Today I took my last ride of 2010. After being sick for several weeks, I'm SERIOUSLY out of shape. The weather couldn't have been better, though (68 degrees!) and I had one of the happiest rides I can remember. Happy New Year's everybody!!!:D

1,827 miles as of today :D

This time a year ago I had only taken one little riding attempt in a parking lot to see if I could actually ride my new bike - having no idea if I COULD ride but really wanted to learn - so therefore I did. I've come a long way baby, even with the lingering injuries since Sept that has kept me off the bike.

2561 on my Garmin that I've had since June. I figure I do about 5-6K per year total. (I rarely drive)

Congrats on your miles! Well done!

Mine, not impressive...been an interesting year:

2007: 826
2008: 4,049
2009: 2,859
2010: 870

Goal for '11: 3,000

3674, for 2010 as of 1 hour ago.

Celebrated my last ride of the year: a chilly 15 miles to Saguaro National Park and back from my house in 42 degree temps! (that's practically unheard of for a daytime high in Tucson)

We have the same goal for 2011 :)

May all of us have a safe, and fun, 2011 that is full of many miles and smiles - with no injuries :D

2355 for me this year. That is like biking from Salt Lake City to Boston. Yahoo!

The lowest to dare post at 774 miles total. Less than I'd hoped, but this year we fixed up our house to sell, sold it, and moved; plus took two trips to Belize, so it was busy and crazy. And NC had the hottest summer on record followed by the coldest December, so I just didn't get out as much as I would have liked. Still, I really enjoyed my shorter rides this year, and I'm not complaining! Got out for 12.3 miles today all over Chapel Hill, which was great fun on this 60 degree NY's Eve! Gotta love it! :D

My goal for 2011 is 3,500 miles. I think I can do it if I start riding again consistently by end of February/early March + more commuting. And I'd like to do 2 centuries this year.

3,292 miles! :D :D I am very happy with that. My goal was 3000, so I am a bit over. It was 60 degrees today where I live and DH and I had one last wonderful 25 miler. There was melting snow by the sides of the road (and water on the road) so had to clean the bike afterwards. Oh, and one of my shifter cables broke just as we were starting. DH had it fixed in 20 minutes and we were back on the road!

I have some big ride plans for 2011, including a metric in April, a century in May, and Bike Tour of Colorado in June. Maybe even will try to get some miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Happy New Year to all TE members! Have a great and SAFE cycling year.

3513.5 + 1000.3 miles of running. Not shabby for a girl who just got her bike in Nov. '09. :D

160 rides for 3,964 miles.
93 of those rides were commutes (round trip).

And about 150 miles jogging.

I need to remember to track my miles more closely. I am having to guess at around 2500 miles for 2010. I would like to hit 4,000 this year but realistically I think 3500 is more reasonable given my lack of time. I commute but I live pretty close so I don't rack up as many miles as I used to. I like to think those short miles count for more b/c they are sooooo much hillier than they used to be :). I'm a little peeved that I have clinic on Saturday this spring semester and my group is one of two groups that were assigned saturdays:( Oh well I'm sure we all have our obstacles to deal with, I don't want to let it stop me from reaching my goal of 3500 miles. I haven't counted any trainer or spin classes, do you all count that on your miles?:D BTW, Happy New Year girls I always enjoy our shared stories throughout the year:D:D:D

Outdoor miles: 7,157 (lost months of Jan, Feb, part of March, and 30 days in December due to weather//weather-related pavement conditions). I logged a lot of time on the trainer but I am not counting those miles.

Swimming: 493.25 miles (868,125 yards!)

You are quite an inspiration!

This year was not what I had hoped it would be - for a lot of reasons. I haven't added up my mileage, and won't because it won't be a positive thing for me.

Here's to lots of miles in 2011!

I ended up with 10,004. Crazy...I know. :D My main goal for the year was to exceed last year's mileage which was 7,000. About a month ago when I noticed that I was inching towards 10,000, I started to become a little obsessive about hitting that number. It's just a really nice, round number. :) My daily commutes help (30 miles roundtrip) and the group rides on the weekend certainly help. :)

12,317 km for the year, with two months ill so pretty happy. My local forum has a group on My Cycling Log (http://www.mycyclinglog.com/), beating a UK forum group for the year which was fun. It's very easy to use, and you can input other activities, so maybe the TE people would like to set up a group.

I know I posted 215 in the NYE thread, but I realized I short-changed myself for a few rides from when the computer malfunctioned. So it's closer to 236.

Wow pfunk!

Not sure to the exact kilometre since I stopped throwing on my cyclometer on handlebar. But know the distances of common routes I cycled regularily last year plus our bike trips.

Less than 2009 (over 7,000 kms.). 2010 was probably just abit over 5,000 kms.

One of our friends has been riding for about 2 years and hit 10k miles for the year, too. Yesterday she celebrated by doing an outdoor century (in MI...thankfully it was nearly 60º...freaky weather) capped-off by a 5k NYE race. She's an animal! :D

I didn't keep track of my miles exactly (new bike, new computer . . . )
However, if you include trainer miles, it is around 5000mi give or take. Kinda low for me actually, but a lot of intensity this year instead of the endurance of last year.

My goal for 2010 was 7,000...but I came up a bit short at 6,959. I am very pleased with that, but for 2011 I will hit that 7,000 mark...if it's the last thing I do. :D

You know, in the past I could tell you. But in 2010, I decided to ride for joy and fitness rather than miles, speed, cadence, etc. It is quite liberating.

I didn't keep track exactly (not all my bikes have computers on them, plus I had some malfunctions on the ones that do), but I'm somewhere around 5,000 miles for the year, outside. I have no idea how many additional trainer miles I have - that would add about 40-50 miles per week for the last 4 months.

For 2011, I plan to ride Paris-Brest-Paris, so I've set myself the ambitious goal of riding 5000 miles before July 31st. I'm also voing to do a better job keeping track!

I started 2011 by riding 128 miles on New year's Day, so I'm off to a good start. :-) 4872 to go!

6142 miles for me. Would have had a lot more had undiagnosed depression sucked the light and joy from my life. Not sure what I am aiming for in 2011. There is a 300k on the other side of the state in May that I have been eyeballing for the last couple years, maybe I'll do that.

What does it matter how many miles you rode?
As long as you rode it's all good.

Mr. Bloom
01-03-2011, 02:59 AM
Not necessarily. For some, the normal tendency toward inertia is only overcome with goals and gauging the progress toward goal.

Crankin
01-03-2011, 09:49 AM
I tend to agree with Zen, although it's easy for me to say that this year, as I met and surpassed my goal. But overall, inertia plays no part in how far I ride. It tends to be more weather related and the state of my own body, i.e. my health. I always want to ride, but I have learned the hard way when I need to tone it down. By scaling down my goals during the last 2 years, I was able to raise the bar this year.
I have no idea of what I will achieve this coming season and I am not going to set any official goals until I know what kind of job I have after I graduate in May. My only goal is to start riding consistently outdoors by March 5th, resume my early morning "dark rides" in April, and do at least one long ride a week. And to try to get a job that will allow me to commute a couple of days a week.
Right now, although I am a little envious of reading the "first ride of the year" thread, I am concentrating on nordic skiing, snow shoeing, core work, yoga, etc. I've missed a few warmish days that I could have gone out on, but now that my road bike is on the trainer, I don't feel the need to take it down. I'll probably get out on my hybrid a few times in the next 2 months, but it's not the highest thing on my list. Although i was riding in temperatures at around 32 F in December and November, I seem to have lost my mojo for cold riding conditions.
Oh, and did say I rode 3,227 miles?

A bit over 4,000 in 2010. Similar to 2009 but a little less. Considering I had 2 nasty shoulder injuries both years and sub-optimal early winter conditions (in life and weather), I guess that's not bad. I feel way behind on base this year, though. I guess the longer race distances and some long miles in the early 2010 season are what helped me keep up despite recent time off the bike. 2011 is going to be a struggle.

4368 for me, but I think I'm missing a 44 mile ride on my log, which would make it 4412 ... but who's counting?! ;)

Zen ... what kind of silly question is that?! It DOESN'T really matter how much we rode, but why do we even come to this site if not to banter about anything and everything cycling related? You could ask that question about a lot of posts. I found this thread fun and entertaining. It's interesting to see how many miles other people here have ridden and compare it ... just for fun. No one is better than anyone else because they rode more or less than someone else. Just my two cents.

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with keeping track of one's mileage or using it as a motivator. There's also nothing wrong with not caring two cents about it. I've done both and been perfectly content with the outcome.

To each their own, Zen. To each their own. ;)

As long as you rode it's all good.
In some ways, it doesn't even matter if you rode (although most of us would probably prefer it that way hehe). So long as we're all doing some form of exercise to stay fit and healthy.

But equally, something that tracks your progress can be invaluable, whether it's as part of structured training for a target goal or just to help with your internal motivation. I did a lot of training early last year and loved the bar charts that My Cycling Log produces - more useful to me than Garmin Connect and mucking around with files. And when in doubt about recovery week load or weekly build I could look at the charts of one of our group's elite riders to get a feel for the proportions and tweak my weekly load. I needed to build to 600km/week and logging it helped me do that. Highly recommended.

No idea how far I rode in 2010 but had some great rides. At one time I did log all my rides but was beginning to feel like a rat on a treadmill with a quota to fill - I have enough of that at work. So when I put together a tourer/CXer I left the computer off and haven't missed it. It's the bike I ride all the time now, hardly touch the racer.

Actually my riding is more how I used to ride when I was 14 years old: just getting out and exploring. Sometimes I combine it with hiking and swimming, sightseeing etc.

6,354.91 miles for 2010. A friend did over 15,000 miles for 2010, which put my miles into perspective. For 2011 I have some cycling goals that are specific rides, but will focus on total body fitness, so total cycling miles will not be a fitness goal for me other than I will maintain cardio endurance and focus on gaining speed on long climbs. I really enjoy spin class and hope to keep it up during the cycling months. I also am learning more kettlebell routines and want to see how far I can go because the kettlebells are such a physically aerobic total body workout. And I will do more hiking and running.

6,303 road miles with a couple good crashes in there. I find total mileage interesting but it's not the driving factor in my riding this year; my 20-mile each way commute drove the mileage. This year I don't have that commute, so I'm sure my mileage will drop. I hope to just stay fit and healthy and get some other non-bike exercise in for a change.
