Today I did my first 50 mile ride on my new road bike. I had a stiff headwind for about 15 miles, which kinda wiped me out. Plus, the bar where I had planned on getting lunch halfway through was closed for Monday. Oops! Luckily, I made it to a visitor's center which had a water fountain and candy bars. I never eat candy, but I ate 3 of them. The woman at the cash register was amused when I kept coming back in for another one. On the third candy bar, she asked me if I wanted a bag, then she cracked up laughing. Ok, so I was starving.
But I made it up all the steep hills (well, almost), and I got my second wind and could have kept going by the time I made it back to the car. I averaged 14 mph, which isn't bad for me. And my saddle is finally adjusted so it's not hurting anymore. (I remembered that a chiropractor once told me I had one leg longer than the other, so I tilted the seat to one side very, very slightly, away from the side of my bottom that was killing me, and that did the trick.)
