That's right...that's me...in the 45-49 yr old category...40 miler. Okay, so I was the only one in my age group, but hey, anyone in NC could have come out...they just chose not to...so I walked away with first place, a nice T-shirt and little medal. Painfully hot, but glad I did it.

Dang, wish I'd known about it! Though, on my Bike Friday and at the "young" end of whatever age bracket is right above yours (I just turned 50), I doubt I would have placed unless there were only a couple entrants in that age range.

Congratulations! A win is a win! :p :D :p :D

YAY! Congrats to you! You did something no one else did - showed up and raced your bike. That makes you a champion for sure.

It was held near Graham...route included 3 trips up Bass Mountain.
Turnout was pathetic.
On Saturday it was age group racing, on Sunday category racing.
The three women (self included) who showed up on Saturday were all different ages, so we all gold medal podium'ed. Thankfully, the lady who won the 50-54 group had also just turned 50, else she would have kicked my tail.
I think there were more for the cat racing on Sunday, but I was committed to other stuff that day..I heard many did not finish (men and women) because of the heat.

Wow, I could have won the silver, then! :D

It was hot, but we rode both days (in and around Chapel Hill). Sunday I did 52 miles and didn't get home until 1:30 pm, so I could have handled the heat. Not sure about Bass Mountain, though; I'm not familiar with it.

Unfortunately turnout was poor because the race conficted with a very popular one in tennessee - so lots of us western nc'ers raced there....course I am now officially a south carolinian - but I know lots of nc people who raced in tennessee that weekend - they like it because it is very very hilly.
