I just turned 45 and my 16 year old daughter was joking that I'm due for a mid-life crisis. Then she said, "Knowing you, you'd get a really cool bike instead of a hot car." So I started thinking about what bike I would get if money were no object.
So, what would your dream bike be? I'm still dreaming and need ideas.

one word: CUSTOM
:D:D:cool::D:cool::D:cool:
that's what i did; I'm still driving a 1991 car, my bike is worth more than my car.

I recently got my dream bike -- a Colnago Master X-light. A lightweight steel beauty!

Custom fitted Waterford RS-33 with Campy Chorus painted mid-life crisis magenta....oh wait, I have one of those :D
Lovely machine. Worth every penny. Nothing like a custom fit go-fast bike even if you don't go fast to bring out the kid in you.
Best present I ever bought myself....well, except maybe for its little sister, a RS-14 Waterford with S&S couplers--pure decadence to have a nice fitting bike while on vacation. Guess mid-life crisis hit twice

. . . Guess mid-life crisis hit twice :eek:Me, too!
Custom Spectrum Super Ti a couple years ago.
Last year was a custom powdercoated Titus Motolite to match the pink rims I scored on ebay a couple years back.
My garage is filled with wonderful bikes. Now, if I could just get hubby to get his Co-motion built so I could get my Soma on the stand and built.

I've got a few I'd like to have:
Calfee Custom Bamboo
http://www.calfeedesign.com/images/bamboosmall.jpg
Serotta Custom Meivici
http://www.serotta.com/meivici_ae/index.html#
Vanilla Custom Steel
http://www.vanillabicycles.com/frames/road/3/lrg/1.jpg
And of course Custom Ti to round out the materials (not sure on the builder for that though :( ).
AND THEN there's the non-roadies:
Waltworks Custom Steel Mountain (yes, I'd probably go single and rigid or I might have him make me a cross bike)
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MF8C0O2KtKo/Rjfr-ltUoTI/AAAAAAAAABU/0vPavYL9IoI/s1600/waltworksbike.jpg
And then there's the ones I own:
Wilier Izoard (not mine in image)

Yeti ASR

I would have to go with a custom Seven Diamas; all carbon and chock full of high end components.
Custom painted, of course.

I don't know a lot of bikes. I don't know most of what you have here. I don't have a lot of mechanical or understanding of bikes (what is best, etc).
But I drool (yes I do drool) over the Pinarello's. (had to even look up the spelling--what a loser I am!)
Not sure I could get one to fit me (at 4' 10") so a custom one would make may heart sing!

My dream bike would be an Indy Fab Club Racer in Ti with S&S couplers. I can dream, right?
Now, if I could just get hubby to get his Co-motion built so I could get my Soma on the stand and built.
SK - Which Soma? My DH is still pondering a double cross or a Smoothie ES (or maybe a Speedster/Stanyan).

All high end bikes are sooo good. How could we choose?
Paint scheme? love the paint scheme, design and color on Colnago for production bike. for a custom pain job I would love to have my bike painted in pearlescent white fading to parlescent red or pearlescent pastel light blue. I'm fond of sparkly paint job. Not too much just a tiny bit.
Frame material: I'm still partial to Ti frame just because... I really loved my Litespeed. And steel. I'm not really sold on carbon.
My dream bike?? Tire that is super grippy and never wearout. Chain that never falls off or snap. A shifter that is quick responsive and run forever. Self cleaning would be nice too. A bike that will maintain and clean itself. :D :D :D Is it too much to ask?

Nope, I'm fine, thanks.

A road bike that could transform to a mountain bike at that impulsive moment when you want to cut down a path out of traffic, and that never fell over, or didn't attract trucks or squirrels, that made my butt look smaller, and told me over and over that I was beautiful.

Heh - I'm putting my custom 'mid-life crisis' dream bike on hold for another year, but it'll be a custom Luna fast commuter bike...probably an Orbit, when I'm ready. If I didn't have to think about parking it on a bike rack or it getting stolen - it would be all Ultegra with a rockin' red/purple paint job....but I'm still working out the details in my head. ;)
This will sit nicely next to my Terry Isis Ti that already holds a place of honor and love in my stable. :)

But I drool (yes I do drool) over the Pinarello's
I do too. Luckily I don't see too many people riding them because whenever I do, I pretty much stop looking at the road because I'm ogling the bike.
My current dream bike is their 2010 dogma:

A Luna Orbit in white/green. :)
And this, with SRAM components: (it is a small pick but it is a Blue RC8WB... I want red though)
http://www.rideblue.com/images/120x69_rc8wb_profile_blue.jpg
That is all for now, but eventually I'll add a tri bike to that list.

Surly Big Dummy with custom paint job, full Xtracycle passenger package, my bars and saddle and pedals, and a Stokemonkey. http://cleverchimp.com/
Oh, and while I'm dreaming I'd like a down-low-glow http://rockthebike.com/lights/downlowglow, and monkeylectric lights on both wheels http://www.monkeylectric.com/

Another one who dreams of a Calfee Bamboo....with Campy....
A Serotta Ottrott is up there, too, though I'd like a full Ti bike, so a Serotta Legend Ti with S&S couplers and a nice travel case and an unlimited supply of frequent flyer miles sounds pretty good.
And another custom steel, can't yet say what style frame, from one of the small craft builders...what's not to like?
I've got a few years to hit that mid-life crisis you're talking about...I've been meaning to start a specific next bike savings fund, this might put me over the edge!

Oooh, Good one. I'd probably go custom too, unless I found a really cool vintage bike to restore. Not sure which name brand or kind yet. Jenn

Thanks Ladies!! I'm drooling over some of these bikes!!
Reality did hit today, though, as I was doing a tour of some of the North Carolina universities with my daughter. If she manages to get in to Duke, it would be incredible and the school so good for her, but man, 50k a year? Ouch!! Guess my dream bike waits 5 years. But it's fun to dream!

You could get on the waitlist for a really sweet custom bike and it would be ready in 5 years ;) Vanilla Bicycles has about a 3 year wait :D ;)

Ah - you're in my neck of the woods. Let me know if you have Duke questions - I graduated from Duke, and am still in very close contact.

I think I'd be freaking out about dinging something like that so much that I'd never ride it..... my dream bike.... how about the one I have but about 3 lbs lighter...

Ha... that was my final thought right as the Diva sold out and I got my Onix Orbea. All I could think was... OHHH... I don't think I could ride it to do xyz... what if I crash it?!?!
Not that I'd be real happy crashing the Onix by any means. But, I just said that to my riding partner on a recent club event. Beautiful new carbon bike... x2 $ mine. Poured rain whole event day...
Ummm... did ya buy the bike to ride it? Or to have it be a show piece?
I vote ride! If something is so purdy you can't play with it... is it really worth having?
And "yes" I know that's what a back up bike is good for... but one bike at a time:rolleyes:...

I have to agree -- Vanilla's are reeeally nice.
After losing my 2005 Fuji Euro Pro carbon off the roof rack in late April this year (oh! the heartache!), my insurance company came through with enough replacement value dollars for me to get my dream bike (pinch me!!): An Eddy Merckx EMX3 carbon, full Campy Super Record. I've tried to think of names, but the only one I can really call it is just "Eddy." After getting over the fact that The Man was standing a mere 3 feet from me, I saw Eddy with a prototype EMX3 on an celebrity charity ride in 2006 and have lusted after it ever since. Hard to believe I actually own one now. :)

I also know a bit about the cycling team there, though I wasn't on it as a student (I rode horses instead).

Very nice bike! Similar color combo to my Merckx Fuga. We're like fraternal twins. ;) I haven't seen another bike I'd want as much as my dreamy bike, but I'd love to give yours a try. :D Ahhh, better not though. She might get jealous.
My bf's Merckx is also named Eddy (as is my cat).
