My riding buddy and I rode 52 miles Sat!!! we started at 7:00 am to beat the heat, and almost did, but that is the most I have EVER ridden, we are training for the century in 5 weeks. I was beat tho, and my legs were a little sore the next morning be we did it!!!!! I am proud of her too, she is almost 58 y/o! she kept saying can we do this, and I kept saying HE!! yeah we can. I felt kinda sorry for her tho, she had to go do a gig with her quartet, I got to go home and sleep.
We rode some beautiful back roads mostly rolling hills so that was a nice change. I wonder how I will feel after 100  HE!! yeah we can do it. :p

Thanks!!! we ride in the hills all the time and the century is south of us so it will be less hilly :D so we figure we will ride 80 miles here in the hills so 100 on a relatively flat course should be nothing. She is going out of town this w/e so I don't know if I will be able to make myself ride that far again, so I hope to ride more during the week, I rode 140 miles last week so I hope to ride near that this week

trigurl way to go! when I bought my first bike my big goal was to do a 53 mile fun ride called Rosarito to Ensanada in Mexico... when I achieved it I got a "gearhead" tattoo on my back! :D
it's certainly a big accomplishment! can't wait to hear how great you do on that century!!!

Hey AG - I know!! You said that Monterey ride is 46 miles - so I'm thinking of getting to the parking lot early and riding around for 4 miles before we start so I can call that day a 50 mile day! :p
And Trigurl - people have told me that once you've ridden 50 miles, the century is totally do-able - it's mostly mental after that! (or so they say! )

Sounds good! 50 wasn't THAT hard :D we didn't take a break soon enough tho we both were feeling it in our crotch area :o we decided to take breaks every hour or sooner!
OHHHH and did I forget to mention that our AVS was 14????
I am ready for the century! I just know it will be great, it is late Sept so the weather will be perfect here.
Gas just went up AGAIN here  I may be driving 1/2 way to work then riding my bike, it was $2.39 this morning as I passed the pump, I went back by on my way to P/T and it was $2.44, within 2 hours
I need to get my motorcycle license, I have one waiting on me to ride, it gets 47 mpg, but I really like riding my bike, guess I could ride one every other day.

I've never done 50, either. Great going, Trigurl! Can't wait to hear your century report!! I want to be able to do a metric by the end of the year. We'll see how it goes.

Well done Trigurl
You have inspired me - I am still trying to reach 50KMS never mind 50 Miles.
I will keep you in mind next time I try to ride those extra kms.
Quick question - on average how many stops do riders normally make on a 50 mile ride?

Trek, I think you should stop as often as you feel you must. I just go slow, drink a lot, pace mysel and enjoy the ride if I'm going for a new distance. The speed can come after you've accomplished the mileage goal. My longest ride to date is about 40 miles, and on that ride I just stopped often and took one long break, and at the halfway point I ate a Gu packet.

Yeee haaa is Right Tri!! goodonya for a job well done!! doesn't it just feel Great?? and see what I mean - it ain't the miles anymore, it's the time. I went straight from a metric (ok....74 miles) to a century coz I Knew I could ride 25 miles so what the heck!
as for the legs being a bit sore: elevate your legs after a ride like that. I usually try to eat within a 1/2 hr and get my legs elevated as quickly as I can. I try to keep them elevated for at least an hour or so, sometimes longer coz it just feels good on my legs. Too date I haven't had any leg issues and I usually do another 25 miles the next day just to keep the muscles fluid.

Thanks ya'll :D I knew ya'll would be supportive, everyone else looks at me funny and says "WHY", because I can is my usual answer, or because I am going to ride 100 miles in Sept. they usually just shake their heads then
We rode about 21 miles and stopped for a few minutes and drank then rode another 15 miles, that was way too far to wait, we stopped for about 15 min and ate and drank then finished the ride. We didn't want to stop again b/c after the second stop it was hard to get going again, until the hammer gel kicked in :)
Our next long ride will be 55-60 miles, probably next weekend, we are in the 5th week and counting down!
This is really my first year riding, I rode the spin cycles last year and over the winter. I got this new bike in March this year and I have quickly become hooked on riding! I could never run 52 miles. There is lots of pretty country in this area so that helps. Altho my horse is probably wondering if I will ever ride him again (right).
