View Full Version : Is grapeseed oil green, or am I about to poison my daughter's class picnic crowd?

A while back someone recommended grapeseed oil for baking, so I bought some and loved it -- it was a clear golden color and added a great richness to the pumpkin bread I was making. When I ran out of that, I bought some more at a different store - Trader Joe's, I think - and it's in a dark bottle with a foil wrapper around the cork! There's a cork!

Okay, so it's schmancy grapeseed oil, I'm thinking, as I open this bottle. And then it pours out green. It's expeller-expressed.

Is this okay?

I'm sure you'll have some variation in color just as you do with olive oil. What I've seen isn't quite as dark-colored as most olive oil, but definitely green.

the most recent bottle i bought was pale light green and we finished the bottle and no one in my house got poisoned!

Phew, thanks.

Because the pumpkin bread really looks delicious. It's out of the oven and cooling now. Mmmmmmm.

I was going to say that provided it doesn't smell rancid, it's probably fine, but I'm a bit late for that.

of course you could always do the ond trick of eating a bit every hour for four hours and see if you survive.;)

We survived. The bread was delicious - Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread Mix. I brought it still warm to the picnic, and it was chilly there, so the bread went over well.

Thanks, all!

Yum, Roxy! That Pumpkin Bread sounds so delicious! Even though it's the middle of spring here in Aus, it's still pretty cool - we had heaters on the other night, so I'm definitely in the mood for some warm autumny type food :)

I was going to ask for the recipe, but noticed that it was a bread mix - I don't think we can get Trader Joe's stuff here.

If anyone here has a great pumpkin bread recipe, it would be most welcomed. :)

Linda.
