I'm in the market for a very simple HR monitor. All I want to know is my current HR and calories used during exercise.

I was very interested in this (http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Womens-Heart-Monitor-Watch/dp/B000WPHR40/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t) but it looks like it needs a chest strap, which almost doubles the price.

Does anyone know of a simple model that is wrist-only?

See this

Personally I would find placing 2 fingers on it to register HR a pain..but that's me.

I like this one

I have a Mio. It works great, except I never remember to touch the buttons.

Oh yeah, I think I got mine at Walmart for like $40.

Then how do you get a reading

That's the problem. I don't remember to touch the buttons, so no reading.

I guess I should've said it works great as long as you can remember to touch the buttons for a reading.:o

Are you sure you need to buy the chest strap seperate for the Polar?

I have owned 2 Polar HRM (which I love) both the basic ones and they came with the chest strap and were within the price range shown.

Ditto this.

Zen - that F4 comes with the strap included in the price. All their HRM are sold that way.

Yes. I have had two F4s over the years and they both came with their straps. Liked them very much but eventually broke a button on both of them (and I don't think I'm that strong or rough).

Not sure how you can get an accurate idea of calories burned if you don't have one with a strap that is constantly measuring your level of exertion. If you are only using one where you touch the buttons for an instantaneous reading now and again (which, don't get me wrong, is good for working out how hard you are working right then) the calorie calculation can only be about as accurate as one you work out in your head from the usual formulae/rules of thumb around the place.

I have the Polar F7, and it came with the strap as well. I thought it would be strange wearing it but it isn't. It is also nice to be able to make the strap smaller every week or so as I shrink :p
