to pay for it sight unseen! If they promised a free issue, I want it before I pay!

I'm glad I didn't sign up for a free issue! Thought about it, but don't have time to read my Bicycling and Backpacker magazines as it is - I spend too much time hanging out here! :D

Wow! Sorry about this girls - I will contact our subscription service (which is independent of the magazine) and let them know about this. I'm sure you will all be getting your free issue but it's pretty bad when you get a bill first! :o

We really are nice, honest!

Okay, if I dare to show my avatar around here again...:o

The circulation editor said:

We publish bimonthly and mail out subscription notices on a monthly schedule. (All of this happens from our mail house.) So we attempt to the best of our ability but sometime they do not sync. In this case the renewal notices are mailed out 1st class mail and the publications go out periodical rate which is slower. So that is why this happened. I want to reasure you that it is not intentional just something that we do not have much control over. If the USPS could guarantee us a different timing that would be very helpful, but no such luck! Once again I would like to let you know that you should have your copy of the magazine shortly, and please disregard any further notices if you do not wish to subscribe.

Hopefully, you've all gotten your free issues or will get them very soon! Thanks again for giving the mag a try.

Gosh, I just feel awful you guys are having to wait so long! The next issue is coming out at the beginning of March. If you're so inclined, call the subscription service (Kable 1-800-746-3390) and let them know you never got your gift copy of Women's Adventure Magazine. They should be able to send something out to you asap.

If you're interested in reading some of the articles online, you can see them at http://www.womensadventuremagazine.com/archive.html.

Our brand new circulation director (be gentle with her!) was very concerned when I told her about this. If you want to contact her directly instead of contacting our "mail house" she's Gina at circulation@ womensadventuremagazine.com.
