I am just starting to ride a lot of miles and wanted the 2012 Ruby Comp Compact but that wasn't available and now I am getting a 2011 Ruby Expert -- does anyone think I should hold out for the 2012? thanks

I don't have that model but I did just order a 2011. The most difference I think and was told, it's just because it's the Newer model and they changed the color. there may be some other difference but that is something I think you are going to have to determine with what your needs are and your wants and whether color really matters.

I am just relying on the bike shop for help since I don't really know what to get and color for me is not important, just the fit of the bike. I was riding a men's bike before and it never fit correctly and I didn't have much fun riding. I did test quite a few bikes and it seems the basics are pretty much the same.

I agree, fit is very very important. I'm relying on my lady also as the one i'm purchasing is not in the store. so.. I'm good. I just mentioned color because some people will just wait things out just for a color. So I just mentioned if that was something you were trying to decide.

so if the basics are the same, the only difference is price. Save the money and buy some more clothing or other necessary items.

The 2011 Expert has Ultegra components, but I forget what the Comp has--I want to say 105. If you can get the Expert at a substantial discount, go for it. If not, and money is an issue, wait for the Comp.

I sort of wanted Sram..but the bike shop likes Ultegra and I did get at a pretty good price I think..any ideas on Sram vs Shimano?

That's really a personal preference because (as you might know) the action required to shift is different. I personally prefer Shimano, as SRAM makes no sense to me. Your mileage may vary.

Ditto what she said--except Shimano makes no sense to me! ;)

Well at least for 2011, the Comp is Shimano 105 (and I Love my Comp). The Ultegra would be an upgrade.

Go with $$$, color and what speakes to you!!! Have a great time making this most wonderful, difficult decision;). I don't think you can go wrong.

You'll probably be able to work a good deal for the 2011. With it having Ultegra components I'd go for that.
