Need to know-email checking via cell, blackberry

Ok, am just curious now...for those of you who do have cellphones and Blackberrys that handle your email, how often do you really check it/use it on a daily basis? Maybe limit that to outside of working hrs.

I have a Blackberry and am totally addicted. Constantly checking to see if my little light is blinking for either an email or text. But I'm of the internet generation, so it seems totally natural to be "connected" at all times. As a matter of fact, last Friday the data on my phone wasn't working (internet and emails), and I felt completely lost, despite the fact I was at work in front of a computer:rolleyes:

When I'm traveling, I forward my email to my iPhone. Otherwise, it's faster to type on a computer.

I don't read email on mine, but I do frequently use text messages and and the organizer features. I spend a fair amount of time out of the office, and it's the easiest way for me to stay on top of things.

I don't even have a job, but I use mine constantly. It blinks all the time (mostly about Facebook and I haven't figured out how to turn that off).

I decided to get a BB because a co-volunteer of mine was always so available, just because he had it. It makes my to-do list so short, because I handle things as they come (most of the time. :p )

I'm required to have a BB for work. When I'm working or traveling for work I check it pretty frequently. Even if you turn off all the audible or vibrate alerts for emails, I haven't found a way to turn off the blinking red light when you get a new message, and it's pretty hard to ignore that.

On the other hand, I have absolutely no cell signal at my house or for miles around, so I can't check it there. Even though I work from home when I'm not out visiting customers, I have to say that's not such a bad thing. :)

Haha, I already have a rubber band holding the BB together as I've dropped it so many times.

I do want to see the red light sometimes, though...I'd like something I could turn on and off. ;)

Well, if you put a little piece on the light when you don't want to see it, and remove it when you do, you've got it made. I do that for my bike computer because I really dislike seeing the speed, but I want the stats at the end of the ride. I've also used a fabric bandaid.

You could also put a fat rubberband on that covers the light, since you already have rubberbands holding it together. Or a little piece of fabric under your existing rubberbands. That would be easier to remove and replace as needed.

To turn off the LED you go into Profiles (I usually just click on the little speaker in the upper right corner, where you set it to vibrate). Scroll down to Advanced Options... Scroll down to your usual default profile (I usually only use phone only, to it's already selected on mine). Click on it, scroll down to what you want to change, click, and pick what you want.

Note that if you don't change it on all profiles, it will blink when you're on vibrate or silent or whatever.

My iPhone is one of my best friends. If I don't have access to the computer, it IS the computer. Unless it is a long vacation and I really must work while gone, I never travel with my laptop anymore. The one thing I hope will change soon is more (legal) options for service/carriers. AT&T is fine in a lot of ways, but there are too many dead zones in NM and rural Colorado, where I spend a lot of time.

Yep, ATT is quite spotty here, too. Once Verizon gets the go-ahead for the iphone, I'm switching.
