Still trying to figure out tonight's meal..but probably make ravioli filled with red beet, ricotta, etc. with a wine sauce. He's doing this even though I initially wanted to make stir fried mussels with tomatoes, etc.
No problem! :)
With fennel slaw marinated in honey, lemon juice, etc. Actually leftovers.
Another veggie.
Don't know about tomorrow.
We're not going out to have restaurant meal until we leave city for a short trip in a few days. :)
We're having tons of shrimp cocktail and some grilled portobellos, we'll finish off with a really nice bottle of Proseco.

I will have some really good soup (always better the second day), an ale, and either a science fiction or mystery marathon.

We had pizza and salad. No booze. I'm on call starting 11pm tonight till 11 pm tomorrow night. :(

We're making both dishes actually. I have a hankering for mussels. :rolleyes:
Then watch 2 comedy shows. 1 is Royal Canadian Air Farce would have some 2009 humorous reflections on politics, etc. Followed by another different comedy.
Giggle and laugh into 2010. :)

We went out for dinner. I had steak, and then we're doing lamb as we always have for New Year tomorrow night. Then I go back to my steady diet of chicken. Thanks, college!

Does anyone else follow the tradition of eating beans on New Year's Day for good luck?
Last year we didn't do it and the year turned out pretty good. I haven't even thought about what to fix this year.

Yep. We always have my bf's veggie version of Hoppin' John. Basically black eyed peas, rice and kale stewed together, with lots of Frank's Red Hot. Just had a big bowl. Yum.

I was introduced to the traditional "Lucky" New Year's meal in 1985. As a girl whose entire family (with the exception of one Great-Grandmother) had lived for three generations in the Pacific Northwest, I had never heard of such a tradition. A lot more than possessions got left behind on the Oregon Trail.
My hubby is from Pittsburgh, PA, and they eat pork roast in sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and apple sauce. Sometimes they go all out and do German Potato Salad. A new brother-in-law, in 1991, added link sausage to the pork and sauerkraut. He was from South PGH. I know, you can feel your arteries clogging as you read this.
Then I moved to GA and discovered that they have a "Lucky" meal too! Black-eyed-peas and collard greens. From my understanding, it takes about a whole grocery cart of raw collard greens to make a 1/2 cup cooked. I have never cooked any in my 24 years of Southern living so I am going on hearsay.
I won't be making the PGH pork fest until January 2nd this year. Good thing we are not superstitious! We will be traveling to Atlanta to see my Western-born nephew and his new baby, plus some visiting family. He moved to GA in 1991 and the PGH pork fest became his favorite meal. He is special to us, like a son, so I try to make it for him when we visit.

We had king crab, brie and roasted garlic on fresh bread and wine with friends. Stayed up to midnight playing Jenga!

I wound up going with the first season of 30 Rock.
My grandmother used to have beer with herring on New Year's Eve. It was a German thing. Sometimes my father has it, too.

Last year we had trouble staying up past about 10:30, even with friends, so this year we tried to occupy our time.
We made fresh pasta in the new kitchen aid pasta press maker dealie that a friend got, ate that with clams and a white wine sauce, then made more fresh pasta to dry. After that, made madeleines, which took us to 2010, when we toasted. We made it, hooray! :D Ate our madeleines with nutella (YUM) and headed home around 2am.
Today, pancake breakfast with more friends, their tradition. Tasty vanilla bean with a little poppy seed pancakes, even. Yum. Later we had some fresh pasta and mushrooms with havarti, tasty! For dinner, back to normal, with tacos (which I eat on a plate without a shell anyway).
Thinking about making homemade ravioli tomorrow. I don't usually eat this much pasta, but having it fresh just makes you want to have it fresh. :p

I always make Hoppin' John for New Years Day. I sautee collards in garlic and olive oil and serve it with rice and black-eyed peas. I like alot of Texas Pete on it.
You eat Hoppin' John for luck (beans), health (rice), and money (collards).

I've been coveting at that pasta attachment, but thinking I don't need to be having pasta in the house all the time. It does look like fun though. Madeleines are my favorite - and nutella sounds like the perfect topping for them. Yum.

We went to a friend's house. She made slow-cooked ribs in a crock pot (yum!), roasted potatoes & root veggies, and salad. Couldn't eat *too* much though, because we ran the First Run 5K at midnight and didn't want to be overly full.
Running 5K through the streets of Portland at midnight in sparkly dresses is alot of fun!
We made aebleskivers and waffles for breakfast new years day. YYUUUUUMMMMMMYY.
