From my struggling in the neighborhood earlier this week, I have progressed a lot. I am easily riding five miles and I feel like I am ready to double that. My average speed has picked up considerably and I am beginning to understand cadence and rhythm on the bike. It isn't necessary to stop and rest anymore. I am feeling pretty motivated- I had a slight hangover this morning from a few beers yesterday evening and still got out for a ride! There were two riders I caught up with; while they weren't riding fast, the fact that I caught them was a psychological victory. I don't think my day would be complete without some time on the bike. Now if I can just get over my fear of hills... :)

Hot dog! Good for you!

Hills will get easier, keep riding.

(i've ridden with a hangover, too. Y'know, Clif electrolytes help the ol' hangover?)

I understand the "day not complete without riding the bike" thing. I feel the same way. Plus, commuting to work and errands is really saving me gas money. Which I promptly spend on the bike....

It's an interesting name; the heroine from Arabian Nights for those who wonder about it. I spent a lot of time in the Middle East and have my own tales to tell :)

I bet you do! Many moons ago, I had a housemate who'd been in the Peace Corps. She told me about a woman she knew who'd been posted to work with the Bedouin tribespeople. She "went native," blew off the Peace Corps, and is apparently galloping Arabian horses across the desert still. This story makes my husband nervous, as I've declared that my 50th birthday present to myself, come hell or high water, is a pony trek in Mongolia. However, since he's descended from a Revolutionary War general and he married a mixed-blood Cherokee gal, he's already gone native hisself!
