Ok, so I'm not too ladylike! I love wine, but geez, there is nothing like a good ale. I am from Boston, the home to Sam Adams. But my favorites are:
Newcastle Ale
Boddingtons Ale
Negro Modelo
Mothership Wit (and it's organic!)
And I admit it, I drink one ale a day. Keeps the doctor away! So what is your favorite one?

Dale's Pale Ale. Seriously delicious, even though it is in a can. Plus it's from my homeland.
Wolaver's India Pale Ale: that's what I am sipping on right now. Organic. Makes me feel better about consumption of alcohol. Sort of light for an India Pale Ale. Hoppy, but not over the top.
I love beer. I try to love wine...but, truth is, I love beer, and my belly is starting to show this.

I love all beer though. I really do.

Fat Tire Amber Ale - and no one distributes it in these parts. I have to have it "imported" from SC. There just happens to be a case (minus one beer) in my fridge right now. By New Belgium Brewing Co. in Ft. Collins, CO - they are wonderful supporters of cycling events, too.
Second: a local brew, Star Hill Amber Ale, from Charlottesville, VA. Good stuff.

Probably what I liked the best is the low-alcohol Heineken you get in the Netherlands. They don't import it into the USA. Probably the same stuff people drank for breakfast 1,000 years ago.

Can't really tell you my favorite...but we try beer, especially local microbrews not matter where we are!
Our Colorado to Moab trip we filled the rented mini van w/ microbrews! I like mostly Amber ales or seasonals.
We also did the Pumpkin Beer tasting for Halloween!
Hard to find, our wine shop had some...we bought them out--not sure where it is from it is called Golden Promise. Comes in big bottles and so so smoooooooth!
Love beer (and wine)!!!:)

My favorite has always been Guinness (GLC comes from 'Guinness lovin Cat'), but since moving to Oregon, I've tasted a lot of delicious local beers that I really like. Unfortunately, I suck at remembering names. :o

Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Guiness
My "house" beer is Sam Adams Light. Very tasty for a light ale.

Used to curse for awhile that I am slightly allergic to alcoholic drinks-- I turn red very fast after only 1/4 c. or less, of anything-boozy. Now, am glad my body warns me not to take in too much libation 'cause of this possible result.

Goose Island bourbon barrel aged stout (Sridhar’s other Fav) <-- last minute addition

Although I have strong preferences that change moment to moment, I'm pretty much an equal opportunity drinker.
Tiger the cat, however, prefers Cutthroat, and will nuzzle up until he gets a lick off the bottle rim.

I have an abiding fondness for dark chewy beers.
Guinness is good.
A good Black and Tan is wonderful, even if the beers mix because I can't pour them right
Our local brewery Empyrean Ales does a very good job, I'd ride my bike downtown for one of their Third Stone Browns.
Other people can drink the lite beers, leaves more of the dark ones for me! :)

* Stone Chocolate Stout
* Stone Imperial Stout (Sridhar’s Fav)
* Goose Island bourbon barrel aged stout (Sridhar’s other Fav) <-- last minute addition

* North Coast Rasputin, Imperial Stout 12th Anniversary (Erik’s Fav)
* Deschutes 21st Anniversary “Imperial” Black Butte Porter (Joanne’s Fav) <-- yep, that's me!!
For me, 1st place was the Stone Imperial Stout.
Second place was everything else. If I were forced to pick my least favorite, maybe it would be the Stone Choc. Oatmeal Bitter Stout, but only if I were forced to choose. They were all great.
Among the tasters, the overall winner (by a very narrow margin) was the Rasputin Imperial Stout.

Alaskan Smoked Porter. The 2009 batch just came out, they only brew it once a year. It is FAR better on tap (and wonderful at the brewery where it's all free but that's in Juneau) but the bottles are good.
Stone Brewery also has a smoked porter and they have (on tap only, I believe) a smoked porter infused with chiles.
I have historically liked stouts but moved to porters and the smoked porters are the best.

I thought I would revive this because I have become quite the beer fan. I have discovered I really like dark beers, still don't like IPA. The other night I had an amazing dark, (512) Brewing's Pecan Porter. I also discovered Live Oak Brewing which is only available on tap in Texas, but if you are hear and have a chance they make a nice brown ale.
Last spring the mountain bike series was sponsored by Oskar Blues, I became quite a fan of Old Chub. I think it is a Scottish style beer.

Mmm, you gals are making me thirsty for a good beer, and all I have in the fridge is Corona and Miller Lite!
I like Blue Moon w/an orange slice, Hefeweisen, and most beers/ales that have a fruit flavor. The raspberry beer papaver posted looks delicious! Recently had a microbrew pumpkin ale (don't remember the brand) at a bar that was delicious. Last year we bought some blueberry ale around Christmas that was very enjoyable. It was downright purple, and whenever I had it, I felt like I was getting plenty of anti-oxidants! Think I'll try to find something interesting to drink once we get down to the beach (for Christmas w/my family) again this year - leaving tomorrow!

Emily, you would probably like Shiner Cheer although I am unsure how far out of Texas they sell it. My husband and I can both taste the peaches in it. We don't like fruity beers but a lot of people we know love that one. I like how with beer and wine you can agree to disagree on tastes. My husband and I will notice completely different things in a beer, I will taste coffee and he will say chocolate. I will notice cinnamon, he will notice a fruit. Kind of fun.

I drink much more wine than beer. But there's times when only a beer will do like on a hot summer evening.
I tend to like lagers and pilsners more than ales. Likes are as follows:
Blue Moon and Pale Moon
Bells Oberon (rocks)
Heinken
In the Ann Arbor area we have several local brews, but I'm not good at remembering beer names, most are pretty good and there was an all organic local brewery that made excellent beer and served their beers out of the correct style glass for a particular beer (this got lots of extra points from me) but sadly they are no longer in business.
On a visit to Canada's Muskoka lakes region I visited a cottage brewery and loved their beers, aptly named Muskoka Cottage Brewery. In fact I am drinking egg nog out of a Muskoka pilsner glass right now!
A bottle or two of Bud Light and Michelob light can usually be found in my fridge.
All time favorite rootbeer is A&W served on draft only, not the stuff in bottles or cans. Nuttin like it.

I was convinced for most of my adult life that I didn't like beer, but a few friends at church set out to prove me wrong. I cannot drink wine, I think that I am sensitive to the sulfides, it isn't fun.
I have found that I really enjoy wheat beer, pilsners, sweet stouts, and ales more than lagers. I really enjoy stouts, but not bitter. My current favorites are:
Stockyard Oatmeal Stout
Dunkelweizen
Bell's Best Brown Ale
Bell's White Winter Ale
Molson's
Kennebunkport Blueberry Ale (Wheat)

Yes, La Fin du Monde is 10% alcohol. My funniest story about it happened when we went our cycling tour of Quebec. We went with our good friends and drove up there 3 days before the tour started. We arrived around 4 PM, and Janine, who is a champion napper, decided to skip our exploratory walk around Old Quebec, to snooze. So, DH and I, and Brant ended up at an outdoor bistro and ordered La Fin du Monde. We warned Brant.... but, when he went to stand up, he just about fell over, he was so "happy." He decided to swear off of it for the rest of the trip, because he was afraid it would interfere with his cycling. But, he has had more safely at our house.

I'm not a big fan of wine, although there is a wineary near here that has fruit flavored wines that I really like. I prefer mixed drinks (specifically ones with rum) to anything else.

My DH did good! He completely surprised me with my Christmas gifts this morning. He had gone to a local beer shop and purchased several 6 packs of seasonal microbrews for me! He brought them down in a cooler (which I was forbidden from opening). I was VERY surprised but happy! I had also bought myself a 6-pack of Sam Adams blackberry wheat bear, so I have a great selection to sample during our holiday time here at the beach and will have plenty to take home too! :D

Ok, so i get a fry's gift card every year from work. I take the 25 dollars and it always goes towards purchasing and trying new ales.
This one beats all! Humbolt Ale: Made from Hemp! Ah a reason to drink ale, for the omega benefits! I love this!

Sorry for the stupid question, but whats the difference between beer and ale? I know theres Sam Adams and Guinness - but these are beers? Can you tell I'm not a real beer drinker. ;)

It has to do with how they are brewed and how the yeast is fermented. You can find a brief discussion here (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-beer-and-ale.htm) and here (http://www.realbeer.com/library/beerbreak/archives/beerbreak20001130.php).

I recently discovered Abita beer, Abita Springs, LA, and I think it's outstanding.
My favorites are the Purple Haze, Turbodog and Amber.

Well, I'm going to have to lay off the microbrews and winter ales for awhile. They're lovely but oh so high in calories/carbs. I finally got on the scale for the first time since before the holidays, and I've gained 4 lbs. I weigh the most that I've weighed in 9 years. So, back to Miller Lite for awhile. :(

Darn Emily I was going to suggest a beer you might be able to find. I had a beer by Magic Hat brewery out of Vermont it is Beer #9 - Not Quite Pale Ale. We bought some for our beer loving friends and we all detected a citrus taste almost like when you have a Blue Moon and they put an orange slice in it. But it wasn't necessarily oranges we tasted. My friend used to homebrew and thought maybe it was the type of hops they used? Anyway it was a nice smooth beer.

At the end of it all, my fave is always Guinness on tap. Mother's milk, I tell ya.
However...
oxie dokes, new fave (this week at least). I am currently sipping on:
Stone Ruination IPA
Stupid expensive, but you get etched glass on the bottle. Nice to acknowledge when you are tossing them in the recycling bin:p Yummy and flavorful for an IPA...seems to be a bit spicy in addition to the hops.
What she said. Super good stuff there.
Seems like the TE ladies have excellent taste in beer. It's nice to see the home brewing families sprinkled in there, too.

Awww, thanks Amanda! I'll be able to look for it eventually. I've still got three six-packs of various brews my DH got me for Christmas in the fridge, though, so it may be awhile before I'm ready for more. In the meantime until I lose the weight, it's Miller Lite time for me. Boriiiiiing. :(
