My male JRT is missing since yesterday..I dont know how he got out of the house. After I came back from riding my bike I had to take some pills for my sinus which I try to avoid because they make me extremely sleepy. I had to take the medicine because the sinus was very bad. Of course it knocked me out and I fell asleep. That was around 8p.m. or so ...so I woke up around 11:30 p.m.from upstairs I told my youngest son to put the dogs in the cage and go to sleep. My dogs spend all day around the house but at night they sleep in their cage. Oh...well I heard him doing it and then after a few minutes I hear my female barking and wining. I thought ok..maybe the doors are not locked or soemthing..so I went downstairs to check the doors and check on her...then thats when I realized the male wasnt in the cage..and I thought ok maybe my son decided to take him with him or maybe he is in my kids room under the bed and they decidde to leave him there. Oh well I started calling him and no answer..He wasn't inside the house...I went out to check on him and nothing...he is not around...I know he might went out when one of my kids were dumping the trash or something and they didn't realized he was gone...but he knows his way back..so I know by now someone took him. I have already contact the microchip company and am still looking around and knocked on some neighboors doors with no succes...I couldn't sleep all night long and even had a couple of dreams about him...one of my dreams I saw him dead and the second one he came back home all happy. I woke up like 7 times during the night....we miss him so much...and the female dog is sad too.
I have already made some fliers and will start puting them up around the neighborhood and also posted on craigslist...do you guys have any other suggestions that might help?
To the people here In Indiana...here is the link of craigslist add and a Pic of him just in case. His name is Peyton

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Hopefully he's just out wandering and a kind soul will pick him up.
Couple of suggestions; call animal control and let them know, call area shelters, start calling vet offices.
Hope he's home soon!

I'm so sorry. I live in dire fear of one of my pets escaping. I can well imagine your heartbreak. I second Pax's suggestions. Leave fliers with all of them on the chance somebody brings him in. Hopefully, he'll turn up. Keep us posted.

Check local animal shelter's every day. And never give up. My friends dog was missing for almost 2 months when she found him.

Have hope that he will turn up, especially if he is microchipped. A cat recently came into my clinic and we scanned her for a chip. Luckily she had one and we reunited her with her owner. She had been missing for 6 months and the owners thought she was dead. They were so happy to have her back. Most vets will let you post lost flyers too and we've gotten a few dogs reunited with their families that way as well.

Keep us posted. I hope you find your little fellow. Call and GO to every local shelter. Descriptions are subjective, everyone sees different details and not everyone in the shelter sees every dog. I've read that it's important to go. Show pictures/flier and ask them to forward the information everywhere. You never know where he will turn up. I put your little guy in my Facebook status. Have some friends in animal rescue groups.

Unfortunately no News yet. Some people around the neighborhood said they saw him running through the neighborhood sometime during the day with a little boy. :( Now.... they said he looks like another dog from the neighborhood. So it is not for sure it was him they saw. We been out several times posting fliers and looking for him and hoping to see him wandering or see that little boy with the dog...but nothing. The day has been ugly raining and clowdy and barely anyone outside.
On the other hand I have to go drop my mom off to Chicago airport tomorrow..and I won't be back until late afternoon. My kids are going to school so no one to look for him in the morning . I gave them some fliers to hand out to the kids at school or at the school bus stop. I am so hoping he is in the area.
Thanks everyone on TE for the support

put his favorite food in his dish and put it outside. You may get some unwanted guests but if he is near, he will come back.
Or put his favorite bedding or family members stinky sock by the door. If you have been living for several years at your current location, he shouldn't stray too far.
Nearly 30 years ago, my cat pushed out a screen and went out for a while. I camped out in my backyard for about a week. During the day while I was at work, I left my stinky/sweaty shirt, socks... shoes outside. Then he showed up around 5:0AM one morning. He lived a happy long life. Mr. Cat died of very old age in my arm.
I second the suggestion to call Animal Control every day. I find strays all the time - in one case I called A/C several times during the course of a week - and so did the dog's owner - it took A WEEK before someone put two and two together and realized the dog I had belonged to the lady missing a dog of the same description. This dog even had a bright green collar (no tags) and they STILL didn't put it together.
Call. Or go down there. Every day. Leave flyers there, too.
Hang in there. I know I would be frantic if one of my girls were missing.

I would put fliers out all over the neighborhood; and start going door to door in the near vicinity talking to people to see if they have seen your dog.

I don't have anything to add to the excellent suggestions everyone has made, just wanted to lend my support...I can only imagine how you are feeling and pray that you will soon be reporting good news on this thread. The one time our elderly Boston Terrier went missing, on a dark and rainy night, she turned up at a neighbor's just down the road about 1/2 a mile. She slipped out of her harness/leash on her nightly walk as she'd gotten so thin and we had neglected to tighten it up. I think she got disoriented since she was partly blind and deaf and thus couldn't find her way back to our house.
I was in a complete panic, but it ended just fine. Don't give up!

I want to thank u all for all the positive vibes, energy and prayers. My boy Peyton is back home. A very nice neighbor saw him early this morning and her daughter tried to catch him but he ran away. She called me and told me the area she saw him. She was a great help. I found him about half mile away from home about 2 hours ago In the area the lady told me.
At soon as I came back from a 7 hour driving to and from Chicago airport i decided to go look for him before it started getting dark. I took my female Jack and started walking towards the last area he was seen and calling his name . She was snifing and pulling the leash very hard towards the area we found him. . He looks ok..a little beat up because of the bad weather he had to go through for 2 nights.. He is happy to be home but he also looks kind of down. I guess he is tired. Gave him lots of water, food and baith him with warm water. Will call the Vet to make appointment for a check up just to make sure everything ok.
Thank u all for the support.....we r so happy to have him back!

where is my dog when he's gone?
he's dog gone gone dog gone
when he gets back to our cozy little shack
its doggie where you been so long?
is he gambling all his kibble up in memphis?
or living on a riverboat for free?
I wish that I could tell
why he comes home with that smell
my dog should never go get gone from me
(From "Caspar Babypants" song Dog Gone Gone, Dog Gone) :)
My grand-daughter just loves this, she calls it the "arf-arf" song. Check it out on You-tube, it's really cute. So glad to hear your doggie found his way back!!

He is not feeling good . However bad he feels I bet he's glad to be home with you and family.
I've read dogs with stomach upset can be helped with some white rice.
But pleeeeeease don't take my word for it. Call the vet, even a 24 hour vet.
Who knows what he ate or drank. Heck, who knows what my dog gets into on her walks even though I'm ever vigilant like that entire huge rotting salmon she just would not let go :o. Or the entire box of chocolate TJ's Jo Jo's She's fed exceedingly well. :p Some things are very bad for dogs, stagnant water or oily water ...
It might pass through but check with a vet. I'm very happy to hear that you and your other dog found him.

Oh good! Hate that! So glad he is ok. He will probably sleep for 2 days now. So happy for you!
Canned pumpkin is good for sick doggie tummies. Don't know why anymore, I used to be so up on canine nutrition and what helps what problem.
So very, very glad he is home!!! Dogs tummies pass things much faster than ours, so hopefully he'll be back to normal in no time!

The pumpkin has fiber. When Nala was sick, I fed her poached chicken, rice, sweet potatoes (easier to get in New Orleans), topped with dollups of ricotta cheese - with the approval of her vet. Vet suggested either pumpkin or sweet potatoes and the ricotta cheese (calcium).
I'd still call his vet.

One time when my dog had a sick tummy I made him chicken and rice. I was at the stove cooking and my teenaged son walks in and asks whats for dinner. I said I don't know but the dog's having chicken and rice. That was the point at which my kids understood that it's all about the dog.;)

Thanks for all the advice...
One time he got sick because my son got a can of wet food from I don't know where...it was one of those cheap ones and he gave it to him... he got sick so bad and we didn't notice it after 2 days when we saw that he couldn't even walk and we saw he was pooping with blood. He had a high fever and the Vet said he got an infection that maybe that food had to much fat in it. they gave him Antibiotics and some medication and a diet of Chicken soup with rice for a whole week.

Aww, dog stories :) years ago we had two yellow labs - went out to the porch one morning and the male had eaten 3/4 of a beer can... he was fine
One Thanksgiving the female came home from a "wander" with a fully cooked Turkey! Someone must have set it on their patio to cool. We had just moved into the neighborhood but we lived there for five more years and I never heard anyone telling a story about a missing turkey. (no I did not go door knocking)

Glad your pup is doing better!
That's a huge little for such small dogs. How many were there?
My dog Moby (on the left in the photo) gets an upset stomach rather easily. White rice until he gets better is the usual direction from our vet.
Lily gas a cast-iron tummy. Good thing. Because she'll eat anything.
I was shocked when the Vet did the Ultrasound and told us that they were 8 and maybe 9...I was so worried about her even in the last week she was still running and jumping with that huge belly.....but all of them came out healthy and gorgeous . She was very good...she had the first 4 pups in the first hour..the total labor lasted from 11:30 until 3:30...the last one took about 1 hour to come out. and he was the biggest one.

Were they born at home? Or did you take her to the vet? That would be worrisome.
At home...we helped her...I was scared at first but when I saw she was doing great I calmed down . But I started getting worry again when the last one didnt want to come out. I called the vet because we thought he was dead..but when we were ready to take her to the clinic she started having the contractions and there he was. A couple of them we had to massage them to promote the breathing...it was a bit stresssful because she was popping them out one after the other. If she was by herself I believe she wouldnt be able to keep up and maybe one or two would have ended up dead....She was also laying on top of them trying to warm them up but that was her first litter so she didn't know and instead of warming them she was hurting them.....so good thing I took the day off. I new the night before she was going to have them the next day anytime..so I called in .
PS: I was ready ... I got a lot of info from the Vet and the Internet (dog websites) .
