We just received our Custom Sugoi RS shorts for our team and they are see-thru on the back black panel where you can see your butt crack. We are in the process of contacting Sugoi and hoping that they will fix it. In case they won't, do you have any suggestions?

No advice, but funny you should mention it. I was just talking with someone about all the biker bum you can see out there lately.

Are shorts getting thinner?

I wear RS shorts. When you don't have them on, they look like they're going to be see through, but once you put them on, they're not. Several of my girlfriends wear them, too, and we all sort of freaked out when we first got them, but we've checked one another out while out on the road. They're our fave shorts hands down.

Are yours actually see through once you put them on? If so, I hope that Sugoi sends you better replacements.

I do have a regular pair of RS shorts that are not see thru. These are custom shorts and the back panel and the sides of the shorts are made with ultra aero fabric which is see-thru especially when they get wet from rain or sweat. The material around the chamois is a thicker material and I wished they would of put that type of material on the back of the short.

Eek, that's bad!! Good luck getting the problem fixed.

DH's team kit from L Garneau has similar problem. Pro actively, I would suggest a small backround print (grey on the black) to provide distraction, or words printed over the entire area. Since his kit is already created, as is yours, the only solution is a base layer long enough to pull down over the butt crack area under the shorts. His lightweight icebreaker or ibex baselayers are long and stretchy enough to accomplish this. Tokie

We had that problem a couple of years ago (different kit mfg - but probably same fabric). They basically said - you picked the fabric so tough luck....

I think they are. I see a lot of it from kit that I know is brand new. Never used to, including when I used to ride rain or shine...

Trying to remember the brand of shorts the guy had on this morning, see-through white.:eek: At least with black shorts, you mostly can't see the hairs. :p

Yes the long base layer works. I just bought a white size small men's craft pro cool superlight sleeveless base layer. It is very light, not bulky and I can wear it when it is hot.

It seems as if several companies are adding "ventilation" type panels in the rear of shorts, just above the crack area.
I think I wrote about this a couple of years ago, when my friend's DH bought her a very expensive pair of Exte Ondo shorts and a matching top. I am usually never behind her, but I was that day. It was disturbing and I had to tell her.
When I bought the Shebeest S Pro shorts last year, there also appeared to be see through material in this spot. But, I had my DH check, to make sure nothing was visible, before I tore the tags off. They were fine, even though it looks see through when they are not actually on the body.

One high school in my district ordered white swim suits with orange side panels for the girls swim team..

That was 1976 and I am still shaking my head.

I think I saw a pair of these shorts yesterday.
I did the Best Dam Ride yesterday and I kept getting stuck behind an overweight guy in a pair. Not a pretty sight. I finally parted ways with him around mile 18 and thankfully never crossed his path again.

Good news. I complained to Sugoi and the custom department said that they had a bad batch of fabric so they credited our team for the shorts we ordered.

I recently ordered a pair of Sugoi RS shorts from TE. In my opinion, they are the best shorts I've ever worn, and I will order more when I need new shorts.

They are NOT see-through, by the way. They are superb cycling shorts.

It's annoying that great bike shorts in their "generic" retail version can be nicely solid in the rear panel with no see through, but when a custom kit is manufactured, the panels that are designed to be printed on is made of a completely different fabric, which always seems to be lighter-weight,less compressive, and slightly see-through. DH just got his kit from Louis Garneau for 2010 (they ordered late!) and the formerly see-through rear panel is now backed up with a layer of tan fabric. No more see-through! And the double layer of fabric does not bother him, but I appreciate it riding behind him! Tokie

This isn't a bad idea. You can buy material at most fabric shops that is intended to be used as swimsuit liner - it's "flesh-tone" (peach-ish - sometimes also found in black or white), very thin, 4 way stretch nylon tricot.

I did a group ride with one of your teammates tonite (she was home in MI visiting her folks). You aren't kidding about the transparency (we got a laugh talking about her butt-cheek tattoo). I actually asked her if she was the one who posted on TE.

That was Shelly my team mate. I actually sent a photo of her tattoo showing through the fabric to the Custom's department.

I also belong to a Triathlon group that ordered Sugoi RS tri shorts which uses the ultra aero fabric. It was not see thru and the fabric was slightly different.

They're my faves, too. Susan at TE recommended them to me a few years ago, and they're the only shorts I've worn ever since.

I briefly rode behind a guy with white bibs on yesterday. He had been riding for several hours so was pretty sweaty. Yep, very see-through. I was really glad when DH and I turned, and he and his buddy kept going straight!

I am also part of a Triathlon team and their RS shorts have the same fabric and we compared the shorts and the Tri shorts were slightly different and they were not see thru.

I just received some Women's Sugoi RS custom bib shorts and I love them and the fabric is better and not see thru. I am very happy with Sugoi.

I love my Sugoi RS shorts, I am trying to find a pair of the black/white that are not so expensive. I found the black ones at a good price but the B/W are harder to find.
Talking about guys wearing white shorts, a few weeks ago I was riding by myself at our local spot and three guys all in white kits came up next to me. There was a huge bridge coming up and I told them to go ahead, they waited and said I could stay with them. I finally told the one guy, "I'd love to stay with you guys, but your shorts are WAY too see through and I don't know you". His friends started laughing so hard they had to pull over. I couldn't resist!
