View Full Version : Warning: extremely shallow wheelset question!

OK, you guys are the only ones I can ask this question to without fear of being ridiculed. I warn you that it is extremely superficial and I know that the answer will have absolutely no impact on my riding or quality of life.

I have enough Team Performance points to buy a new wheelset. Right now I'm riding the stock Alex wheels, which are ok, kind of heavy. I was looking into the Mavic Open Pros with either Ultegra or 105 hubs. Should I get the black rims or silver rims? I know, I know, shallow. The stock Alex ones are black.

That's actually a tough one. Because your bike would look sweet either way.
I'd go with black, unless you want a look with more silver to it. But the silver would standout more against the tires, because the color frame you have I don't think has colors that come in tires, besides black.

I like the black too. It offset the little bit of black in the paint scheme. Don't worry, I'm shallow too. I told my husband I wanted an Orbea just cause it was so darn pretty! He shook his head at me. :p

Boy, that really is a tough one! But I think I'll go with the others and put my vote in for the black. Good luck with your decision! :)

I have the Open Pro wheels and I really love them. It was a step up from the Mavic wheels that came on my bike. I have the Ultegra set up.

Depends on what color your bike is as to rim color. I don't think you get to choose on the Open Pro- those are just spoke colors not rim colors if I'm not mistaken (....now I'll have to look at my bike again to see)

Check the links she provided. The rims are available in either color. The braking surface is machined silver on both.

I'm old school and tend to like silver, but somehow I like the black rims on that color bike. The black really sets off the blue and white, but I think either will be pretty. Fuji is really making some sharp looking bikes.

oh... I like the black too! Also, I don't think this is shallow at all! I buy all sorts of stuff because I like the look of it... from clothes to saddles all the way to choosing what color car I want!

If that's shallow... well heck, now ya know the real me! :D

Hey FG -

I'd go with black. It complements the forks, the black bar tape, and the black on the graphics. Now you just need carbon cranks.... :D :D

Have fun with it! Way sweet. Purty Fuji, by the way!!

I'd say black just coz your "trimmings" are black. and holy smokers will that look Awesome!!

As I and I'm sure FG can attest (with bias), they ride just as nice! ;)

uhm.... isn't the the ONLY way to buy stuff... on their looks... how they look on/with the bike????????????????????????

hard call not being able to see them ON the bike (and i'm no photoshop experts.. so i can't do that!)

i truly think either would look really good! but if i HAD to give an answer... uhmmmmmmm... silver! :)

So far, I've counted 8 to 1 in favor of black. I'm definitely leaning that in that direction....maybe I'll go in this weekend and place my order! I'm so excited! Any silver people out there, speak up (besides Caligurl - we know where she stands! :) :))

I vote for black too. Then you can get tires with blue sidewalls. Continental
has a blue sidewall that is pretty close to your bike's color.

Hi, this has nothing to do with the wheels. I looked at the picture and thought, "Where does she live? That looks like Chicago!" Then I remembered--she lives in Chicago! Good to know I can recognize my own hometown out the window. :p Have fun picking out your wheelset!

It's one of the things I liked about Silver... Nice shiny titanium frame with nice black rims ;) Plus the red on the Tufo tires just look awesome together. :D

Ok, if you are shallow then I'm right there with you! I actually took my bike to the LBS and put two different wheels on my bike to see which I liked best. Don't think they didn't get a good laugh about that one. I have an all blue bike and black looked best on it...so I say go with black.

No way! This is fun! I'd go black, too, and definitely spring for the Ultegra hubs, not the 105's, if that's even still a consideration.

Fun, fun, fun! Lovely bike
