I'm starting another week off...

So, this weekend we were up in the Adirondacks and did two very long hikes, one of which we ran 4 miles of! On Saturday we hiked from ADK Loj to Mt. Marcy, hiking 7 miles up at a good clip (we left at 6 and summited at 9:40) and decided that we felt good enough to run down part of the way. It was a really exhilerating run and of course we passed about 200 people coming up as we went down. It took us 2 hours and ten minutes to get down - a combination of running, rock hopping, scrambling, and walking. It was very primal and now my husband is hooked on trail running. Yay!

Sunday we were both hobbled to some extent so decided to do a recovery hike and hiked 5 miles out Indian Pass, relatively flat - and returned the same route for a total of 10 miles. Although we did not run, I am glad we hiked Sunday because it gave the muscles some memory (or something - because I am not sore today.)

Yesterday was off - drove home.

Today I rode in and back commuting so will not run again til tomorrow.

I ran today for the first time in 7 weeks. It was the first day of my internship and while I got home early enough to ride, it would have been a short ride, by the time I got ready.
I played it safe, though, because while my hip is better, it's still not perfect. But, it's cooler out and I miss running. I did my 3.2 mile route, walking for the first 1/3 mile and then doing run-walk intervals for about two miles; my Garmin was dead, so I don't have accurate numbers, here, but I think my intervals were about 3-6 minutes of running with 45-90 seconds of walking. I ran up one small hill (one I usually ride at 11-12 mph in the middle ring) and the first part of the hill on my street, which is steeper. I walked for about the last 1/4-1/3 of a mile, a little more than usual.
I am glad the Garmin was broken, since I was slow, but I don't care. It's not back to square one, but I think I am going to forget about speed for awhile, because that's when I got hurt.

Ran roughly 11miles of trail over the course of the wknd. I have learned that stony trails can be a bit rough in the VFF's. Hit a few pretty hard. Good runs though, with beautiful scenery along lake superior. I ran from marina to marina. It was great! :D

Now, tomorrow is 9/9/09 so in celebration my running buddy and I are going to run 9miles. Who's in?

I'm finally over my cold and the exhaustion of three consecutive weekends "out" (albeit this past weekend we slept in our own bed, but spent 10 hours a day/night at a music festival down the road).

Tuesday's normally a riding day, but we mutually blew it off on account of the weather (heavy fog and a chance of rain).

So I went for an easy 5.5 after visibility improved, instead.

Hmmmm, 9 miles tomorrow? mebbe...

Ran last night about 6-ish. It is still SUMMER here in Florida. So it was upper 80's (at least) and sunny. So it was hot. Still just doing the short runs. Speed is not really increasing yet (partially d/t heat). But this is post-tri so I am in the interim of getting miles and speed up a bit befor official marathon TP starts. Did 3 miles.

Got up before crack of dawn. A bit cooler and no sun. Did 3.4 miles. Didn't pay attention to pace. Just logging miles.

I never really enjoy the short runs, much less in this heat. But logging the miles away. Body feels ok. Need to stretch more.

The rocky trails in VFFs can be rough--they are a great way to work on form because the instant you get sloppy you will feel it! Trail running in them is also great for developing agility since you have to dodge a lot of rocks and roots and be more careful where you put your feet than in padded shoes. As for running 9 miles on 09/09/09, I won't be joining in--today will be a biking day since I have some things to do around town. Tomorrow I have to go into Boston to meet with my advisor at school, and I may run instead of walking between the train station and the school.

I've bruised the ball of my foot twice running in shoes on my lane. The last time we had stone put down, one of the neighbors we share the lane with arranged it, and got a larger gauge (?) of stone than we normally do. Still, it's no bigger than what they lay on a lot of the roads I run on.

I ran 8 yesterday. I am 2.5 weeks out from my next HIM and I am training on a thin line with my hip. I know that it is fatigued, so I am trying to really pay attention to form and not push it beyond its abilities. I am also trying to stay really really positive about my healing and training!!! Wow this has snuck up on me (which is why I have a coach, so that even if it has snuck up on me, he has had me put in the time/mile/yards) :p Happy running. I will not be in on 9 today (though i will tomorrow!). Enjoy it!

I have no time.

Did a 12 minute run this morning.

Worked until 1 AM and was up at 5:45 AM. Oh how I miss running. Hopefully things will slow down. Never thought I would miss 10 mile runs . . . . .

Ran 2.75 miles at lunch, 24 minutes.

It is definitely not easy to get out for a run at lunch and I should never, ever, procastinate in the a.m. thinking, "oh I'll just run at lunch." It's much better to run BEFORE work!

Ran five miles this morning with a long downhill and a long uphill. Right knee is kinkish. It took me 52 minutes.

Very little running for me this week. 50 minutes Moday and 35 yesterday. I'm in taper for my first ever 24 hour time trial, which starts at 6:43 am on Saturday.

I'll get back on my 1/2 marathon training plan next week, once I'm able to move my legs again. ;)

3 miles again last night, ditched spin class to jog at park. Days are getting shorter, don't like to jog at park when it's dark. On the bright side, maybe I will get faster as the weather gets cooler :)

yeah, I am hoping for a bit more speed and that 3 miles does not feel like h*ll when it gets colder. Leave next Thursday for CT...looking forward to those cool runs.

Slept in, did not run. Legs sore/stiff from working out w/ trainer yesterday. I'll run tonight!:p

Seriously... A fierce-looking calico cat came flying out of nowhere and chased me a for a bit, growling and hissing. I've had encounters with dogs, but cats? I'm guessing she must have had kittens nearby that she was protecting...

Anyhow, it was a very pleasant 4.5 miles, with a little sprint at about 2.25 miles in!

Yesterday's run was really four separate short ones--I ran from my house to the commuter rail station, got on the train to Boston, then ran from South Station to my meeting with my advisor at school, and did the same on the way back as well (although a lot of the return trip ended up being walking). I don't know what it is about roads and sidewalks, but I could tell that my form was off during a lot of it.

I've had a great week this week. I incorporated intervals on Wednesday, using a plan I found on Runner's World. It was fun! I also upped my distance a bit today, from 3 k to 3.5 k. And I get to cycle tomorrow. Good week.

I did an hour trail run yesterday. I'm into the last 2 weeks before my race, so I'm keeping the runs at a max of an hour.

I did a 5K race this morning and did my best time so far! 26:40. I am very proud of myself! :p It was meaningful to me as this is my five year anniversary of quitting drinking, too. So I'm pretty psyched! I came in 11th for my age group. Sweet!

Yay! I'm proud of you, too! Can you believe you are the same person? It's like you swapped bodies with some amazing athlete!

Focusing on the bike for the next couple of weeks... running's on the back burner, but definitely need to get at least a short one tomorrow.

Good job Indigo! As for me, I did my half-hour run around the neighborhood--barefoot. No VFFs today. Surfaces included mostly asphalt, a couple short areas of dirt/gravel, and grass; everything was wet since it's been raining today. It was pretty good and got me into a good mood to start my shift at work (unfortunately the good mood didn't last long--I had to listen to this one lady yelling and screaming almost the whole afternoon/evening and now I have a headache!!).

I did hill intervals out at the reservoir yesterday. 3 miles with 830 feet of climbing.

Hill intervals! Sounds painful!
Yesterday I didn't run because I went to a Beginner's mountain bike clinic (it was okay.) Today I am running 8 miles home from my bus on mostly trail and dirt road. It will be my longest run so far... I plan on not being disappointed if I have to walk some sections (yeah... cuz of gravel! Or loose sand! Yeah!)

Now this is weird-- twice in three days there was a murder at a house I had run past earlier that day. Different routes, different parts of town... Both were low-crime neighborhoods, in one the suspect is an ex-boyfriend and in the other an ex-tenant. I'm sure it's all just coincidence, but still...

Today was my usual Monday run, 3.5 miles, and I did it in one minute less than last week. And I hope I'm not hearing about any murders in that neighborhood on the news tonight (but there was one yesterday within eyesight of today's route)....
